Buy a gallon of scrumpy cider.

    Drink some.

Put the gin-soaked sloes in cider.

Leave for a few days somewhere cool but check for a build up of pressure and release as required.

Drink the ‘slider’ you made and enjoy it lots.

    Fall over and sleeeeeeep.

I don’t do SS – I have gears and a ‘king big bike that needs more riding. 29er and 23″ frames are niche enough for me.

I like the sound of this, but I think I want to ride the monster truck bike and that has gears.

Swede – I have heard about you.

Nearly took out some achingly cool unlit fixie in the middle of Bristol the other night. He took umbrage at my language and hand signals.

Obviously not. But don’t let that stop you making ridiculous assumptions.

When someone who claims some sort of expertise on a subject gets upset when someone evidently ignorant of the subject uses the wrong language, I see pettiness. When I see internet class warriors wading in, I’ll certainly bow to your superiority in that field.

Everyone should be aware of H&S etc. However, somewhere like McD’s can have a 200% PA staff turnover. Therefore, their training will concentrate on flipping burgers and safely using fryers, rather than on the nuances of Risk Assessments and their relation to H&S and the law.

I’ll glady do what I’m told when it makes sense, but I’m a safety rep in one of the most dangerous industries in the UK and I know more than a bit about it, it has to be said!

Yet you appear to suffer from Small Angry Petty Man Syndrome? You get annoyed because someone doesn’t understand the specifics and nuances of a subject in which you are a SME. If everyone had your in depth knowledge, you’d not be so frikkin important and we’d not need safety reps. Rocket scientists work on rockets, not in the convenience food industry. Get over yourself princess.

buy your local OS map – loads of detail. £16 gets you a custom map with your house in the middle if you want. Then use ‘wheresthepath’ and explore possibilities. I love exploring far more than following a route.

I loved the fact he had wanted to do this for so long and finally did, and it worked. It had plenty space, was flexible and wasn’t to everyone’s taste – which is fine. It was nice to see a bloke achieve his dream rather than some poncy architect producing his ‘masterpiece’ or some rich idiot throwing money at an ugly building and using the show to demonstrate their wealth.

So you either follow a bad example or set a good one.

I guess it depends on whether you want to be a good parent or not.

Or does your daughter believe that ‘whinging on STW’ is a valid option in these circumstances?

    Just asking like.

Do people listen to music while snowboarding to make them think they are in a video? I never felt the urge to listen to music while boarding – and still don’t when riding a bike. Isn’t the real world enough without augmentation?

You’ve bought Flows – why not do what the maker recommends with them – tape and a valve? Lighter, designed for it and works REALLY easily. I find it hard to believe you’d spend that on some wheels only to drill them because you bought the wrong rim strip and want to fit them to wheels that don’t need it? Put the strips on Classifieds and get the proper valve and tape.

Just read in more depth – it seems a designer mongrel is a bad thing, yet an inbred (and not an on-one) is fine…

Erm….nope. Mixing breeds then hoping the outcome is a good pet has lots of risks. Single breeds have known traits, both good and bad, but both parents have the same traits – therefore you have more chance of knowing how the offspring will behave.

its been going on with great success with lurchers for hundreds of years.

You mean ‘breeding with an aim’ and knowing what traits you want out of it? Yes – working dogs tend to have that background. The current fad doesn’t and has no discernable output other than a new ‘revenue stream’ for breeders.

You seem to have swallowed the kennel club propaganda hook line and sinker.

Nope – real world experiences. I despise most of the ‘pedigree’ standards established and run by the KC – they need taking apart and putting back together. I hate what breed standards has done to bassets and other dogs. This post is to do with mixing breeds with known traits through uncontrolled breeding rather than anything else.

Nobody else can see the faults you ‘made’. You did the work so you see the faults that nobody else does. Learn to live with them.
Break it down into work areas, prioritise, then actively DON’T do the ones lower down the list and concentrate on the priorities. You’re trying to do all of it together. Get together with Mrs hora and make that list.
Don’t fret about the floorboards. Rugs are cool.
I know where you are – did 2 houses in my past and know the self-imposed stress it brings. You do need to ride your bike as well – even if just for an hour.

It’s safer and more sensible than relying on the supposed good nature of a rescue dog in our minds..

Nope – still a mongrel with the same issues – uncontrolled cross-breeding that gives as much chance for the worst traits of both breeds coming out as the good traits. I’ve not seen one yet that I’ve thought ‘best of both’. Getting a puppy is the same risk as getting a mongrel puppy.

Rent a machine – they work really well and a Vax isn’t a patch on something industrial. Just plan your furniture moves and not having animals / families trying to use the rooms while they dry.

    TooTall

Middle class mongrels. Just as much chance of getting the worst of both breeds as any of the good points. Pointless, especially when there are other mongrels out there needing love without the designer tag and price.

    I’ll review the t-shirts:

OK but shrink more vertically than horizontally, thus giving the appearance you have stolen the t-shirt from a shorter but wide man and gives improper coverage at the trouser interface.

Also – the 29er one is just a grim design – but that is IMHO whereas the other point about shrinkage happened.

I only ask as my LBS slimed a tube in a 10″ pram wheel at the weekend – at the request of the pram owner. It was so lumpy and wobbly when he spun it I’d never have that myself in such a big wheel.

    teagirl is right.

riding a bike is a recce to find sloes. Get em picked.

Try some vanilla in there too.

Cheapest gin possible that is full strength. Sainsburys basic current cheapest. ANYTHING better is a waste.

they are not as much fun on really rough terrain.

    Wrong bike then.

Some people seem to think I have to justify it. My only justification is ‘that is a 23″ frame and it is so in proportion, you didn’t even know it was a 29er’. 😮

I went and had a chat with the guy at BikeScience in Bristol the other week. Being off the scale, I want a fit session so I know what I should be looking at when I do go for a custom bike – and yes, a dark side one too. He was very good and setting up for another cyclist to do to the full analysis, which I believe is 3D so covers all movement.
Regardless of all of this, KamiKirk is right – this might come from many other areas other than your knee or foot. Nothing you have mentioned tells me you have seen (for example), a physio who has a particular focus on cyclists. This might pay off better than a fit session.

Piazza Garibaldi isn’t somewhere I’d hang about

any time, day or night. I was the ‘mugging deterrent’ for my mates when I lived in Naples. Stabbings happen all the time there – worse when the local kids have the chance to increase their violence/street cred quota on people who aren’t connected to another violent local family.

Fresh coffee, less than two weeks from roasting. Ground within a few minutes of using. Good quality beans. Anything else, in my experience will not produce fine espresso.

There are so few people in the world who could distinguish those subtleties that they never need to go there. Not one of the places I drank coffee in Italy was that fussed about the age of the coffee before grinding – yet they produced the best coffee. Not everyone could get the best out of Steve Peat’s bike, so they don’t need Steve Peat’s bike.

Besides which, in the spirit of ‘Everybody Counts’ all employees should be allowed to make a valuable contribution to the organisation as everybody has their own special qualities

Agreed. All MBTI does is draw out those qualities so everyone else can understand them and, if possible, make best use of them within a team. I’ve had it used on me several times and it has helped the team understand each other better and who has what aptitudes for certain tasks.
