We are adding to the skills areas but no blue or green trails for the quarry as its not really suited to that level of riding the exposed nature of the quarry and the climb up in to it put it beyond what we would be happy grading blue or green before we even start.

New signage will be coming soon we did have emergency contact information and location signs dotted around the quarry but the design was not up to the job and they keep breaking. New and improved designs to come soon!

Re flagged out and walked through some of the proposed new sections with Rowan today some great ideas are coming together for more big berms, drop offs and what should be an excellent technical rocky climb.

If its on a PROW they need permission from the highway authority and unless there are stock issues it is unlikely they will get it. So worth checking with the rights of way team as the work might be being carried out by another bit of the council who don't know this. If it is simply to stop motorbikes they could be challenged using the disability discrimination act also if the route is legit for cycling challenge them as it will be virtually impossible to get a bike with a child seat or trailer through.

We have been offered some money now, still a bit of sorting out to do with the match funding etc but it is looking promising.

Planning applications going in for link from Lee Quarry over to Rooley Moor Road and some purpose built trails in Cragg in the next few days.

List for Lee Quarry so far is a skills area with a pump track, sections to learn how to ride jumps, berms, drop offs safely and with progression. A new black graded section and a new section of red graded xc route. (hoping to get this all built this financial year. Oh and proper signage at last.

Link over the moors to be built next year (after bird breeding season) assuming we get planning permissions etc.

Any one know who crashed and where? I'm keen to keep track of where people are crashing so that I can have a good look at the spot and to try and figure out whats going wrong and see if anything needs changing. Some times it just happens but I always want to try and make sure the trail is not at fault. Difficult with such a wide range of riders and abilities using the site to keep everyone safe.

Who ever did crash if you are reading this hope you heal soon.

Got some more money to spend on trails in the quarry so any ideas as to what new features you would like to see up there? (can't promise we will build them but if you don't ask!)

I went very well there was some excellent feedback and we have decided to run it again next year 3rd 4th July. Entries are available through the Singletrack shop now. There will be a 300 rider limit so worth getting a ticket early. Small but fun two day event, camping in the quarry and a good variety of riders. Also we shall have some new trails built in the quarry by then so more big berms etc!

By this time next year you should be able to ride from Lee Quarry to Gisburn prety much all off road. Then you can do both in the same day as part of a 70mile challenge ride!

Working on an offroad route between Gisburn and Lee Quarry Pennine BW will soon go as far as Paythorne a few linking bits to do but it should make a good challenge ride!

Never worked for FC but spent most of my life as a ranger/countryside worker. Have a look at Naturenet for general advice on this line of work. Get some voluntary experience, BTCV, wildlife trust etc expect to be poor but happy!

Clockwise makes it all ridable (although I have never managed the climb up to Summit) Start from Healey Dell get Rooley Moor road out of the way early on, then section with lots of gates while still fresh.

Anticlockwise will result in a few unridable uphills for all but the most talented/fit

Access on a SSSI shouldn't be a problem, depends on the reason for designation of course. Lee Quarry isa SSSI and we have built trails there and just had the weekender there all with the OK of Natural England.

If you have been using the route for over 20years you can probably claim it. Check with your local PROW officer.

Never heard of a ticket being given out like this before, we normally just ask people to leave if they are in the wrong place and put plenty of signage up.

I did chat with them about off road training and I think they would like to do some. I’ll send you contact details tomorrow. Thanks again for your little guiding session this afternoon, made the kid very happy and I’m sure didn’t do us any harm with his father. More trails!

Entries are going pretty well really I think we are past the break even stage which is good news for the local mountain rescue as we will be passing any surplus on to them.

Food and drink (none alcoholic) will be provided for anyone helping out at the event I’ll have some vouchers to hand out so if you are helping make sure you get some from me.

We have a good pile of wood for a fire each evening. (don’t tell the health and safety guys!)

There is a round of the National Trials Championships in the quarry on the Sunday, some of the UK’s best trials riders (annoyingly young and talented!) will be in the quarry over the weekend. Well worth watching what they can do. I suspect they may find our version of trials amusing.

The weather forecast for the weekend is looking good at the moment.

Camping on site up in the quarry, bit of a drag up the hill with your gear as we are not allowing cars on site (they would break). car park has 24hr security. We will have a 4×4 with trailer to take stuff up and down the hill if required. Camp site is rocky so bring a good thermarest and some extra pegs (you might bend a few)

Midges were out in force last night so some insect repellent would be a good idea shouldn’t be a problem around the camp fire though.

Any one got any questions about the event just let me know.

Do you mean the red brick road that goes up through landgate and moss quarries? It takes you on to the old limersgate bridleway that runs past Brown Wardle Hill up to Deerplay. You can then either follow the bw over Deerplay and join the Pennine Bridleway and drop in to Cliviger Gorge or straight on down in to the gorge and a big climb out up to Long causway. I could do you a quick map at work tomorrow.

Lee There will be quite a few of us up in the quarry next tuesday (including the singletrack guys)evening from about 5 through to 9pm sorting things out for the weekender. Should be lots of willing volunteers for some video.

Lee that works really well, I would be interested in seeing if we could get some hotspots with some video of people riding the trails.

I have plans to develop the trails further (put together for us by Rowan Sorrell), specifically more skills development areas in Lee Quarry, with a range of drop offs from small to large, jumps from small to large more balance stuff, pump track etc

Also a link out accross the moors to Rooley Moor road and then some singletrack in Cragg Quarry (big berms and rollercoaster style features). Link over to Facit Quarry (down through the woods)and up through Landgate to Brown Wardle Hill. I have a couple of funding bids in at the moment if sucessful we should be building some more stuff this year.

We need to demonstrate support for the site/concept stuff like the Brownbacks race series and Singletrack event are good for this. Sign up for the Singletrack Event and help us develop the site further!

What add should also mention is that although it is voluntary expenses etc are paid so it brings in a bit of beer/bits for the bike money. We will also provide navigation training and arrange SMBL skills training and out door first aid training.Good way of getting experience if you want a job as a ranger or mtb guide.

We have had a few attempts to get that route upgraded to bridleway. Might be possible to make a claim if there is enough user evidence going back far enough.

Simon I seem to remember it was a bit grim, new bits are good Rowan def knows his stuff Big berms and some nice jumps. Forecast for tuesday isn’t great at the moment but what do the weather men know?

Ed I meant to ask how the skills trianing was going? I could do with booking myself in on a couple of your sessions!

No boardwalk at Lee Quarry due to its maintenance requirements, also it is just not needed. Although I have got my eye on some long thin rock slabs that might get turned in to a test of balance. I think we already have a bit of a rocky north shore thing going on there it is just low to the ground.

We do have plans for developing the skills area more jumps of various sizes

We did import some stone for some of the build it came from Britannia Quarries which is as the crow flies less than 300m from Lee Quarry so I’m pretty sure that counts as local! We needed some aggregate and Aggregates Industries gave us some for free. Cheaper than getting a crusher in to Lee Quarry and making our own.
