This is an awesome thread already. Hope it gets to Tripster-esque proportions. So… what makes a bimble bike? Long ride comfort? Cake carrying capacity? Limited technology?

Normal Man – I have an Ogre with a 3×9 set up. Single speed Pugsley for beach bimbles. I use both with a Yepp mini seat up front with an 18 month old boy a lot of the time and they ride impeccably. I love Surlys so much I bought my wife a Krampus. She doesn’t ride much.

One more bimbler right here. My Surly weighs 30lbs and my food supply another 5 on top of that.

I buy rapha stuff (in the sales) for two main reasons – 1. They have an excellent warranty and have fixed stuff for me that is well over 2 years old 2. They also have a crash replacement policy. I’ve had stuff from Endura, Gore, Castelli which is also good but rapha stuff feels better made to me.

Furthermore, I’ve sold jerseys that I’ve used for a year or so for pretty much the price I’d paid originally. I think the stuff looks great, and I’m more than happy for small minded people to call me a **** just for wearing a particular brand. I just give them a wave and a smile and ride on.

Those steel Konas have proved to be great investments – and still look magnificent too.

Wzzzz- are you aware of a UK stockist for the Rock n Road tyres?

Loving the Konas! I’ve really regressed with my bikes and now ride a rigid steel 29er and a single speed fat bike. I’m sure a big part of this is because of the fun I had in my teens on my cheap rigid Saracen. There is something very liberating about riding rigid, albeit with modern touches like big wheels and disc brakes.

Hi all, great to see this thread alive still. I’m looking to replace the headset on my tripster but have been advised by a dealer the only replacement available is the FSA headset that the bike was supplied with. It seems a bit crazy that a mass produced bike only has one option in this regard, and I was rather hoping to get something blingy like a Chris king. Has anyone fitted a non fsa headset?

Thanks for the replies gents. Somafunk – from the photo it looks as though the easton seat clamp sits a little bit proud of the frame at the rear. Is there a gap underneath? I’m considering an Easton elite post with this clamp.

Also first ride today with the wtb cross wolf tyres. I am not a fan! Any recommendations on a more sleek tyre that can still handle bridleways?

Dear all – firstly thank you for this wonderful thread. After several weeks of reading I bit the bullet and ordered a built up Tripster from Freeborn (who were excellent). The bike is way too nice to stick with some of the cheap finishing kit provided so I’ve got a few questions for you if you wouldn’t mind:

    1. What seat posts are you running? I have read the previous posts about sizing / shims etc and am undecided to go for a titanium post or save the cash for other bits.

    2. My bike came with the new shimano 105 11 speed gearing. Compared to my previous road bikes (one with 105, one with tiagra) there doesn’t seem to be much of a definite ‘click’ when you change gear. It’s more of a soft nudge. Has anyone else experienced this?

    3. Will regular skewers fit the wheels or do the discs mean you need to run mtb skewers? I’ve got my eye on the salsa ti ones.

    4. I use a topeak dx tourer rack. Anyone on here use the same rack and if so what mudguards are you using?

    Any help appreciated!

Rode SDW from QE park to near Cocking today in the first part of a loop, and from Harting Down / Beacon Hill to Cocking area was absolutely minging. Really gloopy wet chalk adding about 5lb to my bike and sticking to my tyres. Nice to be out but very hard going.

That’s what I’m thinking…. The AM6 looks like a ridiculously good deal. Less than £1200 for a bike I could only dream of 5 years ago. My current bike is a 2008 orange p7 so I think regardless of head angle I’m going to find it a lot more fun going down hills.
