I fancy the Dave yates course but put off somewhat by the pics of previous builds, some of them look so out of proportion and oddly sized that they must be sized wrongly

Surely part of the attraction for some is building a bike that fits there weird dispropotioned bodies, that they can’t buy bikes from traditional bike companies.

Yes I will be doing my first Audax at some point this year. Looking to do a few of the local 100 and 200Ks.

Looks like a good bike for the money, a quick google search and I can see them for £650, At that price it looks like a steal. Good starting point for a new rider. Plenty of opportunity for future upgrades, although it will do most riders until the parts wear out.

You mean the 1×1 with the 24″ wheels?
I have a 1×1, had it for about 4 years and love it. Great bike, does everything and is as hard as nails…

    Rachel,

You must be fairly local to me then. Although I fall in to the West Norfolk Constiuency. Good to know that some MP’s wil take the time to reply. I have had no answer from mine.

On another note where do you ride around your bit of Norfolk? Any good trail suggestions appreciated.

Your best bet with Thetford is to link up the marked trails. There is a lot of off piste as cannondaleking points out, but you could spend a lot of time pootling around the fire roads with out some guidence. I am a member of Timber and they are the best guys to get involved with. Go on the forum for a list of rides or post that you need a guide and someone will help out.

No more than an hour build and an hour tuning the radio, drinking the wine and trying to find the copper grease.

Riding fixed will improve your general skills as you’ll have to nail every line to maintain your pedalling. You pedalling will become more fluant and you’ll be much stronger. Just ignore what the STW crew say and give it a go it may well work out for you…

I have never been in a stand up fight as an adult and now I am 31 and a father I guess I never wil be.
I have been punched a few times and head butted once, but have just walked away with no other injuries and I have punched a few people, but made sure that that wil be all that needs to happen. I guess, being 6’3, 18 stone skin head may have something to do with it.

I did one night after leaving University beat up 20 kids in one go. No joke!
I was on the last bus home from town (Cambridge, not known for its trouble) and I was to say the least a little drunk. A kid got off the bus at the same stop as me and started walking the same direction as me a few paces ahead.
Next thing someone behind me shouts ‘there he is! Get him’. I panic thinking I am about to get a kicking.
The kid in front starts running for his life as a big group of chavs run past me. In my drunken state I decide this isn’t fair and think I should go even things up (why there are loads of them?).. I give chase and as I round a corner there they are kicking the bejesus out of the kid. The first thing I see is a large yellow traffic cone that I pick up and swing above my head. I run at the kids and **** about 6 of them aroiund the head with. I then throw the cone at a couple of them that are starting to leg it away.
Now with no weapon (this I don’t remember, but I am told) I tear open my shirt and give out a primal scream like a drunken mad man. I then start windmilling my fists like a loon, with the occasional fist making contact with the chavs. I pick the battered and bloody kid off the floor and start to run with him under my arm, like a rugby ball (Always been a handy number 8 or second row, so its second nature). I drop him out side his house where his parents have witnessed the whole thing. I button up whats left of my shirt and walk home.
I passed out on the sofa and was woken at 8am the next morning by my Dad and another police officer who are looking for witnesses to a fight that occured down our street last night. At this point I have absolutley no recolection of it. They (the police) have 15 reports of assult by one man on a local gang.
My Dad and his colleague were laughing so hard nothing ever came of it. I get a knowing wink from the kids Mum when ever I go back to my parents and I have bumped in to the kid a few times who is always quick to buy me a beer and thank me. To this day I have vague recollections of it, the rest is pieced together from the police report and what the kid has told me, but I can’t beleive it really happened as I would never put myslef in such a situation normally.

I only ride SS. I don’t think I am cool or crazy. I just cannot be arsed with fettling with gears all of the time. I worked in the cycle trade for to long and got fed up with fixing everybody elses gears to want to sort mine for riding.
SS will make you more fluant in your pedaling, rigid wil mean that you pick better lines. You’ll have fun just riding with out the worry of bike for conditions etc and what gear up this hill.
Give it a go. Try a few rides on your own first then join your mates and see if you can keep up.

Congratulations igm and family. Well done Mrs igm for being so chilled.
We had our first last Saturday after a 48 hour labour. Enjoy the next few weeks of watching them grow, best thing I have ever done.

Split it up and get better money. Parts on here first and other forums, then ebay what doesnt sell. I reckon you could get over £500 for it split.

Hurrah. After 48 hours at 10:35 this morning Baby Beatrix Elizabeth Middleton (8lbs 4oz) was born. A long and painful (for Max AKA Mrs Tommid) labour delivered our baby in to my arms.
I’m very tired, but very happy. I haven’t slept since Thursday. I am now in bed with a nice pint of Marston’s Old Empire and a big grin. Pictures to follow (of baby, not me in bed with my pint).
Thank you all for the messages. Oh and for all of those who told me not to, I did look down the business end and for someone quite squimish like me, it was actually amazing and I am glad that I did. I cut the cord as well.
    Amazing!!!
Always claimed I didn’nt want kids, but I am very smitten with my beautiful daughter.

Carbon337 we are 7 days off the due date.

So 8 hours in and contractions are about five minutes apart and still mild. Still a way off yet. Who will be up and on the forum at about 4-5am (maybe wishful thinking) when I get home and decide to wet the babies head???
