For the Cash I would get an old Steel MTB and some new tyres, rack and Mudguards from Ebay. Wrap the frame in old inner tube for that grundgy messenger look and no one will touch it and it wont get damaged when get locked up.

Really hard to climb on them, so it would be a bit rubbish, unless it was flat or downhill. Also they don’t handle well, so techy trails would be lethal.

Salsa Bell laps, Not as flared as woodchippers etc, but a nice wide bar with some flare. I have a set of 46cm on my CX bike and they are great. I have them in 26.0, but i dont think they do 25.4.

No pointelss, it was a fantastic excuse for me to drink, play rugby, cycle and sleep with as many girls as possible.
My work is completly unrelated to my degree and does not require a degree. I have got on well in a professional environment due to my personality, character, work ethic and luck.
Unless you are going to university with a clear view of what you wish to do i.e Solicitor, then it is largely pointless, especially now with fees. But then again we can do with a few less Media Studies graduates, that feel society owes them a living.

Tommid- I went to …..Netherhall plus its 6th form and lived in Cherry Hinton when i grew up, if you guys go riding can I tag along ? (Im only just starting riding again so Im not that great! but more than willing)

You are more than welcome to join us at Thetford any time. We are fairly slow and more about enjoying it than racing around it.

I went to Netherhall sixth form too. 1995-1997.

    Hello Womble,

Fellow Cambs and Thetford rider here.
Where did you go to school in Cambridge, give us an idea of just how posh that English accent is??

A small group of us head to Thetford most weekends if you ever want to tag along.

When interviewing and being interviewed, I think a smart suit, not to flash, not some stupid shiny TopMan job, with thin lapels, just a plain blue, black or grey suit with plain shirt and tie. Nothing to bold, no cartoon ties or bright colours. Your shoes should be black leather and polished.
Will you be wearing the suit for work? If not then an M&S job will see you through the interview.

Sex lies and handle bar tape is a great book. So is Olympic Gangster.
Matt Seaton’s Escape artist is a good heart felt story of a cyclist as opposed to a biography of a pro.
I’ve read hundreds of cycling books over the past few years and my first recomendation is always French Revolutions by Tim Moore, but you’ve read that. Although not cycling related his other books are very good. Frost in my moustache and I believe in yesterday are both corkers.

Keep the Mojo, sell the other two. The Landshark is ugly… The Klein is fairly common and you’ll be able to buy another in a few years when you can afford it again.

I’m with Dave. Or I ride a set of 2.35 Intense tyres, can’t remember which ones though.

Is your Alpine a light green one? If so I think you over took me on Sunday morning. I was riding my CX bike around running 700x32c Conti Twisters. They worked nicely on all but the deep sand.

Shermer, I replied on the Troll thread with my thoughts. Love it. I have a 20″ I’m 6’3.
Not a light bike, but a bike to have confidence in. Bombproof and begging to be thrashed week in week out..

You are welcome to give it a try if you are local? Thetford or up in Cumbria in May.

Shermer, I have had a 1×1 for the last five years and it is great to ride. To be honest I find Surly’s a bit lonbg in the top tube, I have a 20″ 1×1 and a 58cm Cross Check and I wish I had an 18″ and 56cm, respectivly, but I manage with shorter stems and a good choice of bar.

I mix it up, running it rigid with 2.4 tyres and with a Reba 100mm Dual air and a set of 2.25s. A very capable bike, heavy, but then its a Surly and it will last for ever. Its a bike that just wants to be ridden anywhere and everywhere. I cannot recommend them highly enough, but it is not for the racer in you, more the long day in day out rides and the chance to switch to rack carrying urban cruiser.

10 Years SS on my MTBs. I have mechs on my cross/ all purpose bikes. I just cannot be doing with the constant replacing and fettling.
I will be buying an Alfine at some point though for an MTB.
SS isn’t about being weird for me its just about making things work.

My racing experience is vast, it usually involves coming in near the rear or crashing a lot.
I have raced DH, XC, SS, DS and Criteriums and TTs on the road.
First TT race I was so nervous I was shaking for the first mile. First XC race I went over the bars 4 times on the first lap and recorded a DNF with a set of bent and cracked bars, a broken set of forks and two buckled wheels.
I love racing, but I only race for enjoyment so I stick to SSUK and SSWC where racing is a dirty word.

We have a work pool car Prius and I have used it for several trips, both local and long distance and I love it. Great on the fuel on the motorway (£30 from Cambridge to Manchester to Norfolk to Cambridge 290 miles).
    Great drive lots of space.

If you are not fussed about the club, go for Fulham. Small friendly ground, cheaper than most of the other London Clubs, but a chance of some good football.
All you’ll need to do is call them up or book on the website. No need to join stupid clubs like you have to with Man UTD before you can even register interst for tickets.

Although I’d highly recommend visting Villa Park as ticket prices are still fairly cheap and you get to see the Mighty Villa….

Just be honest, hold your hands up and admit to being a tit. Tell them what you’ve told us that their friendship means a lot to you and the reasons why you’d pushed them away and the reasons you’d like to see them again. You have nothing to lose, except face and that is worthless in the real world.
