I got home after a particularly good ride yesterday. Had a bath, got changed slipped on my flip flops and went to the fridge in the shed to get a well deserved beer.
Stepped out of the shed and put my foot in a hole that my dog had dug and turned my ankle right over. Cue me sitting on the ground screming in agony. A quick trip to A&E and an xray later I have thankfuly not broken it, but do have a bad sprain.. Atleast three weeks off the bike. Bum!

    Mark and Meg,
I can't even begin to start understanding how either of you are feeling.
All I can say is be brave and stick together. The best of wishes to you both.

No offence glyn, but isnt this a bit of a I want a time trial bike to race on, but also to carry my shoping bags off of the tri bars, Will this work? sort of question. I think you know what you want and should just buy it and learn from your mistakes.
I think the answer is it will go up hill if you can pedal it that hard and yes you could ride the coast to coast on it, but it just wouldn't be that comfortable. A mate of mine rides a 13" frame jump bike with about two inches of seat post and still whips us around most rides. He just constantly moans about his back problems, his screwed up knees and his numb plums. Take from that what you will.

To all those that asked if I am sure. Yes I am. I have always prefered sprinters the Lion King was always my hero. Now Cav is quickly taking his crown.
Wiggins tends to act like a child when he doesnt get his own way and is in my opinion doing very little for the sport. Actually neither of them do that is what Sir Chris of Hoy is for. Cav has that road cycling flair that so few have that grit your teeth and charge for the line and only when you cross it or you land face first do you relent style (See Laurant Jalabert or Abdoujaparov for more examples).

Bradley Wiggins is an arrogant (insert expletives of your choice). He is not a great ambassador for the spoirt at all. Give me Cavandish any day…

Never had an issue with them. The standards are normally very high and the kit is fantastic.

Ok so I looked on CRC just now and they are all post mount and you need to buy the rotors and mounts sereartly.. So the price jumps up loads.. What a git. So the next question is where from?

I bought a pair of Sidi’s and from my first ride I had this issue. I sold them and bought a pair of shimanos, which have a wider shape and no more problems. It may be they are to tight try leaving the strap closest to your toe a bit loser and have a look at your cleat position if its to far back I find it hurts my arches and makes my toes numb.

Good Shout Handsomedog re the trailer as well. It had crossed my mind, bivvying would never mean the bear necessities again…

Mr O thanks for the shout on the tyres. I was thinking about just being able to bung the tyres from my cyclo cross on it, although the opportunity to run some bigger tyres and set it up as a 29er is very interesting.

Cheers Guys that has helped me with my fetish for the big bikes. I am now thinking a Ute may be the way forward on the cycle to work scheme. Anyone know if you can fit CX knobblies? I take it you can in terms of it being 700c, just want to be sure that you can clearance wise?
Big Dummy I had checked you photo stream on Flickr before. I am very jealous. I quite fancy getting rid of the car and going all out big dummy.

+ 1 for french revolutions or Blazing Saddles by Matt Rendall.

They are quite simply brilliant, they inspire confidence. Not a patch on Jones H bars, but a blooming good substitute. Great on technical sections and more comfortable on longer rides. A more natural feel. I had a set then decided that I would try the Jones H bars and I could never go back to a riser or a straight bar.

I have had one for about two years now. With the firm spring it is brilliant for eliminating those bumps that jar your back. Especially good on an SS when you spend more time in the saddle.

Awesome. Worth every penny. I am a strong believer in a baselayer in all weathers and I wear mine in all but the warmest weather. Slept in it at SSUK when it was cold and it did me proud. Also stioll doesnt smell even after 4 sweaty nights in a tent.

    Mike,
We’ll be there earlyish as well as we will want to get away from our Friday night Campsite and get on site and get set up early. I’m the 6’3 skin head with a beard and a white Surly 1×1. Although I’m not sure I will qualify foir the lonely hearts club as I will be with two others and a third arriving later that day.
Is it wrong that I am so excited about SSUK?

I’m going to head out on the Saturday with the big ride out on to the Moors. Should be good, especially the pub stops.
SSSTU I will drop in to High Rigg and Say Hi, You can’t miss me big with a beard and a White Surly 1×1.

Aaaaaah.. gotcha… and yes, that is me just behind you, but it took me a while to work out what the hell I was wearing as I don’t have any red tops with white cuffs… then I remembered it was the bandage I had on after my slight Dyfi excursion…

And this is really spooky, but that pic shows my race number as 37 back in ’06 and I’ve just checked, I’m number 37 again on the ’09 list on the website…

I’m kinda freaked out by that… especially as that’s how old I am…

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Funky Nick I was number 99 in 06 and I am number 33 this time… will I be number 11 next year? and number 3.666 the year after?

I have just spotted that number 98 for SSUK is Neil Ruddock. Will it be Neil “Razor” Ruddock the ex spurs, West Ham, Liverpool player and all round fat bloke?

Is any one else up on the Friday and if so where are you staying?

Miketually- I realised the iother day that we rode SSUK06 together or should I say we walked the first hill together. I have lost a bit of weight since then thank god.

    Funky Nick rode with us…

So I will look forward to seeing you guys there. A small group of us are coming from Cambridge, but it may be at different times so I may be a billy for a night.

I weight about 17St why would your weight be an issue in getting a SS?
I only ride SS and fixed (I Have been riding fixed for over 10 years before you all acuse me of being a Hipster). I think SS is better if you are a bigger more powerful rider. I often set the pace and have very rarely had any worries about keeping up with my geared mates.
I ride a Surly 1×1 which is built to last even with the bigger rider…

Don’t ride in jeans. Spend the cash on insect repellent instead.
