    Whippet. I’ve got two.

    Right size for your requirement.
    Fabulous temperament.
Different – not your standard breed.
    Hardly any moult.
Doesn’t want to go out in the wet and cold.
Doesn’t need shed loads of exercise at all, 20 minute blast of running couple of times a day.

Only problem is you’ll end up with another.

KevJ, andy Craig – thanks for links and info.

Flying Ox – yes I have been on an aeroplane and have a working knowledge of aerodynamics. I am an airline pilot.

    CAADX disc with Tiagra.

    Cost just less than 1K.

Got nothing to compare it with because I’ve never ridden anything remotely roady before. I did some bridle paths with it last year with 35mm treaded tyres which it coped with fine but it’s had 28mm Gatorskins on for the last 6 months, been doing 60-80 miles a week, no problems whatsoever. Smashed some potholes, fallen off a couple of times and not broke it! Fits mudguards.

But if we estimate a weight we could work out how much downforce is required and therefore if it’s feasible?

I looked hard at the Giant Defy 3 after asking the same question on here, general consensus is that it’s a cracking option.

Went for a CX bike in the end.

I always politely ask for a discount whenever making medium/large purchases. As cloud nine says, there are margins. Or to put it slightly more bluntly – only suckers pay retail.

    What could possibly go wrong?!

I swapped off the 35mm Sammy slicks my CX came with and I’ve had 28mm Conti Gatorskins on all winter. 90psi, 60-80 miles a week, no punctures yet, hardly any wear on em.

I have sad nothing whatsoever regarding the religious aspect. You have assumed that about me. It is in no way relevant to my argument.

I said quite clearly that the swaying argument for me here is that there can be no discussion about the guilt of these men. One of the best arguments against capital punishment is a miscarriage of justice that results in the death of the accused.

I am surprised that what I thought was a measured and thought out argument has upset some more than some of the posts on this thread!

I’ll stick to gassing about bikes on here.

    Joolsburger – steady on.

I have been measured and non-emotive in my discussion on this topic. Read my other posts.

Fair enough Nick, I personally don’t have those reservations. One of the most common arguments against capital punishment in my mind is – can you be sure the suspect actually did it. In this case, no such issue.

I am undecided on the capital punishment debate and can see both arguments.

However I truly despise these two particular men, I feel comfortable saying I would like their lives to be ended for what they did .

Whichever side you are instinctively on, this case has to be one of the clearest arguments for the reinstatement of capital punishment.

For white coat syndrome, go to boots and get a good quality home monitor.

I have to have a medical every year for work, used to get problems due to the uncomfortable feeling of the squeezing which led to worry about the feeling and result etc etc when I was totally fit and heathy. I just got under he numbers to pass my medical.

Now I do a test every Monday at home, not to monitor the numbers, to familiarise myself with he feeling. Medical Now no problem.

This will allow you & the doc to find out the actual number and take appropriate action if required.

    Good luck,pal.

Schwalbe Land Cruisers. Cheap as chips, very puncture proof.

I’d say don’t use a phone for strava. Murders the battery and is inaccurate.

Get an Garmin Edge 200′ about £75 new.

Tom Tom better than Garmin IMO. I’d say don’t get the biggest screen – gets in the way. Mid sized screen Tom Tom.

+1 Vaults. Just the best. Don’t know about the maintenance side of things cos they’ve not needed it despite being ridden twice a week in all weather for two years.

Bout right, mine is 6M square and the quotes are 3900 for rubber and 3600 for fibreglass. Both good local firms with good reputations.

I think the thing about flat roofing is felt, rubber or fibreglass… It’s who does the job that matters.

    +1 for CBT.

The MTFU bit is getting to the doc and insisting on the CBT, it can be difficult to get on a course. Do it. It makes a massive difference.

    Good luck mate.

Your flight now showing 1800 departure on the e FLYBE website.

Sorry it was a bad experience, the current wind at EXT is suitable for your landing at the moment, 210 at 29 so do-able. It depends now if your aircraft has been delayed during the day. Or just bin it off and get the car?

A-ha Wellington gets hellishly windy. I’m flying with some of the CTC cadets who have done their initial training down your way. They come home with some good stories.

    Pomona – 34 – ABZ?

    tomkerton

Oh it will be quite bumpy so the gin and Valium are a fine plan but the gusts are only temporary, the mean wind is forecast at 25 which indicates the overall mean wind. The 44 is the worst possible case and hopefully it will be only 32kts when you arrive. Fingers crossed!

    tomkerton
    Free Member

Yes – you’re getting good at this.

So that means that between 11 and 1pm the wind will pick up to southerly direction 25g44 and remain so until the end of the forecast period – in this case 6pm. NSW means no signifiacant weather (no precipitation) and the cloud base at 2000ft

The last bit means Between 1pm and 6pm there will be temporary showers with reduced visability associated.

This forecast makes it a good likelihood that you will get into EXT IMO.

Birmingham is a possibility, runway is 150 degrees. Not too bad a drive south.

    Morning toys19

EXT have issued a forecast only as far as 3pm but it shows a 25 gusting to 43 knot wind from the south up until 3pm. The runway is east/west and therefore the wind is indeed, as you predicted, all crosswind. 43kts will be above the crosswind limit of the dash, I can’t remember what it is, probably something like 35kts. However the aviation forecasts are worst case so it’s common to see that and it not be quite so bad on arrival. And you’re arriving a couple of hours after the forecast runs out so I will check again in a few hours. Not wishing to second guess the Captain but I should have thought that (s)he will load fuel for two attempts to land at EXT and then fuel to divert to an airfield where the wind is more down the axis of the runway. That’s what I’d do anyway!

    BECMG 1406/1409 14016G26KT
    TEMPO 1408/1410 7000 -RA
    BECMG 1410/1412 6000 RA SCT008 BKN012
    PROB40
    TEMPO 1411/1417 3500 +RA BKN008

Which means at Heathrow there will be a 16gusting 26 knot wind by 9am with a good possibility of light rain from 8-10am. After 10 the rain will increase in intensity.

Your flight may be a bit bumpy towards the end but generally no problems for the BA or Lufty boys.

    Hi Toys19.

The forecast doesn’t yet extend to lunchtime for EXT airport. But the MAN forecast for lunchtime tomorrow has been issued and there is nothing above the crosswind limits of the Dash for your landing at Manchester. There is only a small possibility of a shower for your landing time. I will have a look at the EXT forecast in the morning and report back.

I used to do the internal flights with the predecessor of FLYBE and can tell you that the guys are used to this weather and well practiced form doing 4 landings a day, 18 days a month!

Dan11 – thanks for the info. how about the ethics and nuance of the body check after the puck has been passed? Is it used to intimidate or to tire the other player out? What do players consider ‘acceptable’ and par for the course and what is beyond the pail?

    tomkerton
    Free Member

Cheers pig face, I thought there must be some nuance there. I will look up the YouTube vid.

    tomkerton

But some of the body checks seem totally ‘late tackle’ territory to take the rugby analogy on. I’d be pissed off to get blindside mashed into the boards a good few seconds after I’d passed. And then I saw one guy get pinged for body checking and the ref making a big deal of it when it seemed fairly tame compared to the other ones.

Bloody love watching it though, cracking sport!
