Pitduck – the case for banning fireworks apart form licenced and organised displays is very strong. Primarily the safety aspect of giving idiots explosives. Furthermore a significant proportion of the population find these 2 weeks very antisocial. I personally can’t stand garden fireworks as my dogs are terrified.

Tips – all common sense really. The puppy training is a good framework to,pick out the bits that work for you. I don’t like automon dogs so,I make sure I get the walking to heel nailed cos pulling is a pain, and the coming back when off a lead because it’s a safety thing and the rest doesn’t really matter IMO.

Heel walking is just a battle of wills. Go out walking praising or treating all the time he’s not pulling – and every time pup pulls – stop, gently correct pooch back to heel, set off again. It can be maddening.

The coming back when off lead is about making you more interesting than the dog/squirrel/person ‘over-there’ that pooch wants to investigate. This can be done with food , fusses or sometimes by hiding/walking away/turning your back.

I very much like praise based training ie treat or fuss for doing the right thing, ignore the wrong thing. We use a sharp ‘no’ very very sparingly for serious misdemeanours like trying to eat the furniture but otherwise it’s all about prising the correct/desired behaviour.

The situation you describe imnotverygood could,be down to the airport authority. Whilst I cannot stop someone getting off… if the airport will not/cannot provide steps or facilities for my passengers then clearly no one can disembark.

This situation arises when a major airfield closes because of a crash or a weather phenomenon (snow mainly) and large numbers of aircraft divert to regional airfields.

So I think that the significance of that paragraph is that they can go,in the unheated hold (as they generate a lot of heat) whilst live animals have to go in the small heated hold so from the airlines point of view different levels of care would be required. I am an airline captain.

We get our authority from the Air Navigation Order (an act of parliament).

I cannot order a passenger to stay on an aircraft once boarded, it’s not one of my powers! (I can and do negotiate beg, plead,cajole etc)

I can however order someone off my aircraft, that is one of my powers once you’ve boarded.

I never got wet in my TNF tadpole despite monsoon like Lake District wild camping weeks. Might be a touch small if you’re after 2/3 man. Tadpole is comfy for 1 and ok for short trips with 2.
