But that’s my point PrinceJohn, Mr Lineker doesn’t have to be on twitter (he doesn’t need the exposure!) I used to follow him too. It’s revolting what people write but…. he could save himself the grief by deleting his account.

    @Renton

Make sure the pins are in!

The Jags (&Harriers) must have been hard to work to eng on, so many add-ons and bodges over their service life. Cool jet the Jag though.

I do both, use the CX for road riding about 50/50 mix of road and mtb and wear the same gear.

I’ve found Altura attack soft shell hoody s thin so you won’t overheat but still wind proof and looks good IMHO – not too roady and good for mtbing too.

The Morvelo thermo- something range is brilliant for colder days and looks the business too.

Welcome to the CX world, which one you getting?

No but word of warning, I have snapped a set of rods in the drain, the brass collar failed.

Had to dig to the joint and get a drains man to break the pipe to retrieve the plunger and rods. Expensive, time-consuming and annoying.

Go careful, and if it’s stuck fast get a local independant bloke round (forget dynorod and the rest) to see what he can do and possibly CCTV/jetblast or otherwise sort the problem.

I feel your pain, good luck.

Drac answers this question correctly on page 1 with his clip from True Romance. The best monologue ever – and I won’t discuss it further.

Do you or a friend have an air rifle that works? Reliable, humane and 100% sure you’ve got it- my ratting option of choice. Set up enough light to see by at dusk and put some bread or dog food out, set up quite close so as to ensure a humane kill. They are hungry at dusk cos they’ve been holed up all day so will come out

I don’t use poison cos I have dogs and animals and the poison can be bought out by the rat and contaminate the surrounding area.

Live traps are good for the dippy youngsters but the older wily ones won’t go near iin my experience. And then you have to dispose of said rat by driving it miles or shooting it which I don’t like doing in the box.

The Old fashioned neck breakers are ok but they are bloody deadly to set if you get your finger in them whilst setting them.

    Yours,

    An experienced ratter!

I wouldn’t at the moment though.

I have been to Cairo just before the political unrest and it’s quite a challenging place to visit when there isn’t a chance of being caught up in demonstrations. You need to be very aware of scams and ‘guides’ who are going to fleece/rob/rape you.

    I’d leave it mate.

    Lost in translation.

EDIT – hadn’t seen page 1 when I posted. I guess that I’m in good company regarding this load of garbage!

+1 for Granville Island. Do the brewery tour of the Granville Microbrewery if you’re into that. I really enjoyed that.

Climb the Grouse Grind if you’re into walking up hills.

Mooch around the bars in Gastown if you want bars/clubs.

Eat lunch at The Bread Garden on Denman St. After walking the Stanley Park sea wall – Best. Lunch. Ever.

Yes I have the yellow & black one off wiggle too.

Excellent build quality and looks good too. Plenty warm over a thick base layer for me. Arm holes are snug to keep the warm in, works really well

They come snug so go for your size or one up if your going to wear over a thicker top.

    Buy it, you deserve it!

Franksinatra – if I was making a list of things driving me up the wall for the last 48 hours those would be in my top 10.

I’ll add one – my usual 45 minute walk with the hounds, probably my favourite time of the day, taking 45 minutes to get out of he house then an hour and 30 of plodding with inane commentary and random panicking about the dogs getting lost, hurt etc

I do early shifts at work so wake up early on days off, like to ride as the sun comes up too. “Best time of the day” cliche and all that. I like to experience the changing of the seasons over the year at the same time of the day. Weather is often clearer and calmer first thing, especially in the summer.

    Another +1 for Mazda 6.

Mine was 08 plate 2.0d, 65k miles, sport estate, £8,500. I’ve done 20,000 without a glitch this year.

    Thank you all very much.

The event is very muddy apparently, almost an assault course.

I plan to train exclusively on trails, I’m only want to be able to get round and get to the bike! I’m not looking for a time.

Agreed regarding the variability of soft shell. Some are not breathable at all.

It’s so dependant on how you hot you burn. I wear significantly less than the guys I ride with, I prefer to be cold for the first 10 mins and just right for the rest of the time, they hate the feeling if being cold and open zips etc as the ride goes on.

My recommendation for road riding in the cold ( 0- 3deg c) is textran thermo or something similar – I found a bargain Campag top and Morvelo do a thermoactive top. Both do me on the coldest days with a thin berghaus LS base layer. This fabric seems to have the right combination of keeping warm in but allowing breathability to keep the worst of the damp out.

I don’t think there is a solution for rain. You either get wet from the rain if you’re not wearing a shell or wet from sweat if you’re working at any moderate effort because manufacturers’ claims for breathability may sound wonderful, and event and gore text certainly breath better than other membranes, but I just cook inside.
