vdubbers' last post is the most appropriate. I have a enduro biased bike built up light (but still sporting a 36) on the nose at 30 lbs. Having rode a few bikes in my time, i do not underestimate the benefits of a few less pounds, lockout front and rear and 'racier' geo would give me as opposed to the Heckler.

I have a downward biased Heckler built burly for my size and weight but with relatively light components. It is on the nose at 30 lbs for a enduro based bike with a Fox Talas 36 up front. I have just changed the rubber to Nobby Nics, that i must say have hit the spot with me in terms of performance (and weight). And next is a new chainset which will probably go the way of XTR or Truvativ Noir, depending on what deals are around when i come to splurge.

The Heckler in this guise eats downs for fun and is the perfect bike for me, and that's why i built it that way! I had a Scott Genius Ltd before that was difficult to get the best out of but very light, i enjoy riding the Heckler that much i don't honestly notice the extra weight.

I was considering a coil but had the RP23 'Pushed' by TFT and it is 100% better than before, the mod and was a relatively cost effective measure. But defo do the RP23 upgrade, and ano… while the price is that cheap you ain't loosing anything.

Will post a image when i can find my flickr sign in! 🙄

I love how sensitive some people are about their bikes (or potential future bikes!).

For the benefit of 'Son of Moyes', i ride a Cruz heckler. I rode both bikes and genuinely got on better with the geo on the Cruz for my riding style and bias to wards a burlier build. Single pivot also, which i love the simplicity of. It was actually a thread on STW that put me on to the Cruz, when i had issues with paying top whack for a Five that was going to be updated in a few months time. I have not been disapointed, and yes it is very asethetically pleasing (for me) with each ano'd weld purfect but i respect that it is not exactly a 'purists' choice. The key word here is choice, it is what makes us all individuals (and these threads so interesting). 😉

Over priced plough. It is not exactly cosmetically pleasing, what is going on with the welds on the head tube? I'm sure it rides better than it looks, which is why they are so popular lets face it. But just coz it's british don't give it any extra appeal for me, my ride has to tick almost all the boxes… in my eyes! 😉

Ah… so maybe it was a cyclical fatigue break? Yeah, could be, although it just sits against the drop out on the Heckler. I'm just please the mech is o.k! 😀

I have have a similar problem with my RF Deus XC chainset. I have removed the chainset a few times recently for one reason or another, the last occasion to replace the useless standard BB for a Hope ceramic. I have the same creaking noise discovered on the first ride today and it is driving me nuts!!!

Can anyone tell me if there is a torque setting for the reinstalation of the 8mm crank bolt? I have fitted the cranks with the reccomended spacers etc(2.5mm Drive/73mm Cup) and used suitable grease etc. How far do i tighten them up? Just as far as i can before the cranks stop spinning?

As it happens i have just finished a 'eat natural' fruit/nut/cereal bar that was rather satisfying. Bought 2 types (prefer the Yogurt coated blueberry/pistachio) job lot from Makro and they are rather delicious and workout very cheap per bar and hassel free to boot.

    LOL Love this forum craic!

Thanks anyone know of a good place to pick up a durable battery for this type application?

Depends on what lifts your skirt 😉

Marginal for the downward stuff, although this is directly linked to your confidence and ability to not end up in a mangled mess of tubes and what was you.

XC race whippets benefit due to the upward pull available from being clipped in. This can have a energy sapping effect if you are not of this stereotype and prone to this type of punishment.

I found that sticky flats suited my riding better and gave me confidence through the knowledge that i can bin the bike if i get 'comprimised'.

[Can't beat these for weight and strength at the price ….]

They are tasty. The hubs are very artistic. Big thumbs up from Tommo!

See what they are like for durability and let me know!!! The Enduro's are bomb proof and great for vibration damping bcause of the kevlar spokes.

[Then again, I wouldn't really worry too much about what other people think. It's your bike, so just do whatever you like! Either way, I'm sure it will be pretty special to ride…]

Yes it does wonders for the confidence… having said that, i came off it for the first time tonight! Had to happen at some point the way i have been riding lately. 😉

If you ain't falling off you ain't trying hard enough!

    Easy.

I have a set of Conti Speed king protection available? Super light and fast, 2.3 for the front and 2.1 rear, the 2.3 is very narrow though. Mail me if you are interested. 😀

Couldn't live with the red cables in the end! 😕

Went with some silver braided Jagwire that matched the Hope braided brake lines.

    Much better now i reckon….

X2 i900's and couldn't fault em. Seat clamp not the best but nylock seemed to help once i had confirmed the optimum reach etc. Quite a few riders use them on our local trails and the i900 seem to be the most prefered, the play in the Joplin seems more noticible. Check out the Spesh Command post if you are looking at remote posts, 3 settings. I prefer my 'cockpit' uncluttered and rock with a lever version and it is great. i950 out now but at a big jump in price for 50g i went for the better value post that i could vouch for.

Check your seat post angle… my old Genius was quite difficult to depress due to the angle, i had to weight the saddle on the nose to get it down efficiently.

    Observation from this morning….

ride with your mouth open and chew every 30 seconds! What is it with insects and my face? Great protein, although the after taste ain't that hot.

Still, all part and parcel of the magic weather! 8)

    Hello fella.

Did you take the plunge? I must admit i like the look of the tread pattern of the tires and the dual compound thing is similar to the Intense system 4's in running at the moment.

Would be good to get some feed back and cost anyone?

DIY special +1 here. Can't fault it, combined with mucoff will easily clean two bikes with 5 litres. And for £12 they are easily replacable if needs be.

The stories on this thread show the reasons why I've become my own mechanic over the years.

What training organization did you use? I have been looking at CYTECH recently but the costs for 'non employees' are more than i would like to spend at the moment. I think that i will do their home mechanic for a start (although i am confident i can do the vast majority of the elements to a good standard) to give me a idea if i want to take on the level 1 and justify the cost also.

If only they had known that i am a serial spender that can not resist the temptation to splurge repeatedly on the next best thing! If they had maybe then the dab of loctite may have been considered.

    Tomahawk

what shifter was it… i cant think of one that isn't single bolted and hence unable to come off.

SRAM X-O and Hope Tech matchmakers were the components in question. 😉

A dab of loctite was obviously beyond their budget for that minute. It was dangerous apart from anything else. Not that i'm saying this is the typical standard they operate at, it was just disappointing when you have heard good things having transfered from 'another' questionable shop. They're not exactly local either! And another thing…..

    😉

    Ah….

I'd been waiting for a thread like this to emerge. I recently spent a small fortune in my LBS on bling (500 squids +) and when i went to collect the bike remembered that the schrader cap was missing off the shock (my doing previously) and asked them if they had one to which he promptly replied "tha'll be one pound please". 😯

Are times really that hard? And did the assistant/mech actually consider the effect that sentence would have on my good will and intention to build a good relationship for the future? I don't think so.

To cap it off (LOL), my left shifter nearly rattled itself off on the first ride after getting the bike back! It could have been very messy should the said shifter actually detached and got caught in my front wheel on the decent where i noticed it. Correctly torqued were they? TBH… it has inspired me to further develop my mech skills so that i can guarantee that everything is done to a satisfactory standard. But stuff like that is a basic thing in my eyes. Am i being unreasonable?

'Escapism' as a term is true of many drugs and is often a result of unhappiness. Although it is sometimes difficult for this realization to occur. What starts as a good craic can easily become a way of life for some people. At this point there is no more fun left in taking drugs only a habit and the need for 'that' realization.
