Salsa Whammy… Good shout! Didn’t think of Salsa 🙂

Thanks Sam but I’m not looking for Renthals.

The Easton was a possible choice… How do you get on with the 750? I know there are times where my 710 feels tight on the trail but I’m still going up to 720 tho. Daring.

Thanks Bol… I’ll have a look at that and bear your advice in mind bud 🙂

I think I will have a fully committed attempt at covering to spuds this summer. I’ve dabbled before but after a baptism of fire where i fell off at slow speed more than once (quite a few times tbh) due to a combination of lack of experience and confidence i stuck with my flats. The thing is… I like the planted feel of my stealth rubber on a nice wide platform. And to achieve this with SPD’s I need them tight. I can’t get away with the movement of slack pedal and just seem to be stuck at this stage. Also I’ve had a few decent offs in my time where I’ve been able to abandon the bike and if I hadn’t the consequences would have been much more severe tbh. I found that on really technical accents on SPD’s where I’m blowing out my arse and traction is difficult to find then the physical movement of releasing the cleat is far from second nature. I kind of like being able to dab if I need to, walk into cafés etc without sounding like a tap dancer so I’m not sure if the benefits will outweigh the downside for me personally? Still gonna try tho… One full summer and after that I’ll stick with one or the other! Lol

Sweet. I’ll just drop onto a double and bash set up on my existing then 😀

    Thanks for the feed back!

Yeah I hear what you’re saying bud… Think i’ll go for slim line rings and give it a shot! For the sake of £400 on new cranks anyway. Tbh… I’d probably opt for a X.O carbon crank if that was the case. Cheers 🙂

How did you get on with this? I’m looking at keeping my xtr M970 chainset but changing the rings to suit 2×10 speed.

    Going with a 26/38 2×10 set up.

Next thing is Shimano dynasis 9 speed compatibility. I have read that it will still be possible to stick with my M970 chainset (with 10 speed rings) and update everything else? Would definately save me a buck or two… Not a massive fan of the new futuristic looking chainset tbh.

Has anybody opted for a similar setup?

Tbh I rarely used my granny ring. But it did get used on the odd occasion. 😕

The new axle would need something to screw into tho… Here lies the issue. 🙁

Thanks for the info… I’ll see if I can get some more info from 2pure. Surprising CB’s have overlooked the 12mm rear too.

If all else fails there are some tasty deals kicking about on new forks 😉

I’ve got a Topeak mini ratchet that is very useful, especially in confined areas… i even use it for the odd bit of DIY its that good. I’ve had crank bros and others but this is the one IMO 🙂

Cheers peeps… got a deal on CRC so have gone for Ardent/crossmark combo 🙂

at the risk of asking a daft question… i still need to use a sealant yes? 😐

That was me just salvaging the bike in that river… i managed to catch some soft mud and a rotten log that stopped me from going over the edge. If i had of been wearing SPD's it could have gone very wrong indeed. It was a case of spot the bike when i'd checked for impact damage!

    Nice touch Mtt!

My old man has a Portugese… and a Bi metal Daytona. Both very nice, yours is a very tasteful collection also.

Would love a Jaeger Master compressor, the internal craftsmanship is something else. Seen as though my sis is now living in 'Singers' that may be attainable in the near future! 😆

Seadwellers are the industry standard in my game (helium release for saturation decommpression), a friend of mine recently sold his Comex faced issue for £24K… yes £24K. I went for a Panerai Luminor Marina Auto PAM 164 in the end, due to the heratige, simplicity and originallity of the design. And also break the Rolex strong hold, the dweller was one of the only specialist diving watches available back in the pioneering days so has a mega reputaion, although is far from reliable. I've just bought another G Shock (for general usage) as the Marina is gettign a tad worn on a daily basis, and i am very nervous incase i happen to loose it on the seabed at -150 meters.

    Thanks all!

The pedal strike point was a good un! TBH it would be a mixture of reasons, a mostly due strength/weight with a bit of bling factor on the top. Not that happy with my current RF Deus, and the rings could be due a change shortly.

The price could be something to do with the new Dynasis 10 speed coming out, but i have no intention in being suckered into more 'apple' style product replacement.

Like the look of the Broady there Si!

What's the geo like on a large? 130mm fork? Warranty etc? Any more more pics? And part ex available? 😉

Love some of the Airborne frames, they are like rockin horse s*** tho. I would have to run a 120mm fork minimum due to the type of riding i prefer and know what i can get away with being a heavier rider. I would prefer to stick within the recommended set up perameters to keep the geo on the money. Might have to be a 456 then.

Been on the site and they only have XL's left apparently? I wonder if that is a error on the site? I wouldn't have thought they would do a XL.

Try some dual compound grips. I suffer from 'white finger' due to industrial vibration damage and use a larger diameter dual grip and find it helps. Apparently, to off on a bit of a tangent… it is important to keep the pulse point well insulated, your wrists in other words.

Thanks fellas… Andy you seem to suffer with the same 'grasshopper syndrome' that i do!

Do you both rock 100mm forks? And what wheels do you use?I would be apprehensive to go lower than that TBH.

Looking forward to this new project!

Yeah, i have done and it looks fine. Just was wondering what other people's sizes are in relation to the frame size. Unknown waters in 29er cove.

I had a problem with a particular brand where the bolt had been machined (excessively) to save weight. The clamp didn't hold the post with the suggested torque, so i upped the ani a little (only 2NM) and bang it went. The same thing happened with the replacement. Just guess the combination of post, frame and clamp weren't compatible. I have replaced the bolt with a Ti one now and whacked it right up!

It could be the chainring bolts… just changed em for some KCNC red ones when i changed back to a triple. They seeemed ''snug' but will check. defo not pedals. Thanks.

Wellgo Mg1's off ebay for £30. Very light and strong, quality with my Adidas originals.

On closer evaluation of this problem it seems that the noise is coming from the rear cassette(Sram redwin red cage only fitted 3 months ago). When the brakes are applied and force applied to the cranks there is a noise/slight movement in the cassette? The cassette is fitted to the correct torque etc…. any ideas? Free hub problem?

Who do you ride with? Are they above or below your level? I found it helped me a lot following fast skilled riders and their line choice etc to build confidence. They are a great bunch of chaps and there was never any MTFU involved, just practice until one day, you are smashing sections you bottled before. Training is wise tho, money well spent as opposed to the latest bling. 😀

Ye… it is a i900 dropper. I have had two of these and both have been worth it for me. When i get on it, i don't like to stop to put my saddle down etc. Minimal slop, service it every once in a while to keep it smooth. I went for feel with my bike also and find it never disappoints! 😆

Thanks for all the input and links. I love the way people make assumptions like i need 6 months training to get upto 'the level'? 😯 This thread was never about fitness training, which, as it happens… i know quite a bit. 😉

I will be exhausting demo days and bikes where possible before i make my choice and will have a damn good stab on the Heckler for the time being. And then probably just, stump up for a TallBoy anyway! ooouch! 😯

I've done super light hardtail before when i was 'fresh' to the MTB scene. I bought a Scott scale 20 off ebay with about 30 miles on the clock without really knowing what it was about. It was very quick but also felt very nervous/twitchy with my considerable stamp perched on it. Although i am a fan of carbon, having owned the Scale, i think i would shy away from it this time.

I have heard that Ti is more forgiving and 'springy' and would love a 456. But…

How much does the FS really make a difference towards the end of a grueling event? And is it worth the extra weight? I'm thinking it might. And then could also be used in other guises (i'e xc) if required to do so in the future. It would be a more versatile machine is what i'm trying to say.

See what i mean…. i would 'hate to start hating' this bike because i used it in a way it was not built for. I think all the racers out there are worried and just want to keep the 'advantage'.
