In/out 50.1:49.9 there are a lot of bigots, but I still have faith (just!)

Specialised camber comp. I would normally recommend a canyon nerve, but he may want to ride it while the weather is still nice.

I have the same issue but also need the car sometimes unexpectedly. I drive to work, ride home, then ride back in the following morning. I can leave clothes and towels/flannels/wipes in the car so I don’t need to carry anything on the bike.

The bonus of this is I can ride the mtb home (20 miles) and commute back on the cross bike (15miles).

RRP was £780 in 1993. I hate myself for knowing such worthless information.

Imressive fact retention is that! Either my memory is worse than yours or I was ripped off 😆

the other 11sp alternatives from everyone else..

SRAM NX is heavier and more expensive. I just got a new XT 11-42 and it felt quite light to me, I sure I will notice the extra £200 in the bank before I notice any weight penalty!

Re old v’s new, I think the old stuff was finished better (xtr was nice) but in performance terms it is no ware near even low end (ish) modern stuff. I have just rebuilt my dads Breezer with early 90’s XTR and it is pretty clunky by modern standards.

The value of modern stuff (XTR not included) is astounding. I bought a Marin Pine Mountain in 1993 for about £1000, it had deore/xt mix, crap wheels canti brakes, no suspension. In 2013 I bought a Scott Scale for £999 it had deore/xt mix, crap wheels great disk brakes, well dampened suspension, it was much better for the same price after 16 years!

Nun more enduro than strapping everything to your bike with electrical tape. There was a recent GMBN video on how to do this in an eduroist way…….it mostly involved wearing a back protector with lots of pockets that you could put tools and water bottles in, so like a less convenient, less comfortable version of a camelback. It did look super enduro though. #tooenduroforyou

They are all really dull. Better to get one from the early 90’s when even small Japanese hatchbacks were interesting.

I’ve got some M1700 spline 2 29ers and they are great. Freehub can be serviced in 5min with no tools, setup tubeless first go with a track pump, despite continental tyres. My only crtisism is they are a bit too quite!

Anyone with this problem on a 6/7/8 speed freewheel should try one of these (expander cogs are not a new idea you know)

Made the world of difference for my 8 year old

If someone made a big estate that was as wide as an sub across the back they would sell loads. I was looking for a big 4×4 estate and was really struggling to find something that will swallow 3 child’s seats across the back row. I don’t like Audi or bmw (nor can I afford one), Subaru levorgand outback is too narrow, Honda don’t make the accord anymore (not 4×4 I know), Skoda suburb is OK loads of legroom but not very wide. I can’t stand people carrier type things, so I ended up leasing a. 7 seat X trail. I don’t like it, but if meets my needs for the next couple of years until the eldest is out of his car seat and I can go back to normal estates.

In summary I blame car seats.

If you are using tape with adhesive, take all the backing of before you start wrapping.

Has it got normal hub spacing? I am thinking it would be a good buy if you could swap the wheels out to some 24″ ones.

Ive just signed up to a leased car as I have a new job that means I need to provide a car no more than 5 years old (car allowance). I’ve also just had another baby so need something big that will fit 3 car seats in. Usually I hunt out a really good secondhand buy and have done pretty well over the years not get no stug for much depreciation or repair bills. I was looking at a Honda Accord 3-4 years old, mostly around 10-12k out of warranty, so quite a punt. I just put a cluch in my 10 year old civic at a cost of £1000 😯

The value of leasing depends massively on the car you are after. I wanted a Subaru Forrester of Levorg, but would have been £600+ per month leased. I ended up with a Nisan X trail (decent spec) for £300 per month. PCP on this would be £450 per month and £6000 up front. If I wanted to own the car at the end I would have had to pay what it was worth.

In this instance leasing is a no brainier. I’ve gone for a 2 year deal as by that time I won’t need something so big and apcan go back to normal estate cars. Also a Subaru Levorg will be about 25% of its list price.

Here you go, a bit spendy and probably not reverb stealth compatable:

I may be missing something here (wouldn’t be the first time), but mist 2x cassettes are the same ratios (near enough) as a1x cassette. Therefore the spacing is the same. I had m8000 2x 11 with an 11-40 cassette, the 1x offering usually has a 11-42 cassette, the only difference between the 2 cassettes is the biggest sprockets, all the other gaps are the same. These gaps are in fact almost the same as as on a 11-36 10 speed casette, which is what you get with most 2×10 of 3×10 setups. Obviously you could use a road casette, but I see very few xc racers reducing the range on their cassettes. Also, and the reason I swapped to 1x, is that if you are in the granny ring it is probably quicker to walk/run!

I can see the point in 2x if you live somewhere with proper mountains, but not for racing (24h excluded).

I think dugast are brining out an tubeless tubular (tubelesslar???) Your open tubular won’t work though.
Out of interest how do you find them? I am considering this set up on mine (open tubular that is).

Knock down any old lath and plaster ceilings and do any re-wiring before you move in.

Another thing he was told buy a guy who is one if not the best wheel builder about in Scotland was stay clear of 29ers
To much flex on the wheels he wouldn’t even build him a pair

Sounds like BS to me, flex is all relative. The DT Swiss splines on my canyon are plenty stiff enough for me, as are the stans arch ex 29ers I built. I am the greatest wheel uglier in my house though 😉 I did bend some cheapo factory wheels landing on a tree stump though.

    What’s £50 between friends, eh?

Better frame geometry, comes with a Pike and Sram 11 speed transmission.

AL8.9 29er so you can get one quicker, also has a pike and full XT.

I had an S13 200sx and it was a total money pit, I was glad I wrote it off in the end (350bhp+turbo lag = crap in snow) 😳 I know many people who have has s14’s, nearly as much trouble, and will be pretty rough now. S15 is a bit less exciting and not that quick unless you tune it up (the previous would then apply also).

For my money I would get an unmolested impreza. If you want to be more subtle a spec b legacy would be great and just as practical as the Peugeot.

350z is ok, considering most modern cars are dull as dishwater.

1 golden rule, make sure your new bike is the same colour as the old one.

Didn’t even bring it round the back! As said before…..bloody amateur
