Years ago when i was fitter, i used to go out on the fast chaingang on my road bike, i found it too easy, so i used 53×11 all the way around the quite hilly circuit, even then it wasn’t that hard. Next time i used my MTB and i found it very hard and i actually got a decent workout for once.
I don’t live at the bottom of mountains, so i cant use a road bike for a decent workout, so using a heavier bike, i bring the mountains to me.
Surely it cant be that hard to figure that out.
On the 100kg bike i can get a really really hard workout on the flat and when i actually come to a hill, i get an even better workout.
Of course you have to produce more power when you’re on a heavier bike, hence you get stronger.
I have done weights for years because i could NEVER get a really hard workout on the road before, but now i have my 100kg Cargo Bike, it actually feels like i am doing weights when i cycle.

Trust me when i say, i know how to train and i know what i am doing.

Maybe Chris Hoy and Craig Maclean didn’t know what they were doing either when they used to use a MTB loaded with weights and the brakes on when they were training!

    Cracking effort that one mate!!

You are surf matt and I claim my 5kg of ballast.

Yeah I was surprised that he was given a sport licence-can’t really comment on the winning margin…..the front of the race in sport always seems to be mental fast though! Last years winnner won the expert race this year!

How did the bike come out of the crash Nick?

Definitely not long enough. I fear that Callum Clark isn’t really going to get a meaningful ban either. When is his hearing?

Think he’s riding for Metaltek Scott this year…..he’s definitely an Elite on the road and rode for Raleigh last year-think he was the youngest domestic pro last year……he’s a nice guy and a very talented rider-think he won an E,1,2 circuit race last weekend and finished about 12th in the Eddie Soens too.

Your experience sounds exactly like mine was last year at Sherwood Flange!! Big step up from regional level!

Don’t worry about how quick the winner of sport was-he is/was a pro, and rode for Raleigh last year. He’s an Elite on the road, and rather fast-pretty daft that he’s in sport imo.

Report him!!! I mean wtf-you just don’t go round punching people! As for he must have been having a bad day, I have had several bad days recently, and just before xmas had a couple of days that will be filed as the lowest I’ve felt in my life-I made it through them without punching anyone though and did a fair bit of driving in that time too 8)

Snigger…..I too am a professional musician-Matt Bellamy is a bloody amazing guitarist, so too is Jimmy Page. Sure there are a lot of amazing session players out there who are very good too but calling Matt Bellamy ‘better than average for pop’ is just a bit daft.

Joe Satriani and Steve Vai both use pretty big pedal board setups. A guy I know called Dave Ital who is a session player uses a very nice effects setup. Pat Metheny-imo one of the best jazz guitarists alive also uses effects….

A board allows you to hide behind all the effects on it thus disguising the fact that you’re not very good.

For some maybe. For others it is an important part of their sound. I use overdrive, wah, delay and tuner for any rock/blues gigs that I play-I’m fairly confident that I’m not disguising any technical shortfalls…….then there’s the setup that I use when playing live Dubstep/Electronica on Bass-impossible to do without an array of pedals-I currently use 7 and will be up to 11 once I’ve got the spare cash.

I got given a Boss BCB 60 just before xmas so am using that atm. You can’t fit many pedals in it though-I’ll be getting a custom one made at some point this year. The pedal train ones are pretty sturdy from what I’ve seen.

3rd for Ableton….I picked up intro for £60 recently and am using it to record my Live Dubstep/DnB project atm. I’m not overly impressed with the samples/instruments that are bundled, but I’m basically just using it to program beats, and add a couple of background synth parts-everything else is made by bass guitar and effects pedals and recorded in.

For £1300 I’d get full Ableton, a decent set of monitors and sub, and a decent keyboard controller by Akai. You could easily get very good kit for under £1000 too….

As for the whole Dub/DnB arguement………its all music at the end of the day innit!!! Always amazes me how much people try and classify music. It seems especially prevalent in Dance and Metal music!!

Muse? Not that recent-10 years plus now, but still releasing new material.

5 years isn’t alot of time for a band to develop the kind of career to sell out stadiums imo.

I bet that 1 Directions could probably manage it :D

Get a tracker fitted and unless you really need to drive at night, get a curfew applied to your policy between 11pm and 7am…..some insurance companies do this and it will bring down your premium. Ka will be shite for 1 bike let alone 2-my missus drives one and its a squeeze to get a bike in even with the wheels taken off. Kia carens/ceed if you can find one cheap?

Our household income after tax probably isn’t quite 26k…..we seem to do just fine on it, and are even on the way to getting onto the property ladder at some point this year.

I have a job that I love, and would much rather go out and earn my cash than sit at home all day and get benefits.

Not worth it imo. It’ll almost certainly end up being strung as a 6 string after a year or so….re-stringing and even tuning are a complete PITA and they really aren’t that different to a 6 string! I’ve got a yamaha cpx 12 string that is very nice-think it last got played in about 2005 though-probably last had 12 strings on in 2003!

Also schools seem to want the children to wear a uniform yet the teachers wear what they like surely they should all wear a corporate uniform, same as the children.

I’ve taught guitar in numerous schools for the last 7 years and every single school that I’ve worked in, both primary and secondary, have required all male classroom teachers to wear a suit. I too wear a suit everyday for work-it give a smart and professional appearance imo.

I think that I just got lucky-Mrs B didn’t own any rings prior to getting engaged/married….I ‘guessed’ based on the width of her ring finger being the same as my little finger-it was! She also absolutely loved her engagement ring and when I proposed it was a total surprise to her-I did the whole cooking her a posh meal and getting down on one knee thing and I’d also mentioned it to her parents beforehand. She seemed to really appreciate it all and we’ve now been married for 5 months :-)

My Dad’s built one….think it cost him £100 or so for the kit-they’re really hard to ‘finish’ ie paint properly-he’s pretty handy at stuff like that and made abit of a balls up!!

As an instrument it is easily in the worst half dozen or so that I’ve ever played-impossible to set decent intonation, and had a very awkward feel to the neck. I’m sure there are better kits to be found though…..
