Actually, on the note half way up this page about bike porn. I’m still baffled by how a 5-Spot is bike porn, and a Five is ugly, might just be me :?

If you relax your eyes when looking at the images, you should be able to see a bike fade into view around the brand name.

I love the out of date single pivot stuff. What you guys want is one of those new fangled “four-bar” bikes that hit the market 20 years ago.

Fives used to be expensive, to be honest the value is pretty much the same as an equiv Trek/Specialized/Santa Cruz nowadays.

The majority of warranty issues seem to go smooth, the frame weight is very similar to other trail bikes (~7lbs), bearings all very easy to maintain, dropper post routing, tapered steerer, normal bb etc.

Can’t see any huge issues to dislike to be honest. You’d rarely hear people making a thread about how they hate Canyons steep head angles, Zestys QR rears, £75 wheels on a £3k bike. Yet a rage filled Orange thread about how someone finds a swingarm ugly is common place.

Not quite the same I know, Reverb arrived from Bike-Components.de today. Delivery took exactly the same amount of time as CRC, retail/2012 + bleed, bargain.

Orange Five – Fish finger sandwiches, top notch, even though lots of people will pull faces and tell you it’s rubbish! :-)

Rigid Scandal 29er – It’s like when you pick up one of those M&S low fat meals, get back to your desk and realise you haven’t got a fork, but an awkward plastic spork instead.

Yeah, sure I would have a couple of years back, I’d rather just have a Solaris now :-)

I guess it depends how you climb too, I’ve never felt like a “need” pro-pedal, and I’ve always felt like I’ve got much more traction with it open than DW link ever gave. Depends on the bike I guess, my FSR bikes on the other hand I always did find crazy bouncy uphill.

Smaller volume shock and/or higher compression tune with single pivot?

Found my XL Mojo far too short, riding a 22″ Five now, much happier.

Really wanted to like the Mojo, the big ones are just so crazy short compared to everything else on the market, to get it in perspective, XL (21″) Mojo wheelbase = M (17″) Stumpjumper FSR wheelbase.

All my Specialized tyres lost their shape and would never seat properly after a couple of tyre swaps, curiously never really suffered it with any other brand. To their credit, they were normally wide/light/tubeless-ready for their weight, I guess it has to give somewhere.

Raleigh Marauder (Index, with a gen-yoo-ine 6-speed SIS rear)

Was that the white one? I remember they came in a bluey colour (with 15 speed?), or white, I really wanted the white one. Then some how ended up with a Raleigh Lizard which was much the same.

I think Spotify is fantastic, happily pay £10 a month here and use it on my mobile as well, my one qualm is that I can’t chuck mp3s directly onto a normal mp3 player. Which means I have to put up with carrying a bulky phone around if I’m using it. Office job though and it gets used all day, end up jumping around genres and listening to bands I’ve never heard of.

NetFlix I’m not as sold on, I’d happily pay a bit more for better quality. Even if they had to limit it to only watching 2-3 premium films a week or something. I’m still content enough to keep using it, and I’ve not downloaded a film in months. We still download the odd series though.

It’s all just convenience as far as I’m concerned, used to download loads of stuff as it was more convenient than BlockBuster. Used the LoveFilm disc service for quite a while, but found something I semi wanted to see would come, I’d never get around to watching it, and it’d sit there for 6 months. I like deciding what to watch, there and then, not months in advance.

My god ton, that list is legendary 8O

Starting from where they vaguely went mountain bikey:

    1992 Raleigh Lizard
    1996 Raleigh Max Cromo
    2001 Specialized Enduro
    2003 Specialized Stumpjumper HT
    2005 GT Avalanche 1
    2007 Specialized FSR XC
    2008 Commencal Meta XT
    2009 Ibis Mojo
    2010 Pitch Pro
2010 Tricross Comp — still have
    2011 Scandal 29er — still have
2012 Orange Five — still have

I get hideously mocked for going through bikes so fast, don’t feel quite so bad seeing this thread (which means I can have a Solaris  ).

£1100 for a sheet and some poles, then of course you’ll need some more poles. Bet those 1 gram pegs would last long either :-)

Are you sure it’s PCB related? Mine used to do this, I’d plug it in 20 times, restart it, restart Kies, and suddenly it’d work.

After swapping to a random ICS rom I’ve never had a problem, not one, it’s been fine. Much better phone all round after swapping to be honest.

I thought it was a Gingerbread + Kies + drivers thing, quite a few people had similar.

Edit: Oh, going into dock mode while not connected?! Maybe not what I had then!

Cheapy Sony ones here, I prefer the open ones that let you still hear what’s going on, something like these. Much better sound quality than stock iPod ones, very noticable difference jumping between the two and cheap enough to replace. No issue with them falling out here, neither does the missus who uses the same.

+1 on go for which ever you like the look of tragically, Zestys are pretty good value this year anyway, you could do much worse.

Anyone think it’s a tad expensive?

Carbon frame, X9, decent forks/wheels etc. Not really.

Who, aside from Canyon, can beat that for £3k? Much better value than Specialized/Treks attempts at the same. Zesty 514 is the only obvious competitor I can think of that vaguely matches it, and it’s got cheaper wheels and things.

Whats the big selling point on the Kronolog just out of curiosity? Why would people sway that direction over a Reverb?

Not digging, just curious, planning on buying a Reverb today or tomorrow from Germany.

Like most people in here, an Orange Five frame, pimped out with Kashima and some Float 32 RLCs. Sold my old frame, so a Reverb will likely follow tomorrow.

Some Sunline V1 745s and a Sunline XC 80mm stem too, I think that was this year.

if you were really stingy with the sealant, maybe you could save 50g per wheel, but then you’d lose much of the puncture resistance…

To be honest, which is more likely to puncture, 50ml of Stans tubeless, or a 100g tube? Yellow tape + 50ml at each end was fine for sealing 2.4″ Nobby Nics on Flows, and keep them sealed for over a year.

I’ve got some Maxxis Flyweight tubes that have lasted ages too, if I get a puncture it’s generally thorns, which callously pop anything from flyweight to DH tubes.

    Scandal – dull xc plodder

There hasn’t been a scandium version for years now.

Scandal – Exactly the same geometry as the “brilliant” frame, but made out of aluminium. Fairly friendly for an aluminium frame too, not as brutally stiff as the Stumpjumper I had before it.

Great stuff, compare a brand new cheap tablet to a year old ipad. If I add an ipad 3 to the table its drastically more powerful than either, comparing raw CPU MHZ is such a stupid way to go.

Massive Android fanboy here, own an SGS2 at the moment with custom roms and things, SGS1 before this, I’ve published an Android game. I’d still say ipads are better hardware than anything Android to date rather tragically. Very good battery life, very responsive operating system, absolutely crazy amounts of graphical power (like double a Transformer Prime) and a screen far better than anything else out.

I’ve heard nothing but bad stuff about the cheap Rockchips, it used to be the case that half the ones sold on ebay as 1ghz were 600mhz. You’ll have sod all compatibility with games and things running those as well, rather than the 100% the ipad will offer.

30 second Google search: U9GT2 – Sounds great!

    Pancake break anyone?

I guess if a cyclocross is too roadified, a rigid 29er would sit at the other side of the fence? With some nice hard wearing tyres you’d get a good distance out of them, rather tragically enjoy riding around roads on my Scandal more than my Tricross at the mo.

    Bit racey perhaps.

Woah, get that one, no more talking, that one. Awesome.

Fortunately mountain biking saved the day!

Traffic on the quiet country roads is nuts. Had so many flying past on Sunday, giving me inches, in the middle of a crazy hail storm, riding along a torrent of water up the side of the road.

What we really need is a bike with wheels that can grow between 26″ and 29″ to win all arguments.

Uploading from my Garmin here, use both. Endomondo I prefer as a general fitness tracker/record, Strava only seems better on the segment scoreboard, the interface can be a pain to get around compared to Endo.

yet plenty of people still seem to lap them up…

And you also assume that by adding an extra £20 CNC’d lump of aluminium and 10 more bearings, justifies extra cost. Single pivot isn’t out-dated, it’s different, and sells a lot of frames on it’s strengths. I’ve owned a DW link bike and a few FSRs, I like the single pivot lot the best.

Unless you meant elastomers on a unified rear triangle or something obviously :P
