    Voodoo Hoodoo/Bokor? Look decent, stocked at Halfords. Curiously the 29er versions seem to be in 20.5″ minimum.

    Awesome, my big Oury grips have become fashionable. I knew it’d happen if I ignored the mocking and kept using them.

    My bike’s are a bit too functional to be cool though I think.

    The painted one at MM looked very nice from close up. I’d be tempted myself but at 6’6″ and 14 stone I’m a bit worried about it exploding (like my Carbon Zaskar did).

    The downsides? You decide… But lots of people think an orange 5 is a good looking bike, but the Maverick is ugly! And looks sell bikes in the UK (ever seen a Mondraker on the trails? Or a Mongoose full sus? Me either!), not performance in general…

    Indeed, the Orange Five sells purely because of it’s stunning beauty. Those fools would be much better off importing a Maverick from god knows where, and hoping the ACME shocks have no issues.

    I think you’ll find “having a distributor” sells bikes in the UK, something Maverick seem completely incapable of being able to sort out.

    There’s a science to it, it’s all about the axle path.

    Yes, the BB isn’t on the mainframe, and yes the suspension stiffens very slightly (about 6%) when the rider is stood over seated, but IMO this is actually desirable as if I’m stood up pedalling hard, I’m probably putting more power through the pedals anyway so slightly more resistance from the back end is no bad thing

    What I like most about full suspension, whatever the outcome it’s easy to quote it as a positive! FSRs/4-bars are more active while climbing for more traction! Single pivots tighten up under pedalling pressure due to the chain pulling the swingarm!

    It’s good to hear the right answer to suspension has been calculated with SCIENCE. I personally really got on with single pivots, found 4 bars too bouncy and Maestro/DW boring and dead feeling. Clearly the wrong answer. What colour grips would make me go faster?

    These are my new plan I think, maybe 1 and a Nevegal if I’m being cheap, a pair if I’m not.

    SB8’s will clog very quickly in Mayhem mud (but then so will most tyres).

    My thinking was they’d clog into thin muddy discs, where as the Nevegals clogged up into huge fat tyres, getting stuck on the stays :-)

    There was only one part of last years course I found really bad, I can’t see any tyres coping hugely well with the clay type mud that built up there briefly. It did dry quick though.

    If it’s dry:

    29er 2.1″ SB8s and a smiley face.

    If it’s wet:

    29er 2.1″ SB8s and anguish.

    My only other tyres are some 2.2″ Nevegals, I stuck them on in the wet last year, they clogged up and stripped the paint off the frame. Don’t hugely think they helped to be honest, might stick one on the front.

    Anyone know of any decent cheap mud tyres? £120 on 4x Maxxis Beavers for myself and the wife is looking a bit steep.

    Most likely going rigid on a Scandal, might chicken out and stick the Rebas back on.

    Edit: Oh and my tip would be not to fret too much about taking stacks of food, unless you’re riding to win. The catering tents have a good selection of sensible stuff for decent prices.

    It’s not the hose/cable knocking the inside of the swingarm is it? It makes quite a hollow sound.

    As the swingarm compresses the cable slackens and knocks the inside.

    Toasty- I wasn’t stating they showed reliability I was just saying the numbers that the manufactures have stated.

    Where does it state 100 hours for DT Swiss and 10 hours for an equivalent Fox service?

    I run them all year round on my 29er. I was tempted when the Slants came out, but for another 150g I’d want something a lot more meaty.

    DT swiss are every 200 hours and fox are every 10 hours.

    What rubbish, take both numbers and skew to back your point up. For a start, service interval has no bearing on reliablity. Secondly I think you’re trying to compare a wiper service to a full strip?

    How do they measure up just out of curiosity? I’d be very tempted but they looked a bit short in the top tube compared to my current Scandal?

    B) surely wouldn’t have a 10 minute service interval like Fox. It also appears to be a bit lighter.

    Well Tom and Dave are of Chilean and Cuban parentage, and the producer they’ve worked with the most, Rick Rubin, is Jewish. Slayer are rubbish white supremicists.

    Bet it’s a cosmetic crack in the clear coat, mine did that, in a similar same place. I think the clear coat is quite rigid stuff, and the frame is quite flexible.

    That was mine, I sent it off to Hans. Turned out it was just cosmetic, he offered to send it back, or sell me a crash replacement front end. I went for the new frame, in a different colour too.

    Ourys or ESI Chunkys, both fantastic. Ride without gloves on most of the time though. Hated Sunline Half Waffle lock-ons curiously, the inner bit got in the way of the shifters and after years of using Ourys I found myself hanging on the outside, which was just hard lockon clamp thing.

    ESI have the advantage of weighing sod all too.

    What, 57% have run through a red light ever? Bah. I guess I’m branded in the naughty book. There used to be a dodgy junction near here, the positioning meant cars would try and race and turn infront of you every time. I did occationally just go when the pedestrians were going when I could see the car next to me was going to be an arse.

    No junctions like that on my current commute, haven’t been in that situation in years.

    One guy I work with just used to chase the cars and bang on their bonnet with his fist, could have been worse :P

    Nics/Ralphs/High Rollers/Ardents here on Flows. Never had any air burp out in about 3 years of tubeless usage on Yellow Tape.

    2.35″ High Roller Folding = £32 / 690g
    2.35″ High Roller LUST = £40 / 890g

    I use absolutely sod all fluid (like 50ml), and don’t top it up, the tyre tread/carcass goes before it dries out.

    In Hans’ own words, he’ll never leave an Ibis owner with no bike. Even if you’d bought it tenth hand, 5 years ago, and it looked paggered. I bet he’d offer a crash replacement cheap frame at very least.

    what made it so difficult was a bit of crap advice I’d been given, doing it this time was a different story. Live and learn eh.

    Clearly all those other people in that thread, and the bike shop you had to resort to taking it to when you failed yourself, all had that bad advice. It’s not that it’s just really hard or anything.

    I gave up on it and took it to the bike whisperer, who said quote “That was a total ****er of a job” I think eventually he dynamited it out. But all was well after that.

    Well my Hemlock’s got about 50 bearings, but they don’t need replaced often, and when they do it takes an hour and about £20.

    Actually, on another note. Some frames seem to be right sods for this, really could never be arsed with the ones on my Meta. The Five has the two with little allen key split jobbies, really quick job I’m assuming, certainly looks less intimidating/risky.

    Seems like a very small plus to nit pick on, easier has to be better than harder and requiring a variety of weird sized drifts? :)

    The conditions last night were puddlely, slippery and arm breaky. Spent most of today in A&E.

    It was really swift last weekend, as above, it drains pretty well though. Even when it’s hammering down there’s very few sections that become boggy, be prepared for sandy grit to get everywhere if it’s really wet though.

    Leamington seems to be chocka full of mountain bikers, yet have no mountain biking for miles. See so many threads on exactly this on here and Bikeradar.

    The Bike Yard/RLS XC Thursday social rides might appeal? Never quite got around to tagging along.

    I think I’ve mentioned before, but when I was at high school (nearly 20 years ago now), a lot of the (white) girls in my year were sexually active by the age of 14, and most of them went out with (white) guys who were in their mid-20s to early 30s.

    Thought it was creepy then, and still think it’s creepy now, but at the time they wouldn’t consider having a boyfriend of their own age. They would hang out until 2am with their older boyfriends, drinking cider, smoking both normal cigarrettes and weed, and thinking that they were awesome because of that. I think part of the problem is that for a lot of girls, there’s a belief pushed by certain areas of the media that you’re only worth something if you’re sexually attractive, that affection shown through gifts is more valued than respect – and it’s very easy for adult men to exploit that.

    I remember my one mate laughing because another friend’s boyfriend had tried to persuade her to take part in five way orgy on camera. It was a very odd thing to be talking about whilst trying to study GCSE physics. :s

    She said no by the way…

    It seems utterly tragic that one of the victims was ignored by the police, allowing this gang to go about their business.

    Recieved one yesterday, it came with about 40 psi in it. Curiously the manual was totally useless and didn’t explain any of this. After a bit of reading around the net, I stuck 200 psi in it. All working fine now.
