There are some .txt files in the root of the phone memory that can take up a fair bit of space – I experimented with moving them to the memory card (just in case they were required). The helped for a while but the files soon grew again, so that didn't help long.
I've checked my firmware and I am in fact on the latest version, so there is nowhere to update to.
To change the message save location you need to select Messaging, Options, Settings, Other, Memory in Use – click on that and you should be able to change it to the memory card. Slows it down a fair bit though, when opening recieved messages or writing new ones.
(mine is a vodafone branded 5800 so my menu settings may be different to yours.)I will let you know if I ever get to the bottom of it…
TNFree MemberGrahamS – who? Me?
The question was what everyday things have you never done? They're all fairly everyday and I have never done them.
I have done lots of interesting, exciting, painful things but they certainly wouldn't fall into the 'everyday things' box… 😉TNFree MemberSo far I've:
never broken a bone.
never spent a night in hospital (as a patient).
never been skiing/snowboarding.
never watched a football or rugby match on TV.
never been to Ibiza. And I have no desire to ever do any of those things.
TNFree MemberDo you know you can set it up so texts and emails get saved to the external memory instead? (I did that, still having the same prob. Just about to look for a firmware update…)
TNFree MemberI have a similar problem with mine. Like fatgit says, restarting every so often does help but I've never worked out a more elegant solution.
TNFree MemberJimmy (or someone else?) – could you possibly do that as I don't have access to a PC at the mo and I can't do links from my phone, for some reason…
TNFree MemberThanks to everyone who's sponsored us so far – especially those who've done that for Mark (petesgaff) and Meg, in lieu of (or in addition to) a wedding drink/present. You're all fantastic and it's choking me up every time I get another notification to say someone has donated… We're at 86% of our target of £2000.
I can't believe the ride is a week tomorrow.
J's bike is broken and back at the local bike shop so I hope it's fixed in time (I am sure it will be, they are great and haves helped him loads in getting him back on his bike!)We'll let you know when we've finished – expect a full write up…
TNFree MemberSmudger – much as I'd love to buy you ALL a beer, I kind of meant Mark and Meg. But you knew that really, didn't you? 😉
TNFree MemberIt's good to hear from you Mark.
J says if any of his London days fall in with your hospital days, he'll come and visit, maybe buy you lunch if you feel like it?I like Meg's reasoning for the wedding being sooner rather than later. Good lass.
Although to be fair, you may look much better as a baldie than you expect, and there's hours of fun to be had using sellotape to 'wax' patterns into your hair once it starts to go. 😉 And then there's the silly hat parade.
Another plus is that you don't have to put up with months and months of wedding planning! Are girls going to be allowed at the reverse stag do? I hope so because I really want to buy you guys a beer!
And Simon, happy vibes coming your way too. Heal fast and heal well. 🙂 Don't belittle your situation, it is tough to deal with. There's no comparing here, tough is tough!
TNFree MemberHow exciting – baby racing….
Best wishes to you all, hope things are well under way by now.
TNFree MemberI know you say you haven't tried any new products, but do you use flouride toothpaste?
I had a horrible breakout of dermatitis around my mouth and the doc suggested flouride toothpaste might be aggravating if not causing it. I said I was using the same toothpaste I always used and he suggested sometimes 'it just happens'. Maybe you have become temporarily sensitive to something like that?
Just an idea – probably talking crap…TNFree MemberDon't dismiss this idea straight off, but Dorothy Perkins do 36" leg jeans and some of the styles are very straight so if you are man enough to wear womens jeans it might be worth a look…
TNFree MemberNow you know you can get on and kick some ass. Like the others said, the doc is removing the offending article so it's a case of getting better then. Remember, you are in an advantagious position, being a fit young man – you're in the best place to recover quickly. (not TOO quickly – make the most of the rest time because you'll be back in the thick of it all too soon.) You know where we are if there is anything at all we can do to help. Either of you.
TNFree MemberFollowing a high speed motorbike accident (too fast, own fault, bike in a tree) my sister in law ended up with a collarbone that looked remarkably like the OP's and 5 broken ribs.
The hospital in France did not operate initially, waiting to see whether the bones sorted themselves out. It became apparent after about 4 weeks they were not going to so she went in to hospital in Sheffield for surgery.
She was in, operated on, and home the same day and said that it immediately felt much, much better.
She regained full range of movement in about 3 weeks and was back on her new motorbike after about 6. She has a very neat scar but she says no lumps, sore bits or pain. Quite amazing really.
I think she would recommend the surgery without hesitation.TNFree MemberStrangely, in all the years I've been bouldering I've never had any elbow problems and then I bugger it up cycling. Sigh. I'm going for G&T therapy right now. It may be helping a little…
TNFree MemberShort but quite helpful. Just going through that rehab guide now…
The comment about 'honking' – does that mean pulling hard on the bars when going uphill? (I vaguely remember the term from my roadie days) If so, I think I *have* been doing more of that as I have been incorporating more hills and I have a bit of a mental problem with spinning… :-STNFree MemberScaredypants – I should have searched and didn't, so thanks for the link. Did a lot of googling, but couldn't find anything that referred to cycling.
I kind of thought it was just me being anatomically weird but clearly it isn't, which is kind of reassuring, but I am glad it is improving for you. Off to read your thread now…TNFree MemberWhat year? We have 2 of different models so we can go take a look if you let us know?
TNFree MemberI lost half of one of mine (lengthways – I can't do anything normal!!) due to ill-fitting boots and a long walk. The new nail finally 'joined up' with the old one about 8 months later. I was amazed how long it took. It was fine in terms of being sensitive after just a few weeks, so it wasn't too bad – just looked horrible.
TNFree MemberLoulabella – the photo's taken just above Briancon in the French alps. It was totally stunning. A week wasn't nearly long enough… Mark, thanks. Will mail you soon.
TNFree MemberThanks folks, I feel quite reassured that they just need a good bleed.
TNFree MemberSorry, yes. I forgot to say we have messed with the reach adjustment on the brake lever, but that didn't really help, it just moved the 'softness' further forward/backwards.
Also, apologies if this all sounds dead basic – I am just getting going with the bike maintenance so I am afraid I am currently relying on my big Zinn book and the experience of others and you've got to start somewhere, I guess…
TNFree MemberHi folks. Sorry to bother you again, but the ride is fast approaching (oh boy!) so I thought I would just ask again in case anyone missed this first time round or had intended to donate later. Thank you all for donating/reading our updates.
And for your viewing pleasure, we have been practising at altitude… (yes, he IS wearing lycra!!) 😉
TNFree MemberLike the Cap'n says, they are all going to do the job so it's down to preference.
I like my Kyles but most of the time I do find them too warm to wear while I'm riding and they are not that easy to put on and take off because of the design. Also, they are quite bulky in the back.
My o/h rides in Fox Launch Pads which are a full shin and knee hard shell. These have cross over straps to secure so well vented at the back and also they're really easy to take off and put on once you have the straps set up to fit you. And they've saved his knees many, many times!TNFree MemberNo, it's not just you. We spent our honeymoon in the lake district and it rained the whole time we were there. So we're off to the Southern-ish Alps on Thursday for honeymoon re-run. 🙂
TNFree MemberWe're on our second Accord estate. Looks nice, great to drive and HUGE load space. I have just discovered today I can get even more in than I thought. Our first one, a 53 reg was a slightly sportier one than the current 57 auto and my god it was fun to drive. 🙂 Have had 3 Audis before the Hondas, wouldn't have another.
TNFree MemberV5 is the registration document – so if the ownership was transferred to you then you should have a big multicoloured document that has the details of the car – make model engine size colour VIN etc, and the details of you on it.
I wish I could remember the insurance company I used, sorry…
TNFree MemberI am sure I have had insurance in the past where you are sent the insurance cert by email and can print it off. It might have been motorbike insurance but I would imagine some car insurers do the same.
TNFree MemberI have 2 friends who use the extended wear (day & night) lenses and both think they are brilliant. One has eyes that can stand up to anything so I am not surprised, but the other used to have loads of problems with 'regular' contact lenses and she loves these new ones.
I think she takes hers out and gives them a clean/soak every week or so, but I am not sure about the other friend.TNFree MemberLike everyone else has said, please keep posting – it's good to hear from you and posting could help keep you sane at times. And anyone who has a problem with it should, as others have also said, piss right off.
And I second Diane's suggestion – when you've kicked it's arse we should def have a supporters and survivors ride.
Keep at it, both of you – there is so much positive energy flowing your way you can't fail to kick this diseases sorry old arse.
TNFree MemberMe and Julian have said on many occasions how great this place is. Whether it's advice about bike mods, rehousing single gloves, moral support or generally just pulling together when someone it. Even the grumpy and belligerent posters. 🙂
TNFree MemberI read the earlier update and was gutted for you, but your attitude is amazing and just what's needed to kick this thing into touch. I can imagine what a blow it was to be told – even when you're expecting it, it still comes as such a shock. In our experience once the diagnosis was given the treatment followed very quickly so you can really get on and attack it. Like so many others have said, if you (or Meg, moreso) need to talk or have any questions, please mail me – my address is in my profile. I don't have any big answers but I do know how much it helps to be able to get those words out of your head sometimes. Bon courage, my friends…
TNFree Member@ eldridge – you have no idea. I snore, I snore and sound like a f'kin tank, but it's not apnoeia. My bro's life has changed gbeyond recognition since his diagnosis and treatment…
TNFree MemberGooner, would you mail me via my profile and I'll pass it on to my bro. Having some probs with my mobile so can't send link to this thread to him.
TNFree MemberMy bro has it and tried the cpap m/c – it really helped him but since then his chiro put him in touch with someone (not sure if it was another chiro or similar) who had a special interest in sleep problems. He showed my bro some breathing exercises which he did/does and these have actually meant he didn't have to have surgery. Sorry this is so vague but I don't remember the details. If you want me to find out more mail me and I'll put you in touch with him. T
TNFree Membercrikey – that's spot on. Very nicely put.
It sucks there are so many people here who've had first hand experience of this kind of situation, doesn't it?
TNFree MemberPlease tell Meg if she wants to 'talk' she is more than welcome to email me. So are you, of course, but I think I may be able to relate to her position better than I can yours…
Best of luck to you both.
T
