I too have an other half that is a knitter – Tried on my christmas jumper last night, its looking good so far.

I like getting custom fitted jumpers but most of what she makes is for her or some family presents.

Have you seen ravelry yet? A mixture of singletrack and facebook for knitters and crochet) and 10x filthier than mumsnet! (well – in places) 😯

Luckly her ‘stash’ (for that is the word) isnt too large, just a corner of our spare room, you get used to checking the sofa for needles before sitting down 🙂

Wife got blown off (tehe ) while riding on Lewis in the Scottish western isles. It was the culmination of about 8 days of crap weather, we stopped and hired a car after that!

I get the blame because I was riding to the side trying to shelter her and the wind was so strong from the side I stopped pedalling so my pedal wouldn’t hit the ground. I therefore slowed down, her front wheel popped out of the shelter of my bike and disappeared sideways! Luckily only walking pace!

I also have the surly ss hub but would buy a standard hub and spacers if doing it again.

I have done the sufferfest intermediate plan this winter. Enjoyed it and noticed a big difference, even not following it exactly.

don’t forget it will end up costing alot in videos though, its quite an investment

in terms of topping up, the main times i struggled was when i ignored their ‘easy Sunday ride’ and did either a really fast chain gang or a 100m + . The week after would deffo suffer as a result and id skip stuff

Another +1 for drive the deal PCP. Nice new car for a stable predictable outgoing per month and lots of options at the end.

Yeah ive done the three routes in a day this year, u will be fine. +1 for maucelaine being hardest and approx 2 hours each climb being a ‘good’ time. Worth it for the views but i was ruined for a few days afterwards!

    Nope, next question….

not many manufacturers are fitting supper light tyre to DH bikes to try and sneak the weight down.

the true ‘new standard’ in bike weights is the top of the line cannondale trigger. Obscenely light for how capable it is

IME you want either compact or dslr

the bridge route gives you a camera that’s awkward to carry (ie needs a bag) but isn’t as responsive, capable or usable. Pick one or the other imo

Real shame, almost certainly the end of his career, he was a late starter as it was.

I won a competition and rode with him when he was on rapha-condor. Came across as a really solid guy and wanted him to do well. when I met him he came across as a very old skool rider in terms of training and tech approach so I couldn’t really see him getting into the ‘science of marginal gains’, just ride fast until it got dark and do the same the next day kind of thing.

Funny how you see these things when you are colored by just a short meeting with him isn’t it 🙁

chain was shortened, its pretty much right at the limit of how short. Drivechain might be too worn though… mmmmmm

What about hub compatibility these days? im pretty commited to my old skool 9 speed chris king ISO’s will that take 10 or 11 speed?

Correct it is just a 3* front mech with the limit screw wound in (and it therefore sitting well above the bash when viewed from the side)

didn’t even know there were 2* front mechs…

IMO the wider rims do make a difference to cornering grip/confidence.

im much better on A23 / h+Son Archytypes (both ‘new skool’ wide rims) vs the Aksiums I had previously.

However tyres are more important + 1 for Conti GP4000’s fantastic grip light weight and ok puncture protection (the sidewalls are a bit delicate but ill happily put up with that for how sticky they are!)

Another thought might be if you now have a stiffer deep section wheel that will be a bit more ‘skippy’ than a traditional build which would have been flexier and followed the road a touch more but we are talking miniscule differences here! When they do road bike reviews they swap the wheels round to account for this type of difference and nail down if the stiffness is in the frame or wheels
