Im running a mojo sl with bearings sitting directly in the (carbon) frame cups. Was a bit worried but so far no damage to the frame though lots of hard riding.

I would say the headset needs to be good though, my first £35 ish cane creek only lasted about 6 months. No cup means the bearings are pretty exposed. now got a cane creek 110 so im covered if they go again 🙂

In my experiance on an mtb they are a waste of time. the sensor will get knocked/ snapped off or it will bounce out of its bar mount/ get knocked out when you turn the bike upside down. Wireless sensors are more vulnerable because they are bigger.
Ive had several and all lasted under 6 months and im generally light on kit. Would suggest a GPS based one as theres no sensor to destry but then they are big bucks!
otherwise i use a smartphone with gps in my camelbak to give me the sort of info your after.
(on the road bike ive been pretty happy with the trek wireless one )

Well ive got some proper sound isolating shure 410's which are bloody fantastic HOWEVER i dont use them riding, they stay in but they isolate the traffic noise too well.

Riding i tend to nick my Gf's sonys with little over ear plastic clips

jesus well i didnt expect my quick response would get such a reaction!
They clearly have some way to go in terms of riding skill but ok fair play to them for getting out and having fun.
in terms of all the gear and no idea i've got pretty much no opinion on it. ive got all the gear and an idea and i think people shouldnt judge until you see the rider riding what they love and even if they are doing badly i would aim to help rather than giggle.

another MASSIVE thumbs up for TA backcountry bloody brilliant riding. pretty much unused trails, beautiful scenery top notch guys.
    Some word about the riding:

singletrack, lots of it some pineneedles through the woods stuff and some alpine meadows stuff
Switchbacks, lots of them too! most are 'easy' you will get the knack on the first day. Some are 'riding gods only' but are great fun to attempt/ watch ash attempt! I wonder if they still ride Calvins trouser snake or if it got called bejon bourg in the end!
rocks 🙂 some lovely 'bedrock' riding (la varda esp.) technical as hell in places, going down la varda i think i was breathing bretty hard and concentrating so so much.
I havnt been with the white room and it may be very similar but i gush quite alot about TA, can you tell!

    Thread hijack:

how long between a new engine model coming out and remapping being available?
Getting a 135bhp alfa multiair engine which seems to just be a detuned 170bhp version, how long before someone can change it back 🙂

    Macavity –
quicker turn around was the fact that to set up my last isa took about a week and it wasnt certain which day the fund was bought on.

in terms of 3-4 month timescale
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/news/business/market_data/stockmarket/3/twelve_month.stm

get in any time since jul last year and hold until youve made 10% or would be good to have a shortsell option for the way back down 🙂

dont listen to the northern monkeys about the south east. Surrey hills is beautiful Anywhere on a line from reigate to guildford will get you great riding, lovely towns/villages, not urban but close to ammenities and accessible to london/ the rest of the world if needs be. one downside…house prices reflect all this and are really quite high but there are 'cheaper' places eg redhill, leatherhead, bits of dorking

I did trail addiction with a xen and goggles last year and it rocks for that kind of alpine riding, and having come off onto my face it protects quite a bit more too.

I have some kyle straights which i bought for the alps but i find myself wearing them on and off at home too. No real rule for when i wear them, sometimes just as knee warmers when its a bit chilly, sometimes when im riding alone, sometimes when im on the full sus where my speeds are higher. Dont generally use them if im out more than 3 hours though, start to irritate after that long.

you think any government would be able to avoid cuts in this economic climate.
and child trust funds are regressive anyway as they are not means tested and takeup is higher among the middle/upper classes

(kind of just responding to the Tory part of your message but i expect ill loose out somewhere too. we are all gonna have to)

on a budget (where you cant afford guiding) you would be better off in Morzine/les gets anyway. So long as your not all on 80mm hardtails anyway!

No experiance but isnt chamonix pretty good for unguided singletrack?

Agree la varda is a must but its not that hard to find its just that someone would have to tell you where to look. I would say drop me a mail but actually I wont, because trail addiction are bloody brilliant and deserve your money rather than me giving out their knowledge for free 🙂

this forum is full of communists, david comes close though.
pay is reward for risk when it comes to starting your own firm.
Also pay is reward for skills shortage. contary to popular belief there are not that many people with the skills, experiance and determination to run a company. this is why the labor market for Chief execs is well paid.
If you feel undervalued you need to differentiate. If your skill set is widly available then you are never going to get paid beyond the minimum the firm can get away with. If money is an aim for you im afraid the only way to get it is to expose yourself to the risk of failiure (setting up own business, reskill, etc)
(prepares to get flamed for doing an economics degree!)

Coffeeking – what size? an what bike? i run a 2.35 kevlar on a 140 mm full sus. To get a high roller to work for you you cant mince about, if you corner with the bike 'relativly' level then theres no cornering grip. you have to really lean the bike pretty aggressivly before it comes into its own.

In terms of clibing grip, which way round are you running it? the vertical edges of the center tread give fantastic grip but the sloped edge is crap!

(not trying to imply your mincing about btw just supprised it doesnt work for you!)
