Just a small comment to re-iterate the difficulty in getting spares for the trek specific shocks.
Sent mine in for service (it had to go to SRAM) and ended up having to wait a couple of months for a warranty replacement.
Bought an ohlins coil from Tf tuned to tide me over, works incredibly on the remedy.
The air shock arrived but has gone straight in the cupboard! :)

Free MemberI was expecting this to be about Nirvana Cycles in Westcott – maybe someone complaining that they’d been ‘dropped’ on one of their group rides ?
I appreciated this, and if I would have sued after the first one of their rides I went on :)
titusriderFree MemberInteresting set of opinions on here….
I have a Mk7 GTI Performance pack, Bike always goes in the back, front wheel off and some sheets in the back. Some interior wear has happened but we bought the car at the end of pcp so its ours.
Primary reason being, going for a MTB ride is one of the only times i can drive on my own, often early in the morning, and therefore actually enjoy my car. Think very carefully if i were you about, your buying a ‘hot ‘ hatch to enjoy driving it, will you really be able to do that with bikes on the roof in confidence?
titusriderFree MemberI am a Surrey hills regular and local, know all the trails you have described well. I would suggest from my experience that it’s not worth fretting to much about being ‘overbiked’. I got a 160/150mm trek remedy two years ago and it has brought my riding and my confidence on massively. Now hitting bigger jumps, steeper lines, faster and with more flow than before. Longer rides aren’t a slog either, done 60k+ round Surrey hills on it fine. But I would say weight and pedalling efficiency matters, so IMO get a ‘big bike’ but one that gets good mentions for climbing by efficiency and get it as light as sensible (ie 30lbs ish)
titusriderFree MemberMore than most:
– bikes, bought 3 high end bikes over the last 4 years and ride them enough that there’s always parts or maintenance needed on one of them
– cars, got a golf gti that we paid off for 6years, finished that, kept the car and got a Porsche Boxster as a second hand, ‘fun car’
– house, living in the south east, mortgage is expensive
– Food, butchers meat but less often as with othersLess than most:
– flights and hotels, tend to drive for most holidays and do self catering
– going out/entertainment, most of our leisure time has always been spent at home or outside. Not much spent on eating out, drinking, cinema etctitusriderFree MemberAlfaholics GTAr for me as money no object
I did buy this last year though and I think it’s pretty classy
https://www.instagram.com/p/CL17cKeFK9_titusriderFree MemberBooked in on southern enduro rd1 Milland and rd3 QECP.
Hopefully it will happen and if not then just happy to help support grass roots racing by entering early.
Need to keep up my top ten placings from the 3 I have done so far 🤞 Although I expect it will be a tough field this year
titusriderFree MemberWhen I looked before it was wolf tooth 38 as the lowest, that’s what I’m running with an 11-42 and it’s low enough for most stuff.

titusriderFree MemberMakes some sense, I’m 5’6 and should be on a medium but went for M/L . Got more seat post drop by upgrading to this years new fox transfer which helps.
titusriderFree MemberBeen amazingly better for me, the integration of the heatmap makes it so so much better for mtbing. I would say a lot of the plotting needs to be done by eye with switches to manual mode etc. I love it though
titusriderFree MemberBeen delighted with mine, done well in some local enduro racing but some thoughts.
– I upsized based on treks recommendation to get more reach but have little standover
– it’s a fun, popable, flickable bike
– it’s got enough travel to steamroller stuff but it’s not really what it’s for.
– it climbs amazingly and I’ll happily do 50+k on it in a dayThe pink bike video review absolutely nails what it is and who it’s best for. (Rider who enjoys climbing, picks lines etc)

titusriderFree MemberAnything in the original matrix, preferably trinity’s double berettas
titusriderFree MemberChangeable/bad weather at the time?
The barometer based Garmin’s can really go wild or useless in poor weather. I just correct in Strava.
In stable weather mine is reasonable though
titusriderFree MemberJust get out there! 4 solid hours on the road bike this morning in the rain. It was satisfying, quiet and beautiful
titusriderFree MemberAgain I’d say a pretty excellent tour. 9/10 from me.
– Sam Bennett’s redemption coming out of the shadow of Sagan
– JV and their excellent team, I warmed to WVA, TD and Seb Kuss much more than roglic though.
– writing the race off as the most boring rider winning only to have pog overturn it
– dani Martinez stealing a stage win off bora
– LÓPEZ attack and stage win
– Ritchies podium
– hirshi and sunweb generally for brilliant tacticsBasically a lot of good even if roglic was a bit defensive in his riding, he had every right to be I know!
titusriderFree MemberTrue but they don’t appear to hold Jumbo Visma back.
That’s not really true tbh, jumbo are forced to pick rim brakes to make their bianchi’s competitive with other teams disc bikes, see link

Do what I did, custom carbon?
One point of note on all the people suggesting Rourke etc is that steel frame + discs = >8kg weight unless you throw a lot of money at it.
Tbf I quite like the Bianchi but I fear they are neither artisan nor developed with a sizeable r&d budget (eg specialized/ trek) So kind of have the worst of both worlds
titusriderFree MemberHad to check didn’t I…
you can fit a mountain bike in a 981 Boxster but you have to take the forks off :)
And both wheels went in the front when deflated (27.5)
titusriderFree MemberHave you thought about getting a burlier wheelset? Torridon is pretty flippin’ rocky.
😁 this is what I suspected. Just spoke to Trek who have confirmed the whole thing has to managed by a dealer and closest are fort William and Inverness. No posting wheels out to me if I break them.
I think I’m gonna go airliners and cross fingers, they have a lot of depth to them.
titusriderFree Membernot much help as i dont use over ears but i would say good in-ears can be incredible. Ive been running Shure SE425’s for ages and the quality is exceptional (although the sound profile not for everyone). Helps that they are wired but the shure aonic system looks interesting. Anyway, i guess im saying dont be put off in ears, they can be great and you dont walk around looking like your at a silent disco :P
titusriderFree MemberWell I bought my fun car and loving it so far, boxster highly recommended 👌
titusriderFree MemberOooh shiny carbon bits :)
That looks like a riot!
reminds me of this fantastic video –
titusriderFree Memberbeen overdue for ages, does look good. Got the same shock on my remedy and it is pretty impressive for general use/trail but im sure you could do much better for bike park use
titusriderFree MemberPersonally I would say that an M4, F-type, Boxster, or some kind of fast Audi are in no way interesting at all.
I know what you mean monkeyboy and others. A more extreme lotus/ Caterham/ Morgan/tvr/etc would be a great fun car but there are always other considerations.
For me, boxster is something that also appeals to my wife and excites her. That matters a lot when it comes down to it!
titusriderFree MemberRecently asked myself a similar question, although could stretch the budget due to an early inheritance gift from my parents
Pick this up on Friday
Boxster gts manualWanted a boxster ever since the 981 shape came out and finally have the chance for a really nice example. I’m a bit excited 😁
titusriderFree MemberCracked a rib so just taking it super easy. Given most of your stories I’m really glad it isn’t worse! See video for my ambitious drop which was never going to work!

I’ve been on the gravel bike a few times, holding back a bit but it’s sore. It’s also the not moving about at home without pain that’s most annoying.
Shouldn’t complain, but really wished I was properly razzing the MTB today rather than a gravel bimble
titusriderFree MemberThe braking performance is just better. Side benefits include wet weather performance and not wearing out nice carbon rims so you can use them all the time.
Negatives are weight, different skills required for maintenance and they can make noise (usually a sign something is wrong though)
Tbh it’s swings and round abouts but if u wanna run carbon wheels and if u ride in the rain I’d have them.
Last year descending alp d’huez on duraace discs was supremely confidence inspiring. Brake later, harder, enjoy the descent more. Guy behind me in the group blew up his carbon rims on rim brakes 🤷♂️
Edit: Oh yeah and tyre clearance 😁
titusriderFree Memberno personal experience but these guys are just down the road from me and the local bike shops have sent them a few things https://carbonbikerepair.co.uk/wp/
titusriderFree MemberThis looks incredible, its on my list for sure : https://bikepacking.com/routes/purbeck-bimble-dorset-uk/
titusriderFree Member63kg, 25mm pro ones that measure as 28 on a wide hookless rims. 65 psi.
Personally if you mate is a luddite and rides mostly on the road then just switch back to tubes. I’m ok with road tubeless but I don’t recommend it to people unless they have other experience and know what they are doing. But yes lower pressure is better.
titusriderFree MemberPlus one for Mtb’s should always have a dropper, massive game changer in terms of enjoying the downhills with one less thing to think about.
Still yet to try it on the gravel bike. there are times when I’ve wanted one but it’s usually when I’m being a bit silly and taking it somewhere it has no business being eg
https://www.instagram.com/p/B6yM75GFivoSo I’d like to try it on the gravel bike but feel I should probably just not be on those sort of tracks on it anyway!
Ps See how I’m riding without much body movement because there s it anywhere else to go with the saddle there!
titusriderFree MemberI’m currently wishing I could have two…
Currently have a top spec Trek Remedy and love it. Pretty happy that my space for one bike is currently well allocated!
However it would be interesting to try some 29ers again, I fancy a second bike with a more xc bent. The new transition spur looks beautiful or a Stanton Sherpa ti
titusriderFree MemberId be giving these guys a call:
H + I AdventuresNepal? Nz? or more realistically the swiss one looks amazing
I get the impression they are slightly more at the luxury end of things but you did say ultimate :)
titusriderFree MemberI’d have the new 5010, not a rocket ship on the flat but a riot of a bike.
Ps the older ones would be worth a look for more xc bias
Ps share your lack of love for 29ers but was happy dragging quite a big bike around so on a remedy 9.9 and couldn’t be happier
titusriderFree MemberLovely, I bet you will be very happy with it, here’s my 9.9:

It’s moved my riding on loads!
Mods so far if your interested:
170mm cranks, just for ergonomics
X01 cassette for weight
Pnw grips as I found the bontys a bit hard
Pnw loam lever mostly for matchy matchy
Personal saddle choice
Wolf tooth strap mounttitusriderFree MemberLook for, wider rims, Must be tubeless ready, More spokes (28 rather than 24) and better hub sealing
Don’t go less than about 1500g in my opinion. Go really heavy duty if you wan to loaded bikepack a lot
I got these and can’t recommend highly enough, but cheaper alloy equivalents are available, but look at the width for example.
Stayer gravel wheels
