it wasn’t quite two links, and those fancy 1/2 link things weren’t for the narrow chain that I was using

What narrow chain is it you using? Does it fit width wise on the SS rear cog nicely? is the pitch right?

Get a £5 BMX chain and give it another go, then you can also use your half link to help tension it..

They are lots of dosh, but the 2 other alloy posts ive had looked scruffy very fast, still functional but scruffy, The Thomson still looks new (ish) a couple of years on. Likewise stems, other alloy ones the finish just seems to tarnish my Thompson was 2nd hand and still looks new..

You used to be able to buy a million differnt styles of MX helmet peaks/visors back in the late 70s 80s but that was a long way back, when all the manufacturers used a pretty standard 3 snap stud fitting. I dont think any maker sticks to that anymore.

In answer, no I have not seen any multi fit peaks..

You would be better off building a few bikes from bits you think are nice and compliment each other, to a set price point, then see if they sell, anyone that can tell you a full bike spec and how much they want to spend has already done the research, and would be more likely to do their own.

Lets face it thats what the major manufacturers do, except they have a team of blokes testing and searching for the right bits, working with suppliers etc to create a bike in a certain price bracket, your just doing the same with used stuff.

Be nicer when it is right I rekon…

Is the Pike a 2 spring fork ie spring in both legs (sounds stupid question doesnt it)? Could try one hard and one medium if the hard springs are too stiff…

Do you have the rear set up similary soft?

Maybe its not trying to kill you on the downs is because you have a good bike and the balance is about right..

Soft front and a hard rear would, I believe notice more.

As said it really is a very personal thing, that looks a nice saddle you have chosen but only using it will really tell you.

For what its worth I used a Charge Spoon for the first time this weekend and it was lovely, I found it more comfy than the Bel Air and a WTB. Opinions vary.

It was about 22lb on the bathroom scales but theyre pants so not 100% sure.

They are Maverick SC32’s still make them, I like them, very light for a 120mm fork, and a short axle to crown height so didnt bugger the handling.

Yes Outland grips they dont match too well, my pal had them & the saddle on a gold Merlin but he sold that and sold me the grips and seat, they looked better on that. Nice grip though.

Even if it leaks a little bit the clean and lube can get lots more miles out of it.

I had a new shock body on a triad and it was about £70 plus the cost of the usual service… That was a while back mind you.

Its a new shock body to fix it, is it actually leaking though, have seen afew that look bad but dont leak… If its not broke, dont fix it.

Be worth removing the air can giving it a good clean and re assemble with plenty of shock grease/lube.

geetee1972 yes it does in a roundabout way, sounds like you want to ride all agressive in style, and big wide bars let you do that & to feel fast, but feeling fast isnt strictly the way to go fast.

Anyhow, run what you like its your bike… Have a good weekend all…

Nah, old hat, just gone narrow myself… control, pah its a push bike, whats going to get out of control? Must be all of 3kg of forks and wheel to sort out, used to like em a bit wideish on my MX bike, but then an MX’r used to wag their heads a bit at speed them days….

About shoulder width, plus a bit in my opinion.

Did I kill this thread or did it die of natural causes?

Pretty sure the curve in the seat stays is to absorb, deflect, dampen, (whatever term you choose), in any other words, to soften the blow of any irregularities ridden over, Ok its not suspension but that curve is a spring (for want of a better description) to take the shock of stuff your riding over…

If its not curved for that reason then I will eat my springy curvy stayed hat…

Here is pictures of 2 different seat stays, for arguments sake lets say they are both the same material frames, the same setup tyres etc, the tubing of the frames is exact in every way, diameter, wall thickness everything, the only difference is the bend in the seat stays who believes the curved stays would make the bike ride differently?

Your right about the bash ring though, mind you it was a fiver, not easy to find bash rings for a campag crank…. Any leads on nice looking 5 bolt bash rings the same PCD as Campag would be nice..

Litespeed made the Niota in Ti for ages, dont think they sold too many as it was expensive, lots of reasons to make frames from Ti other than ride quality, they tend to keep their looks pretty well being one…

There is a British company also making cast alu frames too.

I hope it didnt sound like I was being a knob then, I only meant upping the forks seems to be quite a popular topic these days, it seems a new breed of bikes are coming manufactured like it too…

I did to an 04 stumpjumper that was 100mm travel like your FSR, I liked it running 120mm forks, but you might want to look for some with a lockdown feature to help climbing..

I know you got your £200 budget and I am a bit stumped at that price, Skyline at Afan had two 16″ Kona cindercones at half price a couple of weeks back at £300 and I have seen quite a few new 07 Speialized Hardrocks at about the £270 mark, shops might haggle further to sell 3…

    Worth ringing Skyline I rekon…

gnar, I must be shite then, have ridden 4 different 4 bolt stems, a Specialized, Hope, Thompson Elite and Thompson x4 not noticed any stem flex on any of them.. Like I said maybe if I had a 1ft long quill stem I would have noticed, but between 4 different 4 bolts I cant tell..

thisisnotaspoon, I believe the test rig was to test frames to destruction, to show up any weaknesses in the design or manufacture.

    tinsy

I doubt its possible to feel the differnce in flex between one 4 bolt stem and another… maybe a real long, cheap 2 bolt stem you might.

Do they have to be Endura?

I bought the Endura windex clip ones (assuming its bibs your after)been good and lasted well but the clips have been a pain I had to modify them to make them comfy with a camelback.

DHB ones at Wiggle start at under £20 and are good…
