The seatube looks duff, thats your return right there……

Maybe its your pictures of the dropout, but it looks like the machine that burnt the dropout out of a sheet of metal wasnt setup right and there is slag or just a crap edge on the part (the step) thats been laquered over to me, it appears to be quite even allaround the dropout, not seen any metal crack down the middle and then one side grow 2%..

Hora, now I only have these picures to go on, but it looks like the paint/laquer whatever has been put on top of a badly finished dropout, you can see the same marks on the inside of the dropout. If it has happened since building (an it doesnt look like it), then its the paint lifting off the metal and not the metal cracked, can you flick or pick this loose paint/laquer off?

Got any pictures of the seatube crack?

Again I only have these images to go from but it just looks like a poorly finished frame to me.

    The seatube looks bad…

The mark on the dropout was always there, if you didnt like the finish on that frame you shouldnt have built it up. If you have a definate crack in the seatube thats another matter but if its a poor finish mark on the frame similar to the dropout, not sure how you will stand now its been built and used. (all assuming you bought it as just a frame)

If you bought it as a bike and didnt spot the rather nasty finish until tinkering time, then maybe you have a grumble…

Brownbacks your absolutely right on that, but there isnt even a local MTB club as of yet, I fear its all too little, too late already, your club looks ace.
I mentioned Summit MTB already on this thread, if we already had a race series and juniors skills training days a club etc as they have, and looks like you have all in place, we would be something to be rekoned with in the area, but right now its a just been a few moutainbikers turning up and listening to the local residents worry about parking and how much the 2 days of racing will affect their weekend.

Case, are you in any way linked to a club?

Sounds like he meetings were pretty much the same as last time taken up with locals worrying about trivial stuff, its only there for one flippin weekend, yes there will be a little disruption but they will be over compentsated for that in my opinion, if it bothers them they should just go away for the weekend.

The immediate locals are getting, new laid roads, drainage, and a host of other benefits, that will all cause way more disruption than the event itself.

They were talking about a permanent building by the course of some kind, wich sounded a bit overkill for 5k of trail.

I dont mean to sound negative, and am actually looking forward to the event itself and watching the racing.

From the previous meetings, my understanding was that they were leaving 5k of the loop but the race lap itself was a lot longer than that?

I didnt mange to get to the last 2 meetings, but from the first round of them it was quite clear those involved had been to Fort William and a few trail centres, but hadnt been to a small self contained riding area like Chicksands or Aston Hill, or the Summit MTB course in Lotts Wood, the race itself should be OK in Hadleigh (I have been throught this argument a lot of times) but its the legacy thats wound me up, or more importantly the lack of it for MTB’s 5k of family oriented trail isnt really what I was hoping would be left, we already have miles and miles of family suitable trail networks in the area.

Did they have any drawings or presentations on the skills area?

The older version of Mavics CD anodizing sounds quite likely, I said ceramic as they are grey all over, I can barely see any tell tale at all of brakes having been on them, wich is why I asked if they were suitable.

Not bothered what they are as long as I can run them ok with brakes.

Great news, the tubs bit doesnt bother me, looks a simple enough system.

I doubt I will ride it myself for ages, my pal seems to be doing more riding on the £5 bike than I get to do on muti ££££ MTB’s..

Off now to check out Campag skewers and tubs on fleabay.

Will be a great additiond to the old Raleigh, in the words of the really old bloke in the pub, “a bikes not a bike without a bit of Campag on it”.

They appear to be almost new just been hanging up a long time, perfectly true and no loose anything, the tyres have inflated and holding air but look a bit perished.

So they are ceramic rims then, for use with brakes?

Guess I should try them on the bike, but a mate is currently using it to commute so his spare tube and patches is no use, and we need to get some spare tub type tryes, are they expensive?

I would like to use them rather than sell really.

2nd the n gear jumpstop… you already have the bashring, this will cure your dropping the chain…

My record was 13 dropped chains in a 1 hours race at Lotts Wood, bought the jump stop and bash and never dropped a chain since.

a11y will work fine on triple ring setups too if your experiencing trouble, though yours sounds like the front mech isnt set right.

yep, no problem, the 180 is getting a bit small but a 183 isnt going to hurt… beware the noggins that hold the floating bit to the centre can cause clearance issues, but a dremel on the adaptor sorts it.

But they do make a 185mm (I think)

I had put some cheapo ones in my XTR mech and they have outlasted the shimano ones by miles, I fancy the shiny bling, but was hoping to justify it to myself first!!

I hadnt realised there was 2 types to be honest..

The gel worked for me, I didnt believe it would, I wasnt convinced it was inflamed, but it did get me enough movement to ride… I truly believe the improvment since then has been directly due to riding more in my case.

Truth is it could be any one of hundreds of things, the GP’s are good, but you need that specialist appointment to really find out, if it can be cured by a physio he will tell you that, they dont do ops they dont have too. (disclaimer)

Do you want new shiny, light, stiff, easy servicing, long life, and happy to look outside of the norm?

Had x rays done about 2 months ago, 3 visits to the GP and am now finally reffered to a specialist, moderate to sever degenerative wear and tear showed in the X ray, I need an athroscopy to get it cleared out is my guess (and ive been here before lots of times) but am still waiting for the specialist visit, the ONE thing thats made it feel better is riding, I had 3 weeks where I couldnt get on the bike, then uncomfy for another 2-3 weeks or so, but ive since upped my riding to 2 times a week and the knee is about as good as its going to feel for now. Its not even locking up as much as it was.

If you can ride and its not killing you, ride, you will know when its borked.

Did you GP prescribe anti inflamatory gel? I found this did help ease it off.

Ha, Ha, I love it, I asked about alteratives to off the shelf milk about a month ago, as I was wondering about PVA adhesives etc, and I got shot down in flames for it…

So, through the inventiveness of the industrious few there isnt any need to buy any UST specific stuff at all, and still successfully run tubeless.. I might even give it a go.

You can make up a spacer to add preload (as mentioned), but go too far and the springs can get coilbound (also as mentioned)

If your between springs, and there is a spring per leg just run one of each.

So I’d need a Hope Pro II 135mm Std Q/R for a hardtail?

yep thats it… remember to have a look at what else is out there though might be another good cartridge bearing hub.. NC-17, Atomlab etc.

Who you buying the wheel off? If its CRC drop them a line to see what they have that might fit the bill with a reduced, er, bill !!!

You wont go wrong with the Hope mind.
