What is it with you and carrying stuff about on your bike BigDummy?

Mind you if chicks dig it… 🙂

I prefer a basket to a huge saddle bag myself.

Any as long as the diameter is right…. even that you can get away with a little change in dia like a 183 instead of a 180, but its better to have the right ones.

Full carbon Scott Genius. Too tall and the supension on the rear just felt plain weird, it was the shop owners own bike so was setup right too
Oh and had those dual control levers…

Going to be putting my 2nd headset in at the weekend and will drag it altogether using the forks, spacers and SFN like I did the last one. Didnt seem to harm the bearings last time…

Mind you its not a CK…. I borrowed the shops tool for that one..

no problems here… been a few more but cant recall them all.

I generally deal with those that post on the forum a bit, there does seem to be a few people who just trade bits in the classifeds without posting on anything, they make me a little more nervous to deal with.

    standouts are:-

luke webber (broke my own rule here but parts all A OK…)

OK, got it sussed now, measured it and its a 68mm, I wasnt sure if that dimension was a diameter or width of the BB shell, but it was obvious really!!

sfb, I will check that out, thanks all.

I resisted the first time I saw this thread, but the 2nd time is too much to bare…

Not my finest hour but it worked.

Ransos, OK I see now, looking at the bumf on CRC its a 113 recomended BB for this particular chainset, so I can measure the shell width/or dia later to be sure if its a 68mm OR 73mm and I should be able to order it all tomorrow.

Unless someone can say for sure on the BB width or dia is 68mm on an alloy Carrera frame?

Bash and N Gear here too, never drop a chain now…..

However, from posts on here about it am going to give an unramped chainring a go as mine is due a change anyhow. Would love to do without the bashring as mine is an unsightly looking thing…

Jamie, that site is talking about road riding surely, under 3000 on that.

I booked into he 121k but when I realised it was going to take me 8hours I took the 100k split, great days riding, pretty tired today.

Straightliner, was you on a white On One rigid with flat pedals? Was the only SS I saw, and was chatting for a while..

Imanaged to miss a marker and added a few K’s on myself..

Are there any results due to come out at all?

Nah, an n gear jump stop and cheapo bash ring weigh next to nothing.. see thesurfbus’s post saved him 400g… nearly a 1lb.

Ive not tried the unramped front ring as yet but if the longer teeth work as has been sugested it might be good.

1×9 makes you push harder on the climbs i find, kinda like the way SS does, but just a bit extra flexability..

PP, you might want to pack some of those plasters specific for blisters, probably wont suffer quite so bad on a Pitch but I got blistered hands pretty much first day on my 120mm travel stumpjumper, mind you I probably hit Plenney run 10 times that day…

(disclaimer) might have been said already but cant read through 3 pages of sutff…

Your only nine stone, why saddle yourself with all the weight of an overbuilt frame and kit, unless your intending to drop off the roof of your house (a lot), overfork an XC frame to slacken it up and enjoy a lighter bike, should be able to find a frame up for the job thats under 4lb & not made of steel….. But if you gotta have it, overfork and Inbred, they can take 120mm forks anyhow, spend the money saved on going riding somewhere nice.

A 456 etc will be overkill at your weight.

Yep, I hope it does get a good home….. The wife has decided that as well as comandeering my Raleigh Chopper for ice cream runs out with the kids, that she would also like an MTB so the proceeds are going into a little MTB build for her…

mrsflash, I think it would be really, I have now listed it on ebay so I cant sell it through the classifieds, going to take my chances.

Large418 it could well be, its been made using original tooling for something, I am guessing from europe, i havent done much digging to find out exactly what make of bike it once was, shame they didnt use the correct name in the way they did the Enfield bullets they make there that were 50s Royal Enfields.

My favorite biking rant is crash helmets, £30-100 no trouble, Lidl £8.99 same construction technique, same part count, SAME SAFETY TEST (EN1078), & the Lidl is better ventilated than the Xen (have both), just a shame the Lidl doesnt look as nice.

What the fudge is it with you blokes and steel, why do you want to build a hartail that weighs as much as a full sus? (ok, well 1lb more than an alloy frame)

1.5k is massive budget, go ride as many bikes as you can get a test on, see what you like and what you dont whittle it down from there.

I understand you dont fancy building one up, BUT, for that money you could build a Ti hardtail with nice spec if you bought the frame 2nd hand.

mmm, I would think twice about Penhydd myself its got a pretty long firetrack climb to start with, worth the effort but might be sould destroying for a nipper. How about Chicksands? got lots to play on and a short XC loop, not a weekend destination but in driving distance for a nice day out from Norfolk…
