It worked last week OK, but even if I pull up an old thread with my images on it, they are now not working.

    I questioned myself too!!

At least its not just me then.

Bin the gyro thing and fit a full length cable… I tried for ages to set up my nephews bike when it was new, the gyro things seem at best rubbish.

Well under the requirement, bathroom scales say 22lb but that could be a big fat lie.

Polarisandy, I was first on this thread to suggest requesting a referral, I would like to point out I did not ever say “demand”, I cannot speak on Spankmonkeys behalf only my own recent findings.

I have had a long and painful history of knee problems from the age of 18 (now 42) I have so far had 2 arthroscopies, 1 ligament reconstruction, and a completely dislocated knee. (the whole thing not the kneecap) when I went to my GP in Feb, I could barely walk on it, I hadn’t hit it, knocked it nor twisted it, I was in a place I had been before, I had a loose or foreign body in the joint causing locking, inflammation and pain, I needed to be referred to a specialist to remove this foreign body by another arthroscopy, it took a further month or more and 2 more visits to the GP at that point I was not demanding, but firmly set on getting referred to an orthopedic surgeon, and I got my referral, in the meantime the body has moved to the outside of the joint and I have a marble sized floating bit on the side of my knee, on occasion this does still slip into the joint and cause me problems, its now June and I finally get the marble removed next Tuesday. With my history I don’t believe I should have had to see the GP so often. 3 different GP’s at that, as you rarely see the same Dr at my practice.

Spankmonkey is in pain, and concerned for his health, and quite rightly so, its his wish to be seen by a specialist of some kind and it should also be his right, he has tried the suggestions of his GP and things are not improving, they are getting worse.

Perhaps you could give him advice on how to approach the subject of referral with his GP?

will, but what about a high end fork with all the bells and whistles, that is only marginally heavier BUT with a massively increased lifespan and service intervals?

    I would buy into that.

That said I run Maverick forks, dont really do any maintenance, but am comfortable in the knowlege, when they do need it, its a DIY job. So I guess I already have bought into it.

Spankmonkey, I had the same with a knee problem, I knew it needed an athroscopy (had 2 before years back), 3 visits to the GP various bits of advice, I finally just asked for the referal, GP cant refuse to refer you however they do seem reluctant.

I get my athroscopy next week.

Be direct, tell the GP to refer you to a specialist… what kind of specialist I have no idea.

    Good Luck.

Yup Tora’s and a few cheaper forks have chrome but I doubt its hardchrome, that usually has a ground finish to it, but the steel stanchions its on is part of the weight penalty. A quick Google has revealed its not possible to apply it to the ally of higher end forks.

I don’t suppose this is a definitive answer but:-

    http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?p=331061

It would be possible to have great forks & that last, but with that extra weight, I don’t know of any made that way though, but right now the more expensive and better performing stuff has anodizing.

On this topic is it possible to hard chrome the stanchions of MTB forks?

Not sure why anodizing is used instead of a hardchrome finish.

MX Bike stanchions dont disintegrate at the first sign of a bit of grit, the seals go but not the expensive bits (usually).

you want your knee joint positioned vertically over the ball of your forward foot when the pedals are in the 3 and 9 position

    That’s nonsense

Its only a rule of thumb, its a bio mechanics point of view, we all have very different in torso/limb lengths so its not a definate. Just a decent place to start if you are experiencing, problems with your body, or control on the bike.

I check the local paper constantly and have a look down the tip on a regular basis for just that sort of thing.. You must have done something good recently.

Been a few threads recently on home brew wheel milk and how to make it better at sealing, or longer lasting depending on your preference/needs. Might be worth a google.

Yep it sure would, cost is prohibitive though, bumf for SLX recons on extra sping tension, would have really liked a shorter cage but this will do.

I am really impressed with the shadow type mech, I thought it was change for changes sake but it sure does work well.

Could the crank arm that comes loose a lot now be knackered?

But as said, could be about anything, its summer, both my bikes are developing creaks here and there, deing dry isnt good for everything.

Last weekend I had to remove seat and grease rails on one bike, and the same for bothe bikes stems and shims and bars to stop creaks. then I got a brand new creak out last night!

Alpin, now that is what I call a stem!!

Where was you on my “guady anodizing” thread the other day, I got slaughtered!

    tinsy

I have ran a few differnt length stems, tried longer, tried shorter, running something about in the middle now, really depends on what your riding and where, and I have never felt it make or break a bike to be honest, certainly not the monumental changes some seem to sugest it makes.

Give it a go and see what you like..

Would imagine the Rockhopper isnt too far off the mark at 100mm and 50mm does sound like a big drop, if you could borrow a couple of stems it might help, or buy something very cheap, bought a great 40mm stem to shorten up a bike for my girl the other week for a £12 off ebay brand new. Light, ally and 4 bolt.

If its dry weather fast XC tyres the specialized Fast Trak’s are worth a look, been very happy with mine and cope much better than expeected when its soft going as a bonus, also nice to see the small block 8’s get decent reviews as I just bought a pair off the classifieds to try as my Fast traks are all but worn out. Spesh tyres have the benefit of being quite reasonable price too…

Yup sould have no worries getting up to 2 bikes and kit for a weekend away in a CLK, I had the older model and it was no trouble, the seats fold flat into the cabin.

1 bike went into the boot without dropping the seats if you on your own.

Got a newer C class estate now and to be honest its not much difference in load capicity, my old shape CLK was huge though.

edit I thought they all had folding seats, my 2002 old shape did, would be suprised if the next model didnt)

Put some of that grease on the cam of the QR, and inside the clamp bit too, be amazed how much tighter you can do up the QR when its lubed up.
