Kojak, yes try the Spesh box, it was certainly a lot better than the otherone I had… The little plastic braces stumpy is on about is a very good idea.

This type of strap is the one to go for, not the ones with hooks, and I use mine for all sorts all year around so worth having about.

If I wasnt so tight I guess I would have bought a dedicated bike carrying bag or box, but it can be done in reasonable safety the pikey way.

(I secretly hanker to try bar ends, but would probably try them on my risers(not 75mm risers though!))

Nice, just spray the seatpost it looks a nice quality one.

I would need 75mm rise bars on it though..

Not all carboard bike boxes are the same, I travelled twice, once with a specialized bike box, that was very sturdy and once with a BH bike box, that wasnt so sturdy and took some reinforcing with duct tape..

2 big advantages on using a carboard box, A) its free, B) it doesnt get in your way the next 50 weeks when your not travelling.

Depends on what bike your putting in it as to wether your going to go over your weight limit, I also put my pads and as much kit in the bike box as possible to help pad the bike out a bit, but another school of thought is to keep your kit seperate in case the box doesnt show up.

Some remove discs off the wheels too but I didnt bother with that and had no problems.

Take care packing it get a decent cardboard box and you shouldnt have too many problems.

Another tip is to put some tie down straps around the box to help you move it about. (if I get chance to travel again I might even fashion some kind of castor on the bottom so it rolled)

Check in is no problem, it doesnt go through the normal check in, they will direct you to an oversized luggage place and take it from you there.

    Free Box.
    Big roll of duct tape.
    Tie down straps.

Mavic site has all the answers, but if you mean the old 317 from before the designations of each rim changed about 3-4 years ago, the old 317 is todays 717…

Yup fashion…. my Raleigh Pursuit was a fiver from my tip, thats plenty to spend on a road bike in my opinion. 2 new tubes and tyres, and it was away.
My mate commuted on it for a year and now my nephew has it, I put an old saddle and some new bar tape on it for him this this weekend, and adjusted the BB and cones and its good to go again.

    Tip fresh.

Now I wouldnt give advice on aches and pains, as its not something that can be diagnosed over the net, you need to see your doctor.

That said, I had almost exactly those symptoms in about feb this year, also after a massive day ride in Afan in the snow, and something had broke loose in my knee and caused inflamation and it took some forced time off the bike before it felt better, eventually a marble sized loose bit worked its way out of the joint a was on the side of the knee, it was quite comfy then, I had an athroscopy last tuesday to remove marble, good news is I went out for a nice gentle ride on Sunday (swapped to flat pedals though) and have no pain even with the stiches still in….

Your symtoms are the same, I could run up stairs but couldnt come down them, I still doubt you have the same issue and reccomend you go through the usal procedure of going to your doctor.

High maintenance them pedals, have to be stripped and greased often then they last better, still dont think they are as easy to clip into as a 520 though… Got a cheap set of low spec ones off here and rebuilt the ti ones back into working order using the new pedal bodies.

Pwew I thought I was bad, some of you make me look frugal..

2nd the Chris Kind headset as an expensive uneeded purchase.

Xpedo ti pedals, even at half price was double there true worth.

But my most stupid was a £45 chain because it was in a sale and gold coloured!!

Cant even imagine what your after from a set of brakes, I got some old style XTR’s on mine, been on for about 6-8 months on old 525 levers and they are great, nice looking, light and as much power as the M4’s on my other bike.

Gotta keep an eye out down the tip stooo, picked up a Raleigh Pursuit last year for a fiver, a pal of mine has been commuting on it for a year for the price of a pair of tyres and tubes.

Nah had a mono 6 200 and something on my black and gold M4’s no problem, disc is the same thickness, just a slightly different depth of braking surface.

Speshpaul, have you had a shaddow mech before? I just swapped to one myself, lovely and quiet they are.

You can loop the cable right around the bolt so the loose end points away from the spokes though.

my knees are fecked, got shimano SPD’s and never had an unclipping problem when I crash, what do you mean multi release?

I got 520’s or xpedo depending on bike.. are they multi release?

Had an athroscopy on Tuesday and expecting to go for a very gentle poodle about on sunday, but will put flats on for that.

Is it a 29 front wheel or the angle the pic is taken?

    Rigid no more mind you.

I only had full suss or no suss with carbon RC31’s for ages, was very nice with the rigids, I think stuff like flowing woodsy singletrack was even better rigid as it doesnt compress in the turns, obviously the rougher it gets the more limited it is, but EVERYTHING is doable rigid.

I had some steel rigid jump forks on my bike before the RC31’s the difference in comfort between the 2 was substantial..

i have now swapped to sus forks mind you and I like that too…

Am in the market for some super cheap Marz MX comps or such like if you sell your current forks.

Could you extend the peak on what you have with duct tape or something? it might look a bit pony, but would keep the sun out of your eyes without being something to scrape your face off in the event of a crash…

jedi has it, dont worry about pushing yourself too hard, scaring yourself would be counter productive, do what you can do & enjoy yourself.

I am loads faster when I am not going 100% and messing it all up.

    Slow down to go faster.

If your running a granny ring you need the ramped ring, Middleburn are good but just a plain old Deore ring will last as long (maybe longer) and shift as well (maybe better), could pop an LX/Hone one on if your really flush…

I just wore a middleburn hardcoat out, it served me well, but the 2nd hand LX one I popped on so I could get the last out of my chain and cassette shifts noticably better that the middleburn did.

Weight difference between the ally Middleburn ring and the steel deore is only a few gram’s..

I bought a Charge Ladle for the wife and it is a lot shorter than the mens Spoon… I dont understand why that would be better for women bits but can only assume they have done the research.
