I conclude you didnt read it properly, my hardtail was a 1×9, I did the 1 hour loop faster, but mainly cos I was angry and needed to blow off steam.

I love my Specialized agian so thats nice.

Conclusion is, all bikes are good.

edit… and having your bike stolen is awful.

yep thats the type I meant the endless ones, not the hook type.

Would having a tie down strap handy to loop around the frame in different ways give you a few more carrying options and handholds on the bike?

I only know what I have seen of him on this tour, but he certainly had it yesterday, that was some display.

Still think he has some kind of wandering eye problem though..

ah, I edited my post above…. no good to you as you already have cranks, but worth considering if you ever change.

Thats all the versatility of a King BB with a free crankset thrown in..

Stoner do you run a triple or double ring setup?

Anyhow FWIW if anyone fancies a good SS or 1×9 crankset you could do a lot worse than going for a roadie Campag crank, the external BB are fully serviceable in about 10 mins for a bearing re grease, and the bearings should you be too lazy to grease em are availiable for £20 off most on line shops. The 34t ring on the compact set is unrampped and very durable and then should you kill that off, Middleburn stock new ones if you fancied.

Those Ti 456's weigh in a fair bit less than my guess then, what with the free forks deal that must also make them the cheapest Ti frame out there by a long margin.

I look forward to seeing the Ti XC…

I tried it with my old Tinbred, (yeah I know where it was made, but british design at least), I had a tried for English speaking built stuff, like Maverick forks, lots of Thompson, King, Hope, Answer, I lost my way at cranks and used a Campag (one of the best moves I made as it happens) but I really got stuck with the gears as I had been so happy with Shimano stuff I found it hard to move away there, and the brakes ended up Shimano too as a cost thing XTR as a £60 quid upgrade from 525's was hard to resist.
Oh and I had a Superstar carbon seatpost cos it was ace.

edit.. surely you could/should build a Russian bike given your name?

    The glasses are excellent value.

I think we are lucky they are both on the same team, when it does come to crunch time, it will be those 2 against each other, if they were on differnt teams I dont think the bunfight would be as interesting.

Its probably best not to forget there are lots of other riders still with a shout, who knows what could happen….

Not a personal experience, but my mate had a pretty used drive train he wanted to extend the life of, and went for one of the cheapo KMC chains, he is a big old pedal mashing lump.

It was fine, he was shocked, I was shocked, but it lasted well.

I had a tried Shaddow mech on my hardtail and I couldnt work out why they bothered to have a new design and then I knicked it off my wifes bike for a try and it was lovely, so she got my XTR and I was happy to have the cheaper SLX, Shaddows are really quiet as the mech itself cant contact the chainstay like a normal one… Reccomended if your buying a new one anyhow.

short cage 1 front ring. (maybe 2 a roadie cassette)
    Medium cage 2 front rings..
    Long cage 3 front rings…

Though you can use a medium on a triple ring setup if dont ever go big ring, big ring.

You need to be sure of things like seatpost size, seatclamp size, front mech size, top or bottom pull front mech, headtube length, BB width, and a few other variables if your going to swap all your bits over painlessly. Get this wrong and its adds a lot of money to what sounded like a simple frame swap.

Add to that bars and stem, cos would be supprised if what you have is less than 100mm, the bikes your looking at run shorter stems and high rise bars (usually) MAYBE you could buy them now and try em on your XTC??

Not trying to persuade you in eny direction, BUT you would be supprised how different bars, stem would feel on what you have let alone changing expensive stuff like the forks, could be worth a shot.

do you have the alloy XTC?

If so, you could pop 120mm forks on it, that would slacken it up, pop high rise bars on it, and then you got a fun and still nice and light bike.

psychle, yep you need to get flat checked that your insurance freindly.

Right and listen to this bit, take pictures of your bikes, make sure you got the frame numbers, and anything easily identifiable (spelling) all in pictures.

Yes also do the chain thing.

All doable on a HT, lots of people do….

I would take my full sus on a trip like that though… not that I got a choice any more 😥

your door lock requiremnts will be in you home insurance schedule, and if you can maintain a mountain bike you can probably fit a door lock…

its usually a 5 lever mortice lock that you need, thats the type with the big old fashioned looking key, and all windows will also need to be lockable, thats the min to get you insurance freindly, and to be honest for your own piece of mind..

I learnt all this last year when I got burgled…. and you have probably seen my shed just got done.

I am assuming quite a bit, but its a big burley bike for big burly hits, am not saying its overbuilt just that its well built to take the forks and hits its designed for… Its certainly not a race wippet, and the new bike sounds from the little we know to be just that.

From the on One site about the Ti XC

Lynskey did a 10/10 job on the On-One 456 so we decided to let them build the lightest Race frame they could!

No, the new Ti XC frame isnt an overlap with the 456 if it was taken from todays Inbred yes there is an overlap as they both take 120mm forks, from the little on the site about the new Ti XC its going to go back to early 80-100mm adjusted guise.

Todays Inbred and the 456 definately do have an overlap.

I dont know what the Ti 456 weighs in at but must be 4lb plus in 18" my old tinbred was 3.5lb, so as this ones criteria is to be built light, so maybe we can expect 3-3.5lb for the new frame?

    Obviously all just guess work.

er that is the right way up, shocks up the other way look odd… but usually done for clearance reasons as stated…

Also in my opinion with it that way up (skinny bit down) it the lube in the air can stays around the seal, that has to be better right?
