I am just swapping but only ever get to ride locally these days, wich on the whole is pretty tame, will give it a week or 2 before I sell the sus frame… If I was still able to get to Wales/alps regulary I would keep the susser though.

mmmmm, a set of fishing scales has just landed on my desk to weigh this weekends new bike build when its done…. Been trying to get my mate Lard's weight off him to work out his % on his 27/8lb full susser but he is being very coy about it… 🙂

very nice, but its still very arse up head down in my opinion, so god knows what your other bikes have been like, pop all them spacers under the stem if your doing lots of going down…

It would be a waste to use a different BB on the campag stuff..and as clubber says it might not fit the same.

ps the compact comes with a 34t

digs out tired old photo of lovely looking road cranks the the MTB again.

These are flipping ace, the BB can be stripped and re greased in 10 mins, and if you do forget that and bork the bearings they are availiable from most campag stockists for about £20 for the bearings. A better extrenal BB than dedicated MTB stuff by a long way. Shame some fudge packer nicked my bike really.

If you see my bike for sale let me know.

robdob, does it happen a lot faster when your really trying, or just when bimbling along?

I get a bit of it in one foot but not the other, its because I do some weird toe curling thing when I am really pushing, like I am trying to grip with my feet or somthing, as soon as I back off I realize my toes are a bit numb but it shakes out straight away.

PP, maybe your doing the toe curling thing too in your normal shoes and flats, might be an involuntary thing as you normally used to your feet being attached??

andy m, with a wheel that close the slightest bit of mud, and a bit of wheel flex thrown in and it will damage the stays. I did it to one bike but stopped using such fat rubber after 2 rides, all the paint had gone off the inside of the stays, it didnt rub in the car park but out riding it must have.

njee20 sorted what was what, with the reversing the wheel tip, frame is out of kilter..

I took mine appart for the first time last week, didnt change bearings, but can offer a little advice on re fitting the freehub, I held all the pawls in place on the freehub with a rubber band and inserted it into the hub and then just snap off the rubber band before pushing it home…

Phones, the radio, aircon, power windows, satnav, all take their toll on concentration and all legal, cars are full of things to take your mind and eyes off the road, but the worst thing I find is having passengers expecially 2 kids in the car. I have to make sure its all sorted & settled before I start off now, but I struggle getting my wife to do the same.

Its no joke driving, but most people seem so blaze about it and their own mortality.

First off I have to admit I dont own a 456 but have had a Tinbred and just going to build a scandal, as they both run 4 or 5 inch forks, it would seem a shame to run the 456 with less than the 6, get something with travel adjust of lock down if your worried about the front lifting on climbs….. Opinions vary.

Had a Shimano on the bike when i got it in 04, didnt make the first year, that was with zero maintenance mind you, replaced it with a Hope XC did its first service this week… 4 1/2 years before I even cleaned out the freehub, and it still didnt need new bearings.

Shimano seem good if your into fiddling about with it, if you just want it to survive neglect, pay a bit more. Thousands of different cartridge bearing hubs about, I have often thought there must be something else thats as good for less…. But its hard to argue with Hope ones.

Ferk me, thats going to be a long day!!! I would be a bit worried myself, as it would take me ages to whittle a canoe out of a tree for the water bits.

I hate this Friday thread… riding tonight on my same old route around Hadleigh Castle and area….. but tonight I got the added bonus of having to not use the middle ring as the new chain has rejected it…

Maybe another lap sunday if Iget lucky.

what race? I got 3 weeks until I take the Scandal for its first race too..Mud Sweat & Gears.

Just found out my frame wont be ready this weekend got to wait until next weekend for its pimp new colour to be finished. Damn, am itching to build it up now.

I really dont know how they handle with 100's or 120's or 130's for that matter am assuming the bike is similar to my stolen Tinbred and I only rode that as either rigid, or with the mav's on it, was fine either way. The Mavericks are going on as thats what I have on my donor full sus, and it will be a 1 bike do it all kind of thing so the longer fork should be fine. I do have alockdown if it wanders on the climbs, but the tinbred didnt so neither should this.

Anyhow you answered your own question, build it with the long fork on, get the others sent off then try them on in a couple of weeks.

Here I am,,,, hope to build mine up this weekend, will be running 125mm Marvericks, cos thats what I have…. The same type of fork worked fine on my Tinbred.

You got a choice why not try both sets, its not a load of agro to swap them is it.

Remember its not just the posts min insertion you gotta worry about though, the frame will have a min requirement too.

The min line on the post is a bit misleading as to what your frame might actually need…. My Spesh has a hole in the seat tube defining the min insertion of the seatpost and it has no bearing on the line marked on my seatpost.

Is it just the pads rocking in the calipers, could well have always been that way?

When you say retreived, do you mean after a theft?

When you need new stuff its nice to buy the best you can afford/justify, it doesnt make it more fun, but rubbish stuff ruins rides.

I do get a kick out of a bargain mind.

Its will have to be a charge saddle as it fits in with my budget, I need new grips for the new build anyhow so was contemplating a white saddle n grips, as there really isnt going to much black at all left on this bike, tyres, brakes and bars are black, but thats it…

I know white will look ace, I realize the grips will go off white… oh sod it… white spoon here I come!!!
(can always pop the black one on for the worst of the winter riding)

Ha ha, you are quite correct of course, I was kinda hoping someone would say the opposite though and that Charge saddles stay persil white…

I know the grips are going to darken up with death grip…
