When I advertized a set of RC31'S at half original price no one said OI Tinsy, theyre a bit cheap, just had 4 buyers queing within 10 mins…

Anything remotely cheap on there goes in seconds, and there is def a few people profiteering from it. (the forks went to good home I think though)

That said I also delt with a few exceptionally nice fella's when gathering bits for my wifes bike….

Only shame was it was knicked within a month, also make me worry about posting pics of nice bikes and dealing with addresses and stuff on here. (didnt worry me enough to stop hosting a pic of my new bike though, however I have taken Ton up on the offer of £5 an hour and pork pie gaurd duty offer). 🙂

    rorshach… nope everyone.

Guess I am going to have to cut up one of my white inner tubes to wrap around the stay. 🙂

The amalgamating tape is an idea, but will go black in next to no time cos of the rubbery finish, I thought Charge made one fozzy but cannot find it at all, and though cheap they are also pretty poo, general tape stuff is an idea but obviously I have thought of that.. got a black one off my specialized on it right now, and its probably the best stay pretector I have ever used.

was kinda hoping there was a real nice, easy clean vinyl with neoprene backing one out there.

Take bike with tubes to a small hill and roll down it see how far you go before stopping….. Take same bike without tubes but same tyre & pressure, roll down same hill see how far you go. Might want to do a few repeat runs get an average, and try the same on road and offroad see if you can quantify the Shwwalbewable site…

OK its not too scientific, but cant think of a better test without expensive equipment..

edit… be nice if the mags did it for us… hint hint.

No – I don't care quite that much

But that was the important bit, no?

Did you do any kind of rolling test when you swapped to ghetto? be interested to know if it rolled further for a given hill etc??

I am fully willing to be pointed at and told I am talking bowlocks though.

Not talking bollards, but not what the OP was about..

    yup.

OK let me explain – I am talking about having a tyre pumped up using my track pump with a tube in it, then taking the same tyre and doing a ghetto tubeless setup on the same wheel. 20 PSI in the tubeless setup feels like about 30-35 PSI did with the tubed setup.

Yep I get you and it cant…must be another variable somewhere..

Dunno grumm, if you have done a like for like, back to back test your in a better position than me… Does sound odd that the same tyre would have a difference you can notice by hand with or without tube, especially going the wrong way to your expectations. Perhaps your gauge isnt too accurate..

Theory of tubeless running lower pressure is that it doesnt have the tube in there to pinch flat, a dedicated UST tyre has a firmer carcass to it as well.

Check out the Shwalbe (spelling?) website it has a study on rolling resistance at lower pressures, it seems at some point the RR can reduce, running lower pressure and large volume tyres over something pumped up hard.

Yeah but there is less material not more in a tubeless setup – you would imagine having two layers of rubber would make the tubed setup stiffer.

Yes and no, the UST tyres are a bit heavier duty, take Spesh tyre or a conti supersonic & 100G tube and the tube type could have less rubber in it than a UST,, all depends on what your comparing as you have kind of hinted at in the OP.

Yup it will vary between tyres to an exetent, like if you was using a tyre on your bike with the same wall thickness as a car tyre, you could probably drop to 5psi…

yup had a bel air and swore by it, until I tried a charge spoon.

It was as dry as a bone around my loop last night, as soon as it gets sticky, pump will be in a plastic bag, the mudgaurd and crudgaurd will be on, and the saddle pack will be back on tonight.

Cobalt wheels would add too much ££££ to it!! (I guess you cant see the blue hope hubs too well in those pics)

    Not a very good pic..

jamie… I got the dx torch, its fine on the lid mounted with cable ties to keep it nice and low out of the way or lock block thing on the bars, if I was buying now it would be 2 DX bike lights though, and extend a cable so the battery pack goes in a backpack, though the torch is OK on the lid, if you just had a head unit it would be considerably lighter.

I get around my local loop OK with just the torch, if your really on a budget maybe 1 is enough.

If your running full length why not cheapest you can buy and just replace it once a year after winter? I am a convert to full length and its great, just trying some middleburn cable oilers out now too, should get years out of £5 cables now.

Yes it will fit easygirl, and that would be the max you need to worry about gearing… Samurai has the mot cost effective method..

mmm, I thought my stolen Tinbred was pretty bling, custom polished, plenty of XTR, Campag cranks, anodized nipples, shiny carbon bits, and as many goldy looking bits as I could muster..

Hello Jimbo… great just a little fettling of the front mech, rides nice, seems to climb really well, shame I felt a bit ropey, not been out much or at all for a couple of weeks. Need to get another ride or two in before Mud Sweat and Gears. 🙂

Your right there Samurai, but last night I had to take it on a train in rush hour, had 2 manky Dahon folding bikes lent on it… I need a winter/commuter hack 😥

dunno, I just cable tied mine on so it sits nice and low and out of the way, took a little fettle to get the right angle.

they are huge… 200 and a 180, ideal for pootling through the local woods 🙂 all the stuff came off my full sus that was built to do just about anything so its pretty tried and tested most of it, just a few new bits that wasnt a direct swap.

Thompson stem but a USE alien post off the classifieds.

Just about to go for the first off road ride in a bit.

My new build has come in at 26lb using fishing scales, guess the donor full sus was 28lb not bad, as built with weight in mind but the defining thing on parts choice.

tails your right there, this is living indoors until the new (secure) shed is finished and the lock rings are set into the concrete!

Dunno if the oilers are overkill, right enough full length outers stay smooth for ages, but the oilers cant hurt.

Looking forward to getting the custom graphics (in blue obviously) on there.

I tried ridng trousers, only Altura Altitude ones, and to be honest if you are planning actully riding a lot in them I cant reccomend trousers, long tights with shorts over the the top for decency is way more comfortable when its cold and wet.

Gotta go on condition, if its mint then its way better than you can build for the same money even using jedi powers on ebay and the classifieds. (I know ive tried)

If its tired dont bother, if its mint then why not.

oh, and why is it 'cool' on this forum for the answer to this question to be HT??? i just don't get it.

Reason I am swapping its a lack of funds thing for me, having had my hardtail knicked (they fortunately left my full suss), cant afford to build a new bling hardtail from scratch as insurance money is being used to build a new bling workshop/shed instead, so just swapping all the stuff from sus to a hardtail frame.

The real answer is to have both horses for courses and all that.
