I read it the OP did NOT want big wheels. On an XS bike why would you?

I think as your not getting another mortgage you can keep it under the radar & just do it.

Why make it more complicated than it needs to be.

The whole thing makes me feel truly sick to the bottom of my stomach, in the same way the Fretzel thing, baby P & other atrocities have done in the past.

I would prefer the thread closed I can see no good in the discussion as it is.

Yeah at that price its straight to Halfords I am afraid, the ladies Vulcan is hard to beat at that price & enough for a lid & some shorts left over. (if your careful)

Hydro brakes, forks that work (kind of) the frame is actually a really good frame.

Ha Ha, I thought how bad can it be, so I popped over for a look, all the same issues as above.

Anyone noticed this, the image does not go with the description.

Sadly another one I have broken, takes ages to heal, as already mentioned make sure it has healed.

Something about that bone having a poor blood supply or something so healing is long winded.

Geraint Thomas rode through the Tour with a broken pelvis.

They have getting paid to race in common, its not really advisable though.

He did not start the X games thing, but he was there, & he was throwing these tricks mid race.

I used to race MX as soon as I got enough movement from whatever had been in a cast, you dont need to go too mad, you are nearly 2 weeks into healing from plating date, your winter is fine, autumn is looking quite rosey, your summer however is borked.

edit, 30 years on I have a lot of aches & pains though..

TINAS, I am not a Dr, BUT you need to wait for the bone to heal, the 4-5 weeks it was in a cast before is about how long it takes.

The pinning & plating is there to hold it together in the same way the cast would, but you have the advantage of your mobility back much sooner as the arm is still active.

In answer wait 4-5 weeks at least, maybe something fairly gentle before that but the crashing thing is a risk.

Singletrackmind, bear with me here I am only thinking aloud, now it seems changing the cups is easy enough, I wonder if standard shimano cups will fit in your hub, then its just a case of using normal size bearings & normal cones to match?

I quite like beet root juice.

And it turns my wee purple. Must try drinking it when eating Asparagus, that should be fun.

Make sure its Friday lunch & then stop for a pint on the way home to share this experience, see what the bloke next to you does.

I think we did our bit in the Victorian era, fortunately we now just get everything from China so now its down to them.

Agreed, just look at the bun fights kids bikes kick off & the difference in cost between the most expensive & cheapest is only £150…

    I love a nice watch. I love a nice bike. :-)

I would be quite interested on how far off KOP all the KOP doubters are, I doubt many are very far from it.

As a start point it has merit.

I am a bit confused by this comment OP

I think I probably still need to raise the saddle another 10-15mm, so I’ll try that tomorrow.

Thats part of setup is just so easy to sort out & there are no cinflicting arguments to saddle height at least, straight leg heel on pedal, pedal at furthest from saddle. Within about 5mm for personal preference thats it.

Yeah forgot Counts Customs, he seems like a nice bloke, always something going on for charity n stuff…

Yeah you will, you will go off too fast on the first laps, then calm down becuase you have no choice & just survive to the finish.

I think thats how most peoples first races go. I think mine were like that for years.

globalti, come on give us the link to the ebay bike…

5thElefant, yeah it was a huge leap, but I fancy twinshock racing, there is a pre 83 class for early mono bikes though.

    5thElefant, its a 1980, last of twinshock & last of aircooled 125 RM’s.

If you need any more bits the guy I brought it off is the go to man for early CR’s.

Nah, 2 stroke, lots of travel, & a bit old school.

Delivered last night at last, need to do a few things before first ride out though, she has been sat for best part of 30 years, engine strip proved all good inside though.

Now sporting a set of Ohlins on the rear.

Got to get some repro plastics to save originals, pair of Renthals, & a Doherty throttle & its good to go.

I had it on a bike I built for the Alps, for general riding about I cant see what you gain except a bit more clearance for log hopping.

I think I have have most configurations ss 1×9 2×9 but for general riding my bike about I am back to 3×9..

will dabble with 10 speed stuff one day I guess & perhaps go 2 rings at the front again then.

globalti, a good point, all old cars rust, even early fully galvanised ars are now getting rusty.

Throw in the odd river crossing & dumping a boat into the sea into the mix & its no supprise Landies are getting a bit rusty, good job Stoner is there to fix em.. (well one at least)

    tinsy

I often see old landies & wonder about them, sort of fancy one myself, well I did, then I watched that video, all the cheap ones must be axactly the same… For that reason I am out.

Keep the thread up though its nice to see one getting a decent makeover.

Its your money, its not about bigging the child up, but getting something that’s great, my little lad, is well, little, the bike is light, really light, like he can carry it about no problem out the door & down the steps if I am too slow getting ready.

On the top of ramps at the skate park he can easily stop with brakes that work first time every time, nothing rubs, nothing creaks, it just works.

The handlebars are especially cool, smaller diameter bars, smaller grips, levers with just the right reach, the cranks are their own, perfect length for the bike, the pedals too, a small version of a V8 in plastic, Kenda SB8 tyres.

    Did I mention its light?

The finish is really durable, but a few quids worth of heli tape does the whole bike, yeah it will get bruised its a bike like any other BUT its the best you can get.

The ISLA is lighter, but its much more expensive, and you will not always get the money back, my lad has already scratched his to pieces.

But that’s the Ridgeback, I guarantee you the finish is not as durable.

I do get it, he is 3 its a lot of cash, true he will have fun on anything, that’s not my point, its £200 of that some of will come back.
E.G, if someone came out with a fork & its reputation said its the best you can buy at £200 you would have already bought them.

Hora, honestly, look no further, you tried the balance bike on the cheap & bought twice, just pay the money & get the Isla.

    Ours is brilliant, utterly brilliant.

    Why teach yourself bad habits?

    SPDs have no place offroad.

    Yep, I said it.

… The world cup downhill guys seem to like them.

Shimanao 520’s are a great pedal, & cheap as already said.

They are good, but not for the feint hearted, if you’re the type that happily jumps on the kids skateboard for ride then they are for you, if not leave it to the kids… You probably won’t do this, you will be desperate to have a go, this is a good thing but be prepared to fall off.

The forks you metion are mostly pants, I would be looking for a set of old RS SID forks unless he is a big lad or doing lots of jumping then they will be nice & light & work well enough.
