Don’t they have loads of VW vans cheap over there? Might have to pay a little excess on the hand luggage though.
tinribzFree MemberJust get a novatec hub and aerotrack rim and build one. Or ask a shop to.
tinribzFree MemberPopulation growth is levelling off – increased urbanisation naturally reduces birth rates, as does increased education of women.
Yes in western countries population is in steep decline, at 1.5 fertility population could drop to nearly 10% current levels in 4 generations.
Africa on the other hand currently roughly the same population size is predicted to grow nearly 10 times to 10 billion.
tinribzFree MemberThere was one where they decided to go sober since it had been so long since they thought it would be a trip.
Each frame the pics got more detailed until it was practically photos, of three ill looking middle aged men dressed like tramps sitting in a run down apartment surrounded by filth.
They looked at each other in horror and made a grab for the stash of drugs on the table.
Never has a come down been so accurately portrayed. Sadly I imagine there will be some PC corrections to the modern version.
tinribzFree MemberI believe the 3.5mm on the Chromecast takes a Toslink mini for digital output. Run that to the optical input on a DAC of your choice.
This is what I do only the amp has its own dac too. And most of the time use a Google mini to control by voice.
Even if I use my phone unlike the blue tooth adapters chromecast will connect to google cloud direct and not waste phone battery.
The only problem with Google is it’s a pia transferring files to the cloud.
tinribzFree MemberThere will be two issues for quality, firstly the source files which is only an issue internet streaming so as long as the files are on the lan you good.
Second is the digital to analog conversion. Look at the size and price of a chromecast, I can’t see its inbuilt dac being fantastic, so I would not bother with the 3.5. There is no loss of quality over WiFi and through optical outs.
So get a decent dac if your stereo doesn’t have one and use a Nas like a small synology that can connect to your router. Any other WiFi device can use them too, dvd TV etc. which also have optical outs.
tinribzFree MemberAlways feel a bit worried loading up a Ti bike, too many mentions of cracks on here. Steel is best bet but would question the cost of a custom build unless you are a funny shape.
Saw some nice looking Condor bikes yesterday.

The new Ribble range looks good too. Wonder whether bolt through is available and useful on a tourer.
tinribzFree MemberGot a couple from Grizedale at Easter and did the green and black. Trails are a bit tame mainly fire roads but plenty long, the views were amazing and straight from the shop doorway. Plus there is a good cafe and Windermere is round the corner.
Bikes were hard tail scott aspect I think, bb motor 250w, plenty powerful and long battery. Free recharge if needed, would do again. Also found a full afternoon was long enough.
tinribzFree MemberTried to take a photo of a massive dragonfly hovering over these, but it was too quick.
This is the same spot a few weeks ago.
This guy put-putting along had me a bit jealous this aft:
tinribzFree Membersome times its just not worth the risk
What is the risk, have you calculated the odds for those two examples before deciding not to?
tinribzFree MemberLooks pretty good to me. Good chance Trump will be gone in a year, failing that a fair chance he won’t complete a second term.
Trump is way ahead in the polls and the opposition are in complete dissarray.
Someone mentioned the Overton window, Trump is middle America and has not moved, it’s the dems that are jumping head first into socialism.
He has done an splended job in putting their most radical fringe into the spotlight. They might be popular on Reddit but that’s not gonna win elections.
tinribzFree MemberStop looking up. That’s what does it for me.
Unlike on a flat bar bike I have to remind myself to keep my head down and stare just at the road rather than the scenery.
tinribzFree MemberBeen looking at some steel one this week. Fugi Jari 2.5 and 2.3 have nice geometry and are on offer at wiggle but seem a bit anvil.
Apart from the usual there is Marin Nicasio, Aventon Kijote, Vitus Substance.
Think I’m gonna go the frame only route.
tinribzFree MemberBetter off spending on a new amp with an integrated dac if the denon doesn’t have one, alot less fuss, and a mini toslink to toslink cable.

The 9010 got great reviews, but make sure it is the European model with optical inputs.
tinribzFree MemberWell they don’t make them like this anymore that’s for sure:
Highlander would be on my list too.
tinribzFree Member@tj did you just wake up form a coma you fell into in the 60s. Take a look around.
Re forecourts, this actually sums up much of today’s male privilidge, a victim complex.
tinribzFree MemberWhat if I said there was a country where 85% of the homeless are women, they are given longer prison sentences for the same crimes. 30% less go to university. They die younger and are injured more in their jobs.
You’d probably say that county had a problem.
An interesting perspective on male privilege from transgendered men:
I do notice that some women do expect me to acquiesce or concede to them more now: Let them speak first, let them board the bus first, let them sit down first, and so on. I also notice that in public spaces men are more collegial with me, which they express through verbal and nonverbal messages: head lifting when passing me on the sidewalk and using terms like “brother” and “boss man” to acknowledge me. As a former lesbian feminist, I was put off by the way that some women want to be treated by me, now that I am a man, because it violates a foundational belief I carry, which is that women are fully capable human beings who do not need men to acquiesce or concede to them.
What continues to strike me is the significant reduction in friendliness and kindness now extended to me in public spaces. It now feels as though I am on my own: No one, outside of family and close friends, is paying any attention to my well-being.
I can recall a moment where this difference hit home. A couple of years into my medical gender transition, I was traveling on a public bus early one weekend morning. There were six people on the bus, including me. One was a woman. She was talking on a mobile phone very loudly and remarked that “men are such a–holes.” I immediately looked up at her and then around at the other men. Not one had lifted his head to look at the woman or anyone else. The woman saw me look at her and then commented to the person she was speaking with about “some a–hole on the bus right now looking at me.”
tinribzFree MemberNot this again. Male privilege is a complete myth.
If you look at the facts women are far more privileged and pedalalised than men in Western society.
The fact some people are so blind to it and think the opposite is testiment to how deeply engrained women’s privilege actually is.
tinribzFree MemberI always fit cx chicken leg cross top brakes to my drop bar bikes.
Makes life alot easier especially in urban settings and not that hard to do.
Just means having to redo the bar tape, would recommend buying a fresh tape.
My Sunday bike is hydrolic so can’t and I really miss them on that.
tinribzFree MemberThis is what’s been keeping me fit lately.
Before:
During:
And after:
Although the wife says she was intercepted the other day by representatives of the Lollipop Guild.
tinribzFree MemberI got a full install of office for free (maybe £10 can’t remember) just because work has a 365 license.
Google ms office home use.
tinribzFree MemberAlso resting more at least 90 seconds between sets shows significant gains over less than 60.
If you want to keep up the pace do two body parts at the same time.
tinribzFree MemberIn my experience you can lose fat and gain muscle. Studies have shown it works for people that have not trained for a while.
All you have to do is minimise the carbs and max out on the chicken and fish.
tinribzFree MemberWickes used to have that self adhesive under and top felt. I did a garage roof with that on top of new marine ply a few years ago over a dry weekend. Fairly sure it worked out well under £500.
tinribzFree MemberChrome used to be great but has moved too far towards a tool to track you and manage targeted ads. Cookie collection at the expense of performance, plus privacy concerns.
Firefox is better option.
tinribzFree MemberPretty sure theres an app for that.
Measures your morning hr and tells you if you are over training. Someone on here mention it the other day.
Could have been this one : https://www.mpower-fitness.co.uk/how-to-use-an-app-to-track-overtraining-and-state-of-health/
tinribzFree MemberI’ve done the carradice thing, camper longflap etc but not really ideal for a laptop. Works best full of clothes and even then you have to leave the SQL thing on the bike which looks a little odd.
Also used one of those seat post Klickfix attachments to a bar bag, that worked pretty well as a day bag, but again might struggle with a laptop, this might work.
Its also not impossible to fit a rack with the right seatpost collar and p-clips. Just use some cheap panniers you dont mind having to replace ocasionally.
Or just go old school a get a front basket!
tinribzFree MemberNo additional packaging IME. Zero* emissions delivery system. Student employment opportunities. More cycles on the roads.
What’s not to like? Plus they mostly deliver from places that don’t /didnt deliver.
* I say zero but I guess they are only human!
tinribzFree MemberThat bike that is just a bit more expensive than you can afford.
That’s the right one. Always is.
tinribzFree MemberDig out the turf, edge with some fence posts and fill with some 20mm gravel. Job done.
Alternatively build a deck and put it on that.
tinribzFree MemberJust remember it’s not you it’s him.
Next time he’s coming across as bullying or intimidating ask what is really wrong, in a concerned way. Suggest going to have a private chat to talk it over and see if you can get to the bottom of the problem.
Is it likely he is stressed out about something and taking it out on others?
tinribzFree MemberCan’t you just use a wireless keyboard and mouse with a receiver on both?
I’ve some on a laptop and they work well. The monitor also picks up if it is either the laptop or pc turned on automatically. One is hdmi and one what ever those new ports are called.
tinribzFree MemberI’ve had an Allez and now own a Cube with discs. Discs will be slighly heavier, calipers easier to maintain. But discs have better performance in the wet and on long inclines.
So I would say it comes down to how hilly it is where you live and if you like to ride in the rain.
Also the Cube is more comfortable but the Allez was stiffer.
tinribzFree MemberFor felling trees axes are alot of fun. Chopping them up not so much, and that’s where the skill and danger is.
On the other hand Aldie had some cheap electric ones in, or could have been Screwfix.
tinribzFree MemberNo one is ever going to knock on your door for £70. I’ve ignored letters for these sort of amounts for the same reasons, companies making it impossible to cancel so I just stopped payment.
Their business plan is most people pay up based on scary letters so they carry on. They would never take it further because it’s not worth going to court for and they’d lose as you’ve not used their service.
tinribzFree MemberWell you probably wouldn’t find it on the BBC.
https://sputniknews.com/europe/201810101068751249-sweden-gdp-immigration/
https://uk.mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUKKCN1IK0EO
Even if immigration did help boost an economy that isn’t the point I was making. And anyway how does that help the OPs desire to help the rest of the world by the power of diversity?
England is less than 1% of the world population, Europe 10%? And rapidly heading to half that. Its also the most densely populated.
What about the countries they are coming from and their economies. What is the end game, should Europeans be shipped off round the world so the power of diversity can work its magic. That sounds more like colonialism. And should China and India do the same?
If you want to raise standards of living at global level there are ways, open borders isn’t one of them.
tinribzFree MemberAnyone who argues against the benefits of multicultural understanding and the collective drive to improve things for the whole I find completely unfathomable
Then you should do some research. The overwhelming evidence is homogeneous environments outperform mixed / multicultural in every respect from performance to happiness to crime to inequality.
tinribzFree MemberYork is under 2 hrs to KX but you’d need to live in cycle distance, ‘driving’ in York is a misnomer and not going to change anytime soon. There are plans for a big re-development round the station that includes residential, timescale unclear though.
Oh and Harrogate is a bit anti-cycling, big chunk of locals hated the Tour de France.
Prevous stop is Doncaster, hmm. Next as mentioned is Northallerton which has designs on a mini Harrogate. And getting to the station would be a lot easier.
What about Retford? Also on the mainline but never got off to have a gander.
tinribzFree MemberFirst off avoid laptop cpus, a laptop i7 is slower than a desktop i3.
Also with 6th gen i3s onwards you’d be lucky to get 15 – 20% more performance for 50% more cash. Although they’ve diluted the market with lots of new models lately to make it confusing.
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-8100T+%40+3.10GHz&id=3304
For silent look at fanless mini itx, but you wil still pay a bit of a premium for small size and quietness with an i3.
