Agreed, sounds like I was doing it the opposite way to you, I came up from Keld way clock-wise. Seems like more than a kilometer when you are feeling lost and rationing water.

I would honestly think about taking the road and heading back across because the path to that arrow is either non existant or unridable. Or allow plenty of time.

Anyone else get a creepy feeling up there?

    Lots of mine shafts too.

Heh, same here. Was up there about three weeks ago, there is not even a sheep trail to follow.

I zigzagged the non existant 'bridleway' with gps for about 3 or 4 miles carring my bike above heather till I hit a narrow path.

There were other non existant sections later on too.

The bridleway to Tan Hill was not too shabby though, few grass sections but easy to follow.

Would you not need a caliper brake too, and lever. And therefore be mis-matched onthe back?

    Mine arrived a couple of days ago, noticed that 'their' definition of TV equipment is now;

a TV set, digital box, DVD recorder, VHS recorder, computer, mobile phone, games console!

WTF, now they are the PC, phone and Wii gestapo too.

Predators[/url] – fantastic premise totally wasted on a bunch of slack jawed faggots.

Well actually it was probaly the director's fault for not being in anywhere near the same league as the whoever did the first one.

"Yes, but what's the exam question?"

    and

"It's not within my 'gift' to…" STFU!

are becoming annoyingly infectous at the moment, as is the word 'signage' which never really bothered me till someone else pointed it out as odd.

LA should have bowed out gracefully last year, at least he was on the podium. Sky have been looking smug/confident all week, just hope they can walk the walk.

Here is the short summary; 9 months should be plenty of trainig time – christmas, bad weather, illness = start training in March. Failed attempts at stopping smoking mean fitness not really worthy till May/June.

Been riding three times a week for 6 months but nothing more than two 1 hour sessions and a 25 miles off or 40 miles on road. Probably might be in with a chance of finishing if I was where I am now three months ago.

Did I mention I've stopped smoking… signing up was a motivation to keep trying. After 20 years that is a better result for me than winning.

I have zero chance of getting past 50m in the allocated time, so if anyone wants to buy and knows how to transfer an entry, email in profile.

1984, How win friends.., Irrationality The Enemy Within, I Robot / other Asimov, The Naked Ape.

Did an audio version of To Kill a Mocking bird recently, but it just read like a soap to me. What exactly did people get out of it to warrant mentioning it?

The LBS nearest my work has decent stock but charges RRP on every single thing, and proper takes the piss on labour.

For example a guy I know got charged £250 for a 'Gold' service on his rockhopper which involved 'cleaning', fitting a couple of mud guards and replacing some aging bits of the drive train – with Altus!

I have no idea how they manage it but there are always people dropping bikes off and picking them up when I'm in there browsing and sucking air though my teeth.

The Sword Of Alexander (aka Taitei no ken) is funny as hell, fairly recent.

Watch some of the classics like Seven Samuri & Yojimbo

About 3 months here after a year of trying to stop, what has suprised me most is I still feel like one sometimes even now. Never having managed more than a day I honestly thought 3, 4 days max and that would be the end of it.

Always have and still do find the smell appealing, even stinky ashtrays. Yes I can smell smokers at 30 yards now but it's not that unpleasant?

Will never smoke again though because I've no desire to go through that first couple of weeks ever again, not to mention the anger and depression stages that last even longer.

Now enjoying the instant extra 3mph average speed on the bike, hills, food, swimming & running, not constantly worrying about my health. Feeling smug in the presence of smokers.

Forest of Dean – Go Ape is a fun afternoon, and there are half a dozen other things you drive past that are great that way too e.g. Puzzlewood.

As above, science center, WSM beach, ice skating, Wookey Hole

Been riding mine about a year now. Don't understand the tarmac comment, they go like slicks ime.

Perfect for anything dry. Bit bouncy on big rocks and sketchy on deep gravel, but what isn't?

I read somewhere that a genetic predisposition to having lower resting heart rates correlates with lower testosterone levels, which correlates with smaller genitalia. Do you drive a BMW?

Take the lowest reading you can manage (just after you wake up), then the highest (on a hill as above).

    E.g 65 – 185 = 120

    85% = 120 * .85

    = 102

    65(resting) + 102 = 167

So to train at 85% aim for 167bpm

Lets see what happens when they try fiddling with the public sector pensions, they'll have to bring in the army to stop Osbourne being lynched. Mark my words.

It beggars belief but there are a lot of up themselves Tory Voters in the Civil Services who would grit their teeth and take pay freezes and cuts without wavering, but mention pensions…..rivers of blood.

As for the Lib Dems, no one is ever going to trust or vote for them ever again, they must know that by now?

    What's not to like?

In fact, if you don't like it, then you're just not a man!

How about the scene with Crixus's c_ock flapping about. Unless you're saying you are that type of man.

The flimsy excuses for nudity and sexual abuse are hilarious.

Was on about 6 – 8 a day for years, stuck to water at work because I knew >10 a day couldn't be healthy.

Stopped 7 weeks ago and switched to 3 or 4 mugs of green tea. Go to bed an hour earlier, wake up a hour earlier.

Ever since moods have been alternating between depression and anger fairly consistently.

Try the odd cuppa char now and again but it don't taste the same anymore, no desire to acquire it again, prefer the green and hint of grapefruit now. Packing in the 20 roll-ups a day may be a contributory factor.

After mucho pacing the kitchen went for a road ride EVEN THOUGH IT WAS RAINING!

Drunk on the sprit of rainy wreck-less-ness I also turned right instead of left at a junction on a whim that took me along a road I'd never been down before, WITHOUT A MAP!

All without body armour or SOS points.

If it is one of those square power sockets then I found that there are metal lugs bent over holding them in too, under the solder. — Just rip it out!

Rival groupset, planetx wheelset and an off-the-shelf steel frame from a UK builder. Probably have enough change for a pair of tyres.

Apparently my Boss can't travel first class anymore, which means I can't get free coffee if I travel with him. Boo fheckin hoo. On the upside chances of a redundancy pay-off are increasing.

I've put mini-vs on mine, never felt under-powered, or juddering. Problem I have is comfort on longer rides.

Been reading about the difference between audax and race geometry, race being designed for max comfort when peddling hard, aero, shorter wheel base for snappier power transfer? Not sure how rake effects things, cornering?

Audax designed for more upright position comfort at lower peddling intensity – presumably because your weight shifts differently.

Was OK on a road bike but now I'm getting behind knee pain after 30 road miles on the CX and recommended seat adjustments don't seem to help. Am left wondering if it is geometry and considering a road / audax frame instead.

How ironic, then, that much of the DoH overspend is due to much-vaunted private sector involvement (PFI, consultancy, IT etc) – largely because of dogmatic notions of "competition."

    So true, not just DoH.

10% budget cuts across the board where I am since before the election, the Directors are more worried than I've seen for a long time, heh. 'Management' consultants are finally getting thinner on the ground, but the IT contractors have burrowed themselves in deep.

Staff are not getting replaced even by local short term promotion. We've had one leave and another about to. From a team of 5 that's a big shortfall. It will be back to the days of waiting for someone to die to get promoted.

Yet despite the wealth of information available to anyone with a web browser and a rudimentary grasp of Google, people continue to give ACS:Law money. In the first 11 months of their scheme they collected an amazing £1,000,000 from these letters. How many cases went to court? Zero.

One day people will see this cash cow for what it is and stop feeding it. Hopefully that will be before we see our first flying pig.

Hamsterley is your best bet. Or head over Richmond way. Or Guisborough, or Carleton in Cleveland.

Some good road riding round there though.

While the HQ might be British didn't they get alot bigger relatively recently by just mopping up loads of smaller oil outfits? Meaning most of their operations are just remote foreign companies with a BP logo?

Does having a carbon frame mean you have to stick to the blue routes?

I find myself worrying about the steel hardtail on the red ones lately.
