First thing to check is seat height, generally too high = behind knee pain, too low = front knee pain. Also make sure seat is not too far forward or back (or frame too big / small). For seat height do the book in crotch thing against a wall with bare feet, measure to floor and x by .883 Then measure centre BB to top of seat, along post.

Next thing to look at angle of feet on pedals, should be straight forward. Knees should stay close to the top tube too, I was reading how there was a correlation between knee pain and twisting on the down stroke.

They might end up looking a funny angle but they are comfy and operational. They become a little like H-bars.

Have had a thinkpad for the last few years, it just wont die and still looks brand new. Is currently in Kubuntu mode. Had an Asus fall apart after a year and have seen friend’s Dells’ not last much longer either.

You sound like a size 56cm would fit to me, but the eTT seems a little long on those langsters. Also there is so much contradicting advice around these days about seat tube vs top tube, I reckon it best to sit on the bike and ask a knowledgeable shop guy.

I also have RM5s. Good balance of weight and strenth, and price.

I used to like how they were totally silent but recently (a year later) the free wheel has started to click, and it’s really loud! Anyone fixed that?

    A few brand new ones:

    Kona Kula Deluxe

    GT Zaskar Expert

    Rocky Vertex 30

The 90s rang, they want their bikes back.

The only HT I’m tempted by is a Blue Pig, they have one on special offer in my LBS but it’s too much like what I’ve got. Pick up an SLX groupset & wheels from merlin, then see whats left over for forks and bling.

Looks like a bargain find to me. Rival is arguably better than 105, it is certainly more expensive, and lighter although they swap the cranks on this model. Anyway a Ribble 105 is 800 GBP, while this one is 800 USD. 105 level treks etc are around the 1k mark.

Been looking at old lemonds and they would float my boat but a large (55cm in their money) seems to be impossible to get hold of. Any suggestions?

I’ve one that’s too small for me, a 55 I think, 853, powder coated, but there is an issue with the down tube cable holder things, like there is none. I use a band thing.

Email in profile if interested (frameset).

Maybe not as bad as I thought then.

I tried it with mini v’s and some halford V brake levers I had lying around. Worked fine. For shifters just some old MTB 9 speed LX stis.

Dogs! bloody luxury, last time I went up Hamsterly for every dog there were 3 prams, pushchairs, or toddlers. I even circumnavigated a wheel-chair.

And this is on the Red Route.

tinribz – just out of interest did you get a chance to weigh your frame before you built it up?

    Erm no,

    But here is another pic anyway;

Not bad, made it to the end which i don’t always, but then it was a bit abrupt. Also seems a bit of a waste having that beach local and not including it some how.

Was out riding a few weeks back on a hot day, passed some waterfalls and had a flashback of swimming in the very spot as a nipper. People used to come from miles to picnick there.

Only now it is all keep-outs and barbed wire. Turns out some nuvo with pretensions bought a detatched nearby, didn't like the sound of riff-raff anymore so bought up the river bank. The village shop lasted about 6 months.

The thing with the school is down to threats and risks of legal costs, some c*ck in our village and his solicitors had the parish council wetting their pantz for months with empty threats but the council solicitors are a waste of space. They cave in on anything because they don't know how to manage or assess risk properly.

    Wohoo!

    [/end thread hijack]

If I was getting a ti frame I'd go for more relaxed audax touring angles like the Youkon I guess, but they cost like twice £450?

I just ordered a carbon one if it is any help, am jumping the gun a bit but here is the latest:

Getting excited now hoping it might turn up tomorrow. I got it via 'carbonzone' on ebay but I beleive they are http://www.greatkeenbike.com who I thought also did Ti frames but there doesnt seem to be any on the website now.

I ping-ponged a fair few emails and they are helpful although the time diffence makes for slow progress. Tried to keep the English simple too. Paid via paypal, so far so good.

Try somethink different and a little bit cool like these:

    < £200, bargain.

OK they are from Honkers but I've seen alot of good reports about their frames. Give them a go, then report back!!

Went out at 9:18 (up north), was easily the brightest 'star' in the sky and passed across really fast West to East, inside a couple of minutes. Kids were impressed for a change.

Had some over a year now, still not had to replace the pads and done loads a miles inc a c2c. Bit squeeky in the wet and a pain to set up if you dont know how. But plenty of stopping power.

A few people I know at work moved up here cos it is so boring down South.

Where I live it is flat but I can see the Yorkshire Moors one way and the Yorkshire Dales the other. Can ride to either in under an hour.

    Wot you got?

Will the powder coaters blast it clean for me? Anything specific about powder coating steel?

    Yes, no.

Only thing to ask about is will they plug up the holes e.g the BB with a silicon bung for you cos it will make life alot easier or you if they do. Leave some screws half in the bottle holder holes too.

It takes about 5 minutes to plot a route on your PC from the map. Wots the problem with doing that then transferring it? Plus you will memorise some of it in the process.

Has certainly gotten better each episode. Was beginning to get a little bored of the same old sets but they put some good twists in there to mess with your head and keep it interesting. Xena and that blonde one, what a pair.

What so you nearly never got back before it was dark? The horror!

Did you not have a map on the GPS thingy anyway.

Sitting down doesn't work, for me there is always the fear of touching the bowl. Which sort of reminds me of that classic asian chick thread:

    I found this:

    Which looks pretty cool.

But as it took about 3 seconds to google I'd guess you found it already too. Thought the proper OS maps you are thinking off are very British, done by the army and stuff. Probably they don't do all the other countries?

As I understand it 10sp chainsets work fine with 9sp chains, and I would be almost certain trek use english thread BB's, and the HT BB would fit fine.

I'd be tempted to look at some of Chain Reaction's older stuff because they are silly prices, although you'd have to source a BB seperatly, (Merlin).

Cant see any difference with swimming or jogging, aerobics or the gym.

It's exercise and endorphin addiction. Only cycling has the added advantage of great views.

When I started out years ago it was mostly about the rush of going down hill, now it's the calories burnt going up.
