Part of the challenge is to find a circular route avoiding A roads, although it is easier than you might think once you get the OS map out. Suprisingly few cars bother to drive the long way round down the back roads.

f it’s rim weight your worried about, go for Halo Aerotracks – at-or-just-under 400g a pop and can be had on Ebay for about £20, or £30 retail (again, currently using these on a 700c disc bike and, despite the lack of eyelets, they have been absolutely fine, stiff and true for over a year)

    Like this:

XT hub, Swiss champ spokes, 29p each at Rose Bikes.

Kindles are OK for reading (snore) but a bit limited. If it is mostly gonna get used indoors then take a look at a ARNOVA ARNOVA10 G2 – assume it will run all the free android apps or the Kindle Fire?

System restore virus caused a melt down on an XP PC I was using last night. To get program files back had to change all folder settings in properties from hidden. Then did a proper system restore and a spybot scan. Doubt that is the end of it looks like a loada registry updates will be needed too.

From what I can tell road ones are just more expensive and more difficult to get in and out of. And added bonus the cleats make you walk like a duck.

For a home cinema type PC you want to be looking at a mini-ITX system, no fan noise:

    ebay linky

I would also be looking at the new AMD llano CPUs with a built in GPU, best multi-media value for price, if you can’t spec it yourself do a search for that.

I remember mine ending up making the whole thing if asked for help. Good idea though, might lead to some interesting Christmas presents too.

A new Kaffenback is nearly as versatile as Rat and rides more like a road bike. If you get a carbon fork and light weight wheels etc for summer you will only be looking at a 2lbs penalty compared to carbon bike. And there has to be a compromise somewhere.

Else splash out on a custom Yates or Jackson. Or maybe a cotic X or Uncle John. Have also often wondered about the viability of putting a rack on one of those steel Peugeot frames you see on ebay – probably not up for proper touring though.

Madison Flux Saddles are just re-branded Spoons but sell for 15 squid if you shop around. Most halfords have a tyre corner @5 pound each. Gooutdoors grips same price are best I’ve tried. Tesco cycle computer @ 15 with cadence and rear sensor. 15m cable outer on fleabay.

Can vouch for the halford’s ones working but it ain’t pretty. Would have prolly gone for the screfix ones if they’d been recommended.

Intel Core i3-2310M – good processor but not so great graphics

These ones are a bargain, and will run your games. But probbly take 20% longer to encode your video editings.

Might be worth looking at laptops with some of AMD’s new Llano CPUs. They have onboard ‘discrete’ graphics via a CPU with a built in Radeon GPU?

Supposed to be good for gaming and general accelerated graphics which covers most things these days even web browsing. Not so good on the ‘finding a million prime numbers’ tests the the Intels do well in.

Not sure how many are out in the price bracket you are looking at but they supposedly run more stable and use less power too.

You can check your echange for supplier equipment here:

    http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search

What is Local Loop Unbundling (LLU)?

Local Loop Unbundling is the process by which third party network operators are able to install equipment in to BT telephone exchanges in order to provide their own services without having to touch BT’s network. Only the copper pair from the exchange to the premises, which remains the property of BT, is used by the third party.

There is a guy at work who moaned about crippling speeds for months, spent hours on the phone to BT, downloaded dozens of anti-spyware programs, formatted his hardrive etc before calling out a PC repair woman who unplugged his router for ten mins and fixed the problem. Heh.

If your exchange is BT chances are even if you switch supplier you will just get the same line and just pay someone else for it.

Mine is Sky unlimited / BT, went down to <50k just yesterday for no good reason, left the router unplugged for 15 minutes and went back to usual 6Mb. Presumably got assigned a different IP on reconnection.

I have the road BB7s and they work best with flat bars. STIs are fine they just take a little more care setting up, seems to be less tolerance. Powerwise has seriously made me think about whether I need hydro for the mtb.

The Castle Bolton one is nearby, you could extend it easy enough Harkerside moor direction.

Don’t have much to add on WordPress (site looks good to me), but have a question about Kayaks. Am looking to take the plunge probaly next spring – family days out in the lakes, but have no experience. Will a sit-on be the best option or will I get bored of that real soon?

I booked-marked this not so long ago to try and sort the wheat from the chaff but not sure if laptop ones are different, there seems to be a few i3s of varying spec:

My fav are the ones that permanently sit in outside lane and are always in your blindspot when you come to a lorry. Or even better are the ones that think it’s clever to pull out one second before you do and box you in. I just pretend I can’t see them and swerve a little.

I would say the weight of the bike and the hills you want to ride up are most important. A touring crankset is generally a triple, infact some come with less than the usual 30 small ring you find on road triples. A compact is 35. Mine’s a triple with 26 42 and the outer replaced with a bash guard. Take a look at the stronglight.

Best idea is load up the mtb, try the steepest hill you can find and calulate the ratio[/url].

I use those shifters as bar end shifters with an XT mech if that helps, the indexing is the same, as are the cassettes. That price is outrageous though.

If you view source you’ll see the name of the theme and the slider plugin STW use. The theme looks custom and they prolly paid a lot for it. Slider is anythingSlider also customised.

If you want this level of customisation you are going to have to learn how or hire someone. But there are loads of nearly likes if you google, find one close and have a dabble in the code, it’s not that hard and there are lots of create your own theme tuts out there.

Seem to remember Freud had a thing or two to say about this:

At one and one-half years, the child enters the anal stage. With the advent of toilet training comes the child’s obsession with the erogenous zone of the anus and with the retention or expulsion of the feces. This represents a classic conflict between the id, which derives pleasure from expulsion of bodily wastes, and the ego and superego, which represent the practical and societal pressures to control the bodily functions. The child meets the conflict between the parent’s demands and the child’s desires and physical capabilities in one of two ways: Either he puts up a fight or he simply refuses to go. The child who wants to fight takes pleasure in excreting maliciously, perhaps just before or just after being placed on the toilet. If the parents are too lenient and the child manages to derive pleasure and success from this expulsion, it will result in the formation of an anal expulsive character. This character is generally messy, disorganized, reckless, careless, and defiant. Conversely, a child may opt to retain feces, thereby spiting his parents while enjoying the pleasurable pressure of the built-up feces on his intestine. If this tactic succeeds and the child is overindulged, he will develop into an anal retentive character. This character is neat, precise, orderly, careful, stingy, withholding, obstinate, meticulous, and passive-aggressive. The resolution of the anal stage, proper toilet training, permanently affects the individual propensities to possession and attitudes towards authority. This stage lasts from one and one-half to two years.

According to my extensive googlinging…. turbo is twice outdoor miles because there is no free wheeling. Also tests show 2 hours training a day has same effects 1 hour a day. Also… 3 times a week has same effect as 5-6 times a week, 6-7 times a week can actually be detrimental. And for 3 times a week, 3 days in a row or every other day makes no difference.
