Not 1and1. Get a cheap dell of ebay install ubuntu server and host it yourself. Takes about a Sunday afternoon to get up and running. Helps if you have a static IP from your ISP mind.

Edit – £200 pm! how big is ur website?

If your new to cycling makes sense to buy new preferably an LBS. They are much of a muchness at any price point, doesn’t mean anything just because it has a CB sticker on it.

    Defy looks good mind.

You only need one bike, the one you’re riding.

And for the next day, a different frame, a few wheels of suitable sizes, and lots of cabling.

    There’s an open source everything

Can’t me any harder then phpbb or OsCommerce to install, and if you cant do those or don’t know what they are you should be considering something else.

Can you get a tarif with no internet or MMS?

It’s inevitable they’ll need one, just check the history if ur worried. Find the GPS apps interesting for tracking their movements too.

12 is OK to nip to the shop imo. Am aware of neighbors doing same for 10 year old.

Am not sure there are any age specific laws, just ‘reasonable’ care.

I thought oilbased paint was effectively plastic. If it works for wood outdoors how bad can a shower be?

    Alternatively, perspex?

Probably more likely to be key salesman type words in the subject or body of your email.

Not a chromebook. See if you can find an i3 in your price range.

Dell seem to have put up their prices since chrimbo. This looks OK apart from w8 http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/asus-x501a-xx402h-15-6-ultrabook-white-20622593-pdt.html

I really enjoyed the Colin Farrell Total Recall. Thought it was much better than Arnie’s.

    What!

The only film CF hasn’t managed to ruin ([cough] Alexander, Miami vice ffs! [/cough]) is Horrible bosses, and that’s only because I never realised it was him. Let him off for In Bruges, but only because of the quality of the dialogue and other actors.

Girl with Dragon Tattoo – the one with Daniel Craig in but watched for Rooney Mara’s performance. Clubbed, District 9, The Eagle (had very low expectations), Wolverine, The Wrestler. Not many lately.

will prob listen to the music direct from the onkyo as it will stream music direct from NAS without the ps3 or telly being on.

I’ve a TX-8050 and found playback from a NAS was possible but jerky. Until I got a router with a built in media server (readyshare). Works a treat now, with just a USB HDD plugged into the router. So seemed to need some hardware pushing it out rather than just something to pull. That’s why I suggested the PS3 as a server. Playing from your phone works well too.

I’ve something similar to but notquite as good as this. Runs XBMC with vids from a USB HD, did work from a NAS too but found it sometimes struggled to connect.

Can use any app you care to download from the play store just like a phone or tablet, iplayer, DLNA server, youtube etc. Find it easier to use a cheap bluetooth mouse though. Has HDMI but no optical out on mine which might be better for music.

Sounds OK to me, you just have to set the PS3 to Audio Multi-Output. You should be able to browse the HD for music too if you network the Onkyo and set up a media server on the PS3.

Son and I did a half day course in the autumn as a first timers. Went to Surflines at Llanberis (think they shut for the winter though). All kit was included for about £40 and they drilled us on basic paddling, climbing in and out, safety etc. Dead simple, didn’t take long and they were really friendly. Tees Barrage sounds the best idea for more advanced stuff.

tinribz, how do you like the 2020’s

Very crisp, but don’t get a chance to turn up the volume very often. They certainly made some tannoys sound tinny in the shop. Still find I have to up the bass a touch sometimes though, should get a subwoofer really.

Does it have to be CS6? You can get Photoshop 7 for about 50 squids if you shop around. Bet you couldn’t tell the difference.

For best performance / value £100 on graphics card and £100 on CPU. If you’re not building it all yourself see how the off-the-shelf systems compare for those two items if bought separately.

This one is about that spec plus good motherboard, hdd & lots of ram:

    Windows included but no monitor.

Suspect anything will be an improvement on a 6 year old laptop. But you can pay 300 – 3k, what’s the budget? There will be best choices based on that.

There’s a traffic free cycle route from the center to the airport, but it’s not exactly challenging. 10 mins up the A66 to Barningham is a good place to start off-road. Or look to the East, Guisbrough Woods, Wynyard & Carlton Bank.

Most of the local bridleways are patchy, short and or linear. There’s a small ridable loop near Newton Morrell, but just farm tracks.

As mentioned, best bet is get a road bike and head for Barnard Castle or Richmond Moors down the back roads.

Do you need lots of extra peripherals

Maplins do a deal with a compatible keyboard, mouse, wifi dongle and usb hub to power it, plus all the cables (inc hdmi) and an SD card with linux pre-installed. But that all adds up £s.

Realistically for starters you just need a usb cable for power and the SD card. Hook it up to the network and you can open a terminal remotely from any pc / laptop with putty and start installing stuff, which is kinda cool in itself. Install tightVNC and you can even launch the desktop.

Read a book by / about Henri Cartier-Bresson recently. The short version is he trained as a classical painter then picked up a camera. Point was Artists spend most of their life mastering composition.

If there was a parade he wouldn’t just turn up and start snapping. He’d scout the area days before, track down the perfect spot, then sit there for hours usually up a ladder, waiting for something interesting to happen.

Tis a bit more complex than the rule of thirds but learning about fine art composition is a good place to start.

ThinkPad X201 i5. Fast, compact, build quality is in a different league to the likes of Dell.

Picked one up for under <300 the other day.

The site wouldn’t take a debit card so the sister in-law paid for it. That’s all the info I have…
