    Bout 2pm today.

With the nights drawing in can’t go as far so thought I’d try a shortcut to save having to double back. But what started as a rather splendid freshly tarmacked ribbon quickly degenerated. MTB next time.

    For next week wadabout trains?

Ride with sOmeone just slightly faster than you. You will both improve

    Eh!!!?

I love all these vague ‘just ride a lot’ or ‘ride a bit faster’ comments.

Follow a training plan. Google ‘century training plan’, read a few and see what they have in common.

Having a someone in a car ‘supporting’ you seems to defeat the object to me. A guy I did one with once suggested shuttling two cars all along the route. May as well ride a local 10 mile loop 20 times if your that needy.

Getting the train even if you have to stagger that or spend an extra first night is the best option.

    Which mission was that then?

    😯

Israel won’t help the rebels for the same reason the UK and US won’t (and were never gonna), most of them are al qaeda, if you believe the latest media hysteria.

This thread is too light on pictures, we need more pics, or I’ll be forced to start posting repeats of my swap-out version.

Moving the seat forward solved my knee issues via an inline seat post. Also cleats further back or flats.

What are your gears front and back?

Two short rides (or turbo) a week (min 45mins), for the first one time yourself then try to beat the last time each week. Second one, ride fast 3 mins till your legs hurt, then take it easy 3 mins, repeat. One longer ride a week, just increase the distance 10% each time.

Keep a record and see how you’re averages improve over the first 12 weeks. Drink a lot while riding.

    Edit – or running.

Bought one of their inline posts, unbranded, just the other day. Arrived a lot quicker than expected. Seems spot on, so I ordered one of their stems to match.

That was on the road mike mind, not sure I’d put a carbon one on the MTB.

Mathematically – the industry is worth about 80B to the UK, but subsidies are only about 2B or 3B.

Morally – The third world would export all their food to Europe for better prices leaving the locals to starve.

Not sure bike production would result in similar consequences.

What’s the point of the subsidy? Why not pay the actual price at point of purchase.

Is it simply a case of remaining competitive with cheaper imports as it appears to be?

Yes its about staying competitive but other consequences too. Food prices wouldn’t go up it would just get imported and uk farmers would go out of business. There’s a massive secondary agri industry, rural jobs are the most difficult to replace, land would go to rack and ruin, imported food of questionable quality and husbandry, money spent on food (think how much) going straight out the country. Also politically not being able to feed ourselves (or regulate) was/is considered a scary prospect.

Subsidies started as buying produce(remember butter mountains and wine lakes) and paying per head maintained to artificially raise prices. Result not surprisingly was increased production and vicious circle. Now they just finished the transition to area based under the provision you farm sustainably (if you want to) but always maintain land in good condition. A large proportion is also given in grants for diversifying or organic and the like.

Re dairy, don’t know much about that but I always thought a quota was a limiter. You don’t get subsidy for it, rather you get a levy unless you have a quota. Would guess dairy farmers make cash & subsidy from selling the calves that keep the mothers milking. The horror of it all.

Well I think Nona looks very pretty. Like the forks, maybe a red grips to match the forks and a white seat to finish the Burberry look.

    Borg: One of twentynine
    Klingon: Nona

Just did a Coast 2 Coast on a Kaff with saddlebag, no complaints could easily handle more weight.

For lejog I would be looking for light as possible, seeing as Genesis is so popular recently reckon I’d consider the Equilibrium frameset. Or for another steel alternative Ribble Winter/Audax 525 Frame?

What’s the plumb line knee thingy then?

To see how far forward your knee is over the pedale spindle.

I’d a similar experience, all they did was raise the saddle when I said the front of my knee hurt, plus a few derisory comments about my unbranded Chinese frame. Result was pain at the back of the knee.

Get what you pay for like anything else.

As mentioned, mini sun / fusion, they are building a powerstation or a prototye anyway in France: http://www.theguardian.com/science/2012/sep/16/nuclear-fusion-iter-jet-forshaw

Or mirrors in space, that would work but would probably get skyjacked by the Koreans and used to blow up the White-house.

What ever happened to Irish perpetual motion with magnets machine? I wonder what the maths add up like for self sufficiency growing biofuel? I reckon the only thing holding that back is the oil companies, under the guise it would be bad politically to import all your food as a consequence, and environmentally poor from a diversity perspective.

That Onone looks the business, how do you find the forks under load? (also what are they?).

Would quite like to test ride that Fargo too.

My Xacd arrived this week. Added a disc mount for when if it ever gets relegated to a winter bike, the Kaffenback serves that purpose now and really appreciate dbs in the wet. Not sure I’d bother with internal routing, panniers & mudguard are a good idea.

I spent more time worrying about the size and angles though.

Friend of mine got one of these second hand cheap off ebay and it’s a quality bike:

£35/m 200Gb limit which the kids will hit >90% of regularly. With Pissnet, BT & Sky was 8mb and internet stops working weekends and evenings, Zen stays full whack 31 (24/7).

Be more concerned about frame material than the tyre clearance. Comfiest 700cc I’ve ridden is the Kaffenback. If you want lighter go for Ti closely followed by an Equilibrium or steel audax.

    Am I missing something here?

I’d guess if you lay team A (as opposed to back team B) and its a draw then you win because team A never won?

Picked my parking spot above Feetham, between Gunnerside and Reeth. Might take the bike and cycle to a suitable vantage point. Preferably one with a beer garden at the roadside. The mankini is on order.

I got banned from plusnet for excessive usage, they’re cheap because they target low users and provide minimal service. They used to routinely ‘accidentally’ delete all website and hosted files too. Sky are OK unless you want to use the internet in the evenings or weekends. Probably different if you have cable. TT allegedly are impossible to leave, they continue to bill you forever.

Had some thing similar. On an octalink chain set but drive side. Tried a new BB, new pedal, tightening etc. It was the splines just worn out, could have been shoddy workmanship fitting, probly was, I’d refitted a few times. Anyway, just cut my losses and got a square taper instead.

I’d one for a dog’s age, literally. It was other bigger dogs spicy with them IME, they won’t start anything themselves. Very laid back compared to most terriers, not at all skittish.

Sort of dog everyone says hello to and gets one back, and people don’t mind looking after for you, although they aren’t soppy.

Prepare for a house/car/hoover full of hair though. Not the easiest to train, don’t expect to be able to train them to retrieve or herd sheep, but if you keep on top of things and do it properly you can let them off the lead.

Not sure what your BCD is but spa cycles is where I’d start looking.

It improves your fitness no end

There’s no coasting on a turbo, 45 – 60 mins is plenty enough. Recommend a fluid one for more realistic resistance and less noise ~ CycleOps.

Also a DVD boxset or two.

~Carparks, every man/woman for themselves, first to get within 2m and stop, established etiquette. I’m not going to drive past an empty space because someone the other side might want it. As pointed out the maths back it up, bear no grudges against any lucky anti-clockwisers.

Fast food and bars on the other hand, it’s just plain rude when there is a clear queue. Just because your ‘near’ the front doesn’t mean it becomes a free for all. Yes I’m talking to you McDonald’s people.

Have a sister in Berkeley, commutes to the city center by bus. Nice village but no secondary school. Lots of back-roads and a long canal path nearby.

Buy a dingy and you can nip over to the Forest of Dean at the drop of a hat.
