I was seriously considering some when I had canti brakes. Since swapping to mini vees I am much happier (some down to me not being able to set up cantis and some down to the brake judder thing on tricrosses with cantis).
I had to haul on the cantis hard and they didn’t do much meaning I got horrible arm pump on the downs on the Downs, and I didn’t feel comfortable doing all that on the drops.

I am in the high 8s. Exit interview today, final day at work here on Thursday, off to Afan Friday

Edge taken off by still being full of snot so missed riding yesterday, and wife suffering with long term illness and probably at a 5 herself.

Nice subliminal advertisement too Ton, “The Trade’s Choice”…

Broke nose at The Offspring in Brixton on some blokes knee as he was being lifted up to surf as someone else passed over the top of me pushing my head down into the rising knee. Have a very weak nose after years of rugby and was pretty pissed so I wasn’t too bothered but it made a bad mess of my white tee shirt.
My mates couldn’t stop laughing either!

Any excuse Wwaswas!! But is 4″ not fat anymore?

I love my semi. Marin Pine Mountain. It is pretty cheap, pretty heavy and scares me, particularly in the woods at night

Which order would you like them in Thoughtful through to suicidal.

Based on the fact that I have never seen one without mudguards and they would therefore by default look awful, a Dawes Galaxy looks good with mudguards

Going the other way, could one expect to just stick a 29″ wheel/tyre into a 650b+ and head happily into the sunset? Just wondering about deep mid winter when the mud gets really deep/thick

On my old one, it constantly readjusted itself, and lining up the dots let it run for a week or so before slipping and so I ended up preempting the slip by unaligning the dots a bit. I guess if you have had it a while you would know any nuances on your hub though? And mine slipped in middle gears first

Was out on my new(ish) bike yesterday (Marin Pine Mountain) and it felt a bit sluggish and not right at all having just done a day with Jedi on my full sus.
I felt slow and not really in the mood and the tyres felt draggy, it was a bit damp in the woods and there were a few complaints about it being slippy and skiddy. I didn’t really notice as I was bimbling along concentrating on my technique and not hitting any trees for a change.
Got home and had a look at some of my times and they weren’t far off my best. So yes I was disappointed for a while yesterday, but on reflection I am happy

A couple of mates entered a triathlon.
They exited the water last and second to last, jumped on the bikes, were pinged for slipstreaming at which point the one in front turned round to see what was going on and then clipped the curb and crashed. Then came the run and they missed a turn and set a course record by only doing half the course, but were still last, and then disqualified

    Bit at the bottom:

***For those who are worried about where the rigid Pine Mountain 1 of last year fits in, it still is very alive, picking up the simple moniker “Pine Mountain” to reflect the capable base model in the family.

GavinT – its the same, just slightly wider bars and different gears.

Good man. I got mine 3 weeks ago (bike not ukulele). Love it, but the bars are a bit wide for Stanmer (mine is 2017 with 780mm).

GavinT – odd question but are you “the neighbour with the Pine Mountain”??

PS there is a “no ukulele” rule for Sunday rides, sorry

Crashed twice in my first 2 laps (much harder than I thought at the time apparently!!), and then got cramp during the presentations, I am a broken man today.

Also following some bloke down the hill on the open bit over the A27 something flicked up and hit may face and then stuck to my glasses. Took a couple of seconds to focus on it and realise it was a wasp crawling about. Managed to shake it out but then spent the rest of the lap worrying it might be still hanging on somewhere.

Oh and the marshalls up near dog poo car park who were mocking my fluoro kit – wait till next year!!

Agreed. Use mine to link to Strava via Bluetooth through my phone (it transfers to TomTom site which you can link direct to strava). The Bluetooth connection is a bit slow, but it works. I link mine to a HRM too sometimes. Can pass as a watch (albeit a large digital one). The only issues I had are only being able to charge via the cradle which is proprietary and difficult to source if you break/lose it or leave it somewhere, and the bike mount is based around a 25.4mm bar and therefore has a tendency to split if left on a larger diameter bar.

Also note that the one with the extra bits (cadence and speed I think it was) also has an internal barometer thingy, but the standard one doesn’t. Not clear in the info when I was trying to buy one

Depends on how fit/good you are.
Plus will give you no excuses for not making up the 2 steepest bits
9er hardtail would be more excusable to dismount, although I am sure it is possible to ride it all on anything (I got passed out by a Xtracycle at one point going up a chalky climb a few years ago)

As noted above I am not going plus as I am part of pair so unlikely to be riding for much more than 3-4hrs so comfort less of an issue, but I still don’t want to carry 7lbs I don’t need to for the sake of a couple of climbs, I am fat enough already.

Think that is probably a bit harsh. Yes you can ride round Stanmer rigid if you want (and I often do), but due to the rootyness it is far more comfortable with a bit of suspension front and back, particularly if you are riding solo for 6hrs

And I am going the other way and opting for lightweight HT to save over 7lbs over the 650B+ on the long draggy climbs. I know I will be pushing up Badgers and the Coldean Climb, but I normally do anyway, and it is only marginally slower on the downs

Be nice to us doing the tea :D
Be nice to people when trying to overtake, as above when it gets narrow people will be holding on for dear life and don’t really need faster riders shouting to get out of the way. As a slower rider I can hear you, but I cant always get out of the way.

I have some decathlon ones that are almost identical to the Lifeline ones which I got for a little bit more. Work for me. if its wet or I am coming home the long way, its clips, if it is a gentle 3 mile ride, flats. They are on a SS commuter. Wouldn’t bother swapping pedals in the morning because of rain
