Yes I can file it down, but shouldn't it just "fit"? But 3mm might be enough. Will check tmrw,

OK that was what I thought and hoped, I just don't have the spacers at the moment. Thought I had managed it before, but always had plenty of spacers knocking about and had metal split rings which seem to grip the steerer better.

Flatmate's bike might become a donor bike later

Has anyone ever used precast concrete core walls as the main stability elements to a building? Oh and can you put insulation in the middle if you do?

Seems to be a fair amount of struct eng jobs in Manchester. Not ideal but sadly that is the way it is now. Had to leave Ireland, living in London and commuting out to Brighton.

Oh and wages are coming down so don't hold your breath for decent pay. Those days are gone AGAIN!

Just found out that my riding partner decided to stay out after me last night till 4am then spent the rest of the “night” throwing it all back up again (he doesnt get out much!). Not sure that is ideal preparation but I guess we will find out soon enough

Weather is pretty pissy at the moment, hoping for a reprieve.

Also 5 pints of Murphs has made it seem much easier, but I doubt will help on Saturday

The 6 cell battery thing is a good call – looking for something which will run for 5hrs+ if possible, but from all this no-one seems to have a rubbish netbook!

Will have a look at the Samsungs later this week

    Cheers

My mates dad is one of the policemen (not the one who screams “Get in the back of the van”, but the other one)

Cork Airport are the worst I have experienced. I have had a Park Tools multi allen key taken from me (even though it came through Stansted OK), a lip balm stick as I didnt declare it in my plastic bag (they wouldnt let me take it through even after they had seen what it was and that it was a genuine mistake) and most annoyingly a roll of insulation tape, which I had just bought to try and make a finger splint less obvious at a wedding. Apparently it was too strong (according to their “pull till it snaps” scientific test). I have even had to take off my watch to pass it through the scanner there

I hated my 456. I didn’t get on with the Mary bars, but couldn’t justify new bars so rode it for a while, but really didnt get on. Bought some Outland risers and things didnt get much better. Got a Kona Scrap with had much higher risers (for the GF) and my hands felt in a much better position when I took it out and it rapidly became my favoured bike, while the 456 gathered dust. Eventually I got round to new high risers on the 456 after going out with the GF and wanting to ride her bike and we are finally getting along (me and the 456). On reflection I would have been pretty gutted if I had sold it, but we close to parting ways (again the 456 – still with the GF)

Was planning on hiring a bike so would they not give you enough to keep you running (ie inner tubes etc)? I guess it is more of a question of what the helmets are like. I am flying wit hvery limited space, so just wondering what is worth leaving out and what is a definite. I only use shin/knee pads as I have several pin scars, not because I will be downhilling

I hit a tree this evening, but tis merely a flesh wound. Forgot my helmet so was only doing a bit of xc mince lite riding and not going too fast. I have stayed out of A&E from bike injuries for quite a while now, mainly beinig patched up after rugby

You will also need to perfect the roadie walk. This is usually done on shiny wet tiles in your road shoes when you have a wet ass, and requires you to walk with legs akimbo and arms out wide, holding on to anything solid you walk past, however many cyclist round here just use it whenever they are in lycra

I was overtaken on my comute through London by a bloke on a full road bike (in lycra) whilst struggling up hill from a set of traffic lights on my singlespeed. As he passed he called out “Hurry up Mr Arbuckle”
I am assuming he was calling me fat (and not refering to the rape and manslaughter cases – honestly I never done it!). I know I could lose a few pounds but it was mid winter so I was all covered up with a big fleece and I have comically skinny calves (the only bit of me I was brave enough to show off in the cold).

Oh and I caught him at the next set of lights and took a tow off him all the way in which REALLY annoyed him

I use something like these – cheap and pretty grippy. They are about 2 years old now, so the sole is starting to show signs of pin wear, but for £20 I can’t really complain

Forecast tomorrow is for heavy rain here (surprise!), and all my mates are scared they might shrink if they get wet or something, so looks like a road ride tomorrow on me tod, and maybe a decent (muddy) ride on Sunday. Beers tonight with the lady friend to talk about important stuff…

I tend to go for CT Shirts[/url] as they seem well priced, fit me and have a collar shape that I like (unlike Lewin). Jermyn Street is worth a vist if you are in London as there are several different shirtmakers along there and IIRC there was a thread on here sometime ago which went well over 100 posts on people’s favourite shirts. Each to their own and all that

My last helmet died but in a way that really surprised me. I pulled it on and the plastic retention system just snapped on one side. Didnt realise at the time it just felt loose and i only noticed when i got home. I then gave the other side a gentle tug and it too gave way. Had I come off, the helmet would have just slid round my noggin offering absolutely no protection. I now check straps as well as the lid itself…

I was actually thinking about this yesterday as I finally got round to watching Mean Streets, and I spent the first half waiting for something to happen and the second half checking the clock to see if it was nearly over. The GF slept through the whole thing. Do I need to give it another go? Is there something I am missing?

The orange/red sidewalls look rubbish on my “that blue” 456.
They dont grip on wet roots in my local woods (but nothing does).
There are lighter and less draggy tyres out there

Err, thats about it really. I have new tyres in the shed for when they die, but they just seem to keep on going.

I would probably stick in Cueto as it is only for midweek and he can play 15 too. Halfpenny and Bowe for test team
