Mine have been fine, but I didn’t set them up! I’ve also never really looked at the joint.

    Hope that helps 😬

Me, probably a toss up between the barbed wire fence into which I flew gracelessly upside down, or the coffee table in my living room in a second floor flat which broke a rib whilst testing SPD’s.

    @yogibear
went headlong into mud which was pretty close to the bog of eternal stench (from labyrinth) about 5mins into a night ride cutting it very short. I have photos, but since it scarred him mentally, ripped his jacket and left him stinking I’ll only post up his bike.
I struggled to keep it together once it was clear he wouldn’t drown and had all limbs attached

I had an Alfine 8 for a couple of years. I hated the squishy feeling and the drag, but loved the chain out of the way. Unlike others on here mine needed the cable tension checking regularly.

My bike was actually a Genesis iO and eventually a cheap SS wheel came up I thought why not have a go. I never put the Alfine back on selling it straight after and I’ve always had a SS in the shed since!

If there was a light 3sp hub I would definitely give it another try but for me, but until then I’ll keep an SS and bikes with mechs.

Well I’ve decided to have a go. They will only be on to allow me to ride to work/pub without “disco slippers” as if I am intending a decent length ride where I might want flats, I will change the pedals.

I’m awaiting some SID World Cups, but also got a dropper from them for £60. £40 less than list with no warranty seemed fair to me

True to STW, recomend what you ride!! I am on a Beyond+ but I do have suspension. I have run it rigid and it was great fun but the front always felt a bit low

I tried my Bombtrack Beyond + as a 29er for the SDW this year, as the plus wheels i have are really heavy along with the heavy tyres. It was fine bumbling along and uphill, but at anything over about 20mph downhill with bumps and corners was a nightmare. I didnt think it would make so much difference but it ruined the fun. I still have the front which I might try again on the rigid forks with a plus rear just because, but maybe not. Certainly wont be a serial swapper

Scotland could finish 3rd even if they beat Japan. It might all come down to bonus points and points difference

Well if they finish 3rd they automatically qualify for the next WC. Silver lining and all that??

This all seems a bit like the extra focus on the man being taken out in the air- at first people seemed mystified and the interpretation by the officials was a bit all over the place and now things seem to have settled down and everyone knows the expectations of the laws.

Agreed, but the problem is they are doing it at the RWC and the interpretation is all over the place. This is where Rugby is selling itself to the world but the players and coaches and refs are all seeing it differently which is not a good look.

It’s here. I am in the undecided camp on this. It is similar to the one on Launchbury which seems to have been skipped over although discussed at the time on the coverage. I am not saying Eng are being harshly treated, I just cant follow the logic. It seemed to me that that also met the criteria? The charge on Faz was pretty bad though, can’t really argue a case for the defence

Anyway I am really enjoying the Australian idignation after Hodge got a ban. They made such a big deal about Farrell’s tackle on Rodda in the autumn and why it wasn’t a penatly try, then a very similar tackle, after changes in protcol which they admit had not been coached or explained, results in a ban but Chieka gets all upset.

Love my Segement. Its not light by any stretch, but its plenty strong enough. The only downside is the lack of waterbottle mount, but that may not be a deal breaker.

Also the rear shock is a 165×37 which is a slightly odd size if you need to replace and with the short stroke, setting up is a bit more tricky as getting the difference between 25-30% sag is only 2-3mm. It just takes a bit of messing about to find what feels right

A couple of months ago I went out on my Mk3 Soul for the first in a while and the front wheel felt like it would tuck under all the time. I had been thinking about selling it but loved the sprightly feel until that ride. I had also been saving it for my eldest, but ultimately she might never grow into it and if she did I was worried about spares, so as soon as I got back I put it up for sale so that I didnt change my mind!
It was high spec and I wanted £450, but I have ended up splitting it as I only got interest in the frame and not in the whole bike. With a bit of time I should clear the £450 pretty comfortably

    Arthritis in my big toes
    Tendonitis in my Achilles
Torn all bar 1 ligament in my ankles playing rugby
Torn cartilage in right knee twice
Currently got a dodgy muscle in my lower back
Broken rib in my back which never set properly
Sore wrist from chipped bone which never set properly
Fingers and thumbs variously broken and twisted out of shape.

And currently most annoying is my badly broken nose rubbing on my glasses

Of the above I get pain from one or more body parts daily, particularly in the winter, but it moves around a bit so none of it is chronic, just annoying. I can’t really run anymore, but I can hike up to about 10 miles and then I’ll be in bits the next day. Similarly a long or rough day riding and my lower limbs complain. I’m not too disappointed with how my body is holding up, but I am starting to feel my youth is catching up on me.

Importantly though I dont regret any of my actions that ended up with my trips to A&E (or when I should have gone there). I would go back and do it all again as it was a bloody good laugh!

I rated him as about the 35th best tea pourer….

    DrP

I’ve always said you are a far better rider than you are a tea pourer.

The wind made it very difficult to attempt a decent pour from height. I’ll be honest t wasnt my best year. There was a lot of spillage

Ended up breaking out of the tea tent and did a lap on my (new to me) cross bike. It really wasn’t all that grippy! I couldn’t have puckered any more going down to the rooty drops so got off and walked!!

Pretty happy with 40th place, bearing in mind I had no intention of going out when I left home so had no proper kit and then turned down the loan of a real bike from several people.

I have one of these which I normally run plus, but I did the SDW earlier in the year on it as a 120mm forked 29er and I had a 2.25″ tyre as per the spec sheet.

I have one in bits that you are welcome to . I need to make sure all the little bits are there, but the spring is in one piece if you are worried about cutting a new one. I bought it as a spare but mine was faultless bar the rotation in the saddle. It might not be a T-mars but there were a few that were the same but rebranded

I like the way it looks and feels being a bit lighter at the back. I don’t find it limits me too much either up, down or across, and as it is mechanically simple it is almost always ready to ride (except for now when it is a bit broken!). For those reasons there is almost always a SS in my shed.

I did a fair amount of longer distance training for the SDW earlier this year and was able to keep up pretty well, but I did go for gears on the day. My training was based on HR, and I noticed that on my SS I stood up climb almost all the hills and my HR immediately rocketed. That was fine on training rides up to about 70km but there was no way I would be able to do it all day, but most of my riding is less than 4hrs anyway.

I just got the G7 Power John Lewis deal, and in trying to buy a couple of screen protectors, managed to buy 4

So anyone need 2 let me know and I will post on!

I am looking at similar, the G7 power vs the Nokia 7.1 and apart from one being based around long battery, I can’t see too much difference. Both get very good reviews

I have put a longer fork and plus wheel on the front of my 29er FS Orange, mostly to stop me loosing the bits while I used the forks and wheel elsewhere. Kind of intriged to see how it rides with 2.25″ 29 out back and 3.0″ 27.5 up front. Was thinking the longer forks would balance the lowering of the front, so maybe next week I’ll try it and explode in a ball of flames

We were burgled, and when looking for new insurance were asked about the locks on our patio door. Bearing in mind the full height window adjacent to the door was smashed to gain entry, the quality of the lock does seem a bit pointless. I am a bit resigned to the fact that if someone really wants to get in, they are coming in and theres not a lot you can do to stop them.

So that Manhunt thing where they track a car from sat in a nice cozy office based on them turning on the radio or something is all made up? I knew it was all TV trickery….

I’ll be doing it with MM up there in a couple of weeks and a few others. There is a huge variety in the bikes we will all be using, from a rigid carbon bike through to pretty long travel FS bikes.

Personally I have put 29″ wheels on my steel plus bike over taking my Orange Segment. I was going down the lighter is better route, hence the wheel swap, and I was going to go with rigid forks, but after my first 30+ mile ride my hands were blistered and my wrists were killing me. The steel forks are not much lighter than a set of Fox 32’s so that was a pretty simple decision.

I have Halo Vapour 50’s on mine. They are wide but give good volume to my 3.0/2.6″ NN tyres. They are also very solid and have lasted through some pretty terrible riding without a ding so far

I had a very similar thought to the OP when I was lining up for the PRL in 2017. How hard can it be?? I had done a couple of centuries but they were 7 and 14 years before so no bearing on what I was about to do.
Well I was fairly fit for me, but set off too quick with some very fast mates, lost them when I slowed for a brief chat with Bullheart, and then never caught them again. I ended up looking for a train that was going about my speed as everyone passing me was flying, and I seemed to be flying past others. After about 40mins I turned and realised I was head of the train!! No one helped my train, and I just couldnt get on the back of a faster group. I had the odd bit of help here and there but was pretty much on my own from Richmond to the end. From Kingston on I was slowly turning myself inside out, and by the end came over all emotional as I was so broken and was really shaky after I crossed the line. My mates were fine, and about 10mins faster but with a few stops for me (they waited till they saw me and buggered off without helping)

Final time was about 5hrs 30mins which was just outside the top 25% I seem to remember. Just looked at my Strava for it, and my average speed was actually pretty constant, although the first half was quicker, and it estimates my power to be 177W average over the course.

So how hard is it to do a 5hr century? For me, I’d need a more training than I did and to be in a group aiming for the time, otherwise no chance. I’m not sure I’d ever have the legs to do it solo, but as you can see from the responses above everyone is different.
