Circa £300 is the cheapest I’ve found it for. The place I bought it doesn’t stock it any more. I assume that the price has gone up as people have realised that it’s actually a decent fork and totally worth more than the £140 they were being sold for!

I’ve got a DHF 2.5 on the front of mine and there is still loads of clearance under the bolt on mudguard.

I’ve had a fiddle with the preload and I can’t notice any discernible difference when riding at all. I’ve just got mine a few clicks wound in from fully out. I wouldn’t worry about the sag, how much travel are you using when you’re actually riding?

I ride my commute fasted nearly every day. It’s 27km (so around an hour). It saves me a few mins before leaving the house so I can get up later! I always drink a pint of water before getting on the bike though and then have a coffee when I get to work. Don’t always eat breakfast but will eat through the day and then have a snack before cycling home again otherwise I feel a bit depleted by the end of the day.

I’ve not really noticed any change in my performance or weight loss/gain since riding fasted. I did attempt an early morning 100k ride whilst fasted and just water in the bottles… it didn’t end well though :-)

You can go to air on the Pike as the air u-turn assembly is a sealed unit and so doesn’t seal against the inside of the stanchion… again though, if you can locate one new or second hand.

I had a pair of Pike 454’s up until recently and had the same spring issue as I had an X-Firm and it was too hard. If you’re game for a bit of tinkering then you can actually fit the Sektor Coil to the pike although you have to move the top out spring from the spring side to the damper side. There are a number of forum posts online about the mod which I could probably dig up for you.

What coil do you have at the moment? If you undo the cap on the spring side then you can just lift out the spring and it’ll have a coloured mark on it. As standard it’ll be the red/medium spring.

Annoyingly, the ‘colours’ of the pike springs don’t exactly correlate with the colours of the Sektor spring, but I ended up on a Firm Sektor 150mm dual position spring in my Pike to give me 140mm of travel. I’m 79kg and it was perfect for me. I also tried a variety of other ones before I ended up at this one as randomly the springs came up on amazon for sub £20 so I stocked up on a range of them!

Following a thread on here a little while back, I bought a Buzz Rack Buzzy Bee 4 as I feel like it was on offer:

    https://www.probikekit.co.uk/cycling-accessories-nc/buzz-rack-buzzy-bee-4-bike-wheel-support-rack-black/11259570.html

It’s been great. We’ve been putting 2 adult and 2 childrens bikes on there. My Sonder is massive and it fits ok so wouldn’t be too worried about any sizing issues unless you have a longest Geometron or something.

Gabriel Cycles are pretty decent. Small shop, lots of stock and always helpful when I’ve popped in on the off chance of needing something.

I’ve been using and abusing mine for about 10 weeks now and mine still performs exceptionally. No squish or any other issues.

I’ve got a Cortex too. It’s genuinely excellent for Cross Country/DownCountry/Enduro… you name it, it does it. I’m 6 foot and have the XL with a 210mm dropper as I preferred the look of the reach number over the Large. I’ve got a 140mm fork and Maxxis DHF/DHR2 tyres.

Goes uphill really nicely, pedals well and combined with the 29″ wheels it gets rowdy on the descents. Probably have a go on one if you can and pick the spec to suit your budget. I built mine from a frameset.

How much do you weigh? I’m 80kg and actually find the medium a little too firm.

Springs available here though as was mentioned earlier:

also… according to the TF Tuned conversion kit for the Pike:

“Converting from air to coil will add roughly 300g to your fork.”

So, sounds reasonable for a coil fork.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t weigh mine but I didn’t think “holy crap, this is a boat anchor” when I picked it up so decided not to be a douche about it! Just gotta pedal harder.

I actually also bought a pair for my Sonder Cortex. You can find them brand new for around £135 on ebay from a German seller. I also took a total punt on them as there is very little information regarding them online anywhere, but I decided that £140 for a brand new fork with warranty was less of a risk than more than £200 for a second hand fork. They’ve been specced on a few Giant ebikes too.

I have been genuinely impressed with the fork. The build quality is excellent (certainly matches that of FOX/RS forks), the 15mm skewer is a really cool design, the integrated mudguard is excellent also. I’ve ridden mine loads since I’ve had it and it’s really quite acceptable. Mine has the medium coil and I’m 80kg. It’s perhaps a touch too hard for my tastes but I used 130mm of the 140mm travel at BPW last week so they’re not a mile off in fairness.

I moved over from an old skool Coil Pike and I’d say that they are comparable. You only have rebound damping to play with as the lockout is all or nothing. Harder and softer springs are available (although Suntour suggest the soft is for sub 70kg and the hard is for over 90kg). From what I’ve read, you can upgrade the damper assembly from the more expensive forks too for around £120 when I looked before.

So, overall, for the price of sub £150 it’s genuinely excellent and I’d totally recommend it. It’s not got the adjustment and performance of a top spec fork but it probably shouldn’t be directly compared to them as the price difference is too great. I bought it thinking that if it was terrible i’d just upgrade sooner rather than later but I’ve not no plans to replace it just yet. It performs a lot better than I do!

I agree with the Deore 4 Pot suggestion. I’ve got them on my bike, they cost £115 for the whole set and were easy to bleed. They have plenty of power and feel like a Shimano brake at the lever. Spot on.

Also, I’m forever losing stuff at home so I’ve created some mounts for my lights and my wahoo which I will screw to a mounting plate somewhere in the kitchen so that I can pop my tech on there when they’re not on the bike.

I’ll get another pic once they are installed.

I was a bit fed up with my Wahoo bar mount rotating on the bars so I designed a steerer tube spacer mount that is angled up enough to clear the top of my stem. This should keep it nicely protected by the bars as I don’t think that the road ‘out front’ mount is very good on a mountain bike as it’s quite exposed.

I’ve had Spyres on my Giant Defy for a few years and I still think that they are absolutely fine. Keep the rotors clean and the pads free from contamination and they’re more than powerful enough to stop a road bike. I tweak the pads with the 3mm allen key about as regularly as I maintain the drivetrain (which probably isn’t regularly enough) but I always run them as close as I can as I prefer the feel of the lever.

I use these pads: Uberbike Race Matrix – TRP SPYRE

They quite often run discount codes to get 25-30% off which makes them very affordable. I run this compound on all my bikes and they provide excellent stopping power and long life.

I ordered mine in September. I run mine with the sub £20 Bonty lever and it works a treat.

Odd, the one I got shipped had the V2.1 actuator.

Oh, my frame arrived in perfect condition with shock attached, axle and dropout kit ready to fit. It all seems good so far. My only point of minor concern is that the paint seems quite fragile. I’m not normally one to go as far as taping up a frame too much (it’s a mountain bike… I like the used look) but this has shown signs of wear in places that my locally powder coated bike didn’t show after 18 months of hard use.

I’ve got one. It’s a custom build with a 140mm coil fork, 1×11 XT drivetrain, Shimano 4 pot brakes and a 210mm OneUp Dropper.

    Sonder Cortex

It has replaced a 26″ Orange Five and it climbs better and descends better, plus it pedals better and rolls over anything in its path. I love it.

I used a pair basically all last winter riding the offpiste trails near Petersfield. They defs gave grip when others were struggling. Makes a Maxxis Shorty look like a fast rolling tyre though!

Mine also took a few days to settle and stop leaking with the tubeless but after that they were fine.

I found them fine over roots as you’d have a bit more control going in and coming out of a root section, but they did feel rather ‘squirmy’ on anything fast and hard packed.

I’ve had a OneUp V2 for around a month now, it also came with the V2.1 actuator. I’ve got the 210mm model which I have shimmed down by 20mm to fit inside my XL Sonder Cortex. It’s great. Very smooth and fast return. Tiny bit of play as mentioned before but nothing I wouldn’t expect. Mine was £158 without the lever as I already had a spare which made it barely more expensive than the 170mm Brand X.

I’ve got a Cortex and it’s bloody brilliant. So far I’ve ridden the usual QECP offpiste a few times, rode Snowdon on Monday and then went out with the family today and it’s been great for all of it. Mine’s an XL with a 200mm dropper and it climbs well and descends fantastically. I took the plunge having not ridden it but it attacks up really well on the trail. I’m bought the Rockshox shocked frameset and built it up. I’ll do a proper build thread on it at some point but the whole build was around £1500.

I got a frame and built it up myself too. I’ve done 2 rides on it so far and the setup is coming together and it’s an absolute hoot.

    Sonder Cortex

Mine is an XL with the Rockshox Select+ shock, 140mm coil fork, shimano 4 pot brakes and a OneUp 210 dropper.

There was the Shimano GR7 at Evans for £29.99 the other week. I think on the other thread some people bought multiple pairs so worth having a look to see if anyone has a ‘spare’ pair.

I ordered a 45 as per my other shimano shoes (I’m a UK 10 normally). First ride last night and they are excellent. Light weight, excellent fit, comfortable and insane grip levels. Lovely shoe at full price. Totally exceptional for £30!

Funny that you ask this question as I had a similar situation the other day. There was a young ragamuffin who seemed to drop the F bomb every other word. My 5 year old daughter came over and told me that the lad was saying “F%$K” lots and it was “really rude and he shouldn’t be saying it”… I suggested that perhaps she told him that. She did tell him, his mates ripped him for it and he stopped pretty sharpish!

I’ve got the KS Eten Remote:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223547227375

I upgraded the remote to one of the £20 Bontrager ones and it’s been excellent for 3 or so years now. I run a full outer on the remote which has made it more reliable but it’s been fine. I can’t honestly say that I notice any front to back flex having ridden it on a full suss and a hardtail but I am sure that it must be more flexible than a larger diameter rigid post.

PM me if you wanted to negotiate a swap to test it?!

We’ve got an Xtracycle Edgerunner that I bought from someone on here actually. It had been upgraded from a 3×9 drivetrain to an Alfine 11 when we bought it and we have since added a simple front wheel motor kit (think chinese ebay variety).

It rides really nicely (like a normal bike) and I often take my twin 4 year olds on it with various luggage and it continues to ride really well. It’s got the smaller rear wheel so that the CoG is kept nice and low. I am pretty sure that they only came in one size, so it’s a bit of a one size fits all arrangement but ours seems to work ok for myself (6′) and my wife (5’9″) with an adjustable saddle height. I think that if I rode it more regularly for longer trips then I’d feel the need to work on the setup, but for short out and about local runs it’s excellent.

We have one car and the Cargo bike and it’s brilliant. I can only imagine that the newer ones with a decent powered drivetrain system are even better. From a practicality purpose, a decent double leg stand is a must as that beast is weighty once it’s loaded up! Think mine is 70+kg with the kids on it.

I’ve had a Defy Advanced 3 for a few years and I’ve done around 30,000km on it. It’s the lower spec with Tiagra 10speed and TRP cable disks and it has been fabulous. I’ve ‘raced’ the Revolve24 on it, I’ve commuted on it all seasons and I’ve done some 300+km rides on it. It’s an excellent bike and I thoroughly recommend it. I’m 6′ and I ride a ML with a 120mm -10° with no spacers. It’s still not overly racey but it is very comfortable and obviously depending on your engine, it’s not slow.

What’s the name of the dude on Pinkbike? I remember looking in to this a while back but didn’t save the info!
