nearly finished, build budget has gone through the roof, i decided to lose the barends, and the cables havent been trimmed as i might put some different cantis on, and the stem will be swapped as soon as i can find a decent 100 – 110 mm reach zero rise stem in nickel finish (cough, anyone? ive given up on finding a 1 1/4″ quill so ahead stems retro pls!)

But the purpose of a weld is to hold the tubes together not to look pretty, so do you accept that the premium for US built frames (£750+) is purely cosmetic?

Ive owned airbornes and an enigma and had lots of gos on the top of the line merlin.

To be honest, the only discernable difference was cosmetic.

Merlins and litespeeds have lovely finishing, lovely welds and little engravings and dropout detailing, do they ride differently?

Geometry and kit are what make any noticeable difference in frames made of the same material imho

Sorry haggis but like most boutique ti frame owners you think it is imbued with some magic american fairy dust, its not you’ve spent around £750 for some nice weld detailing, some decals and a smug feeling.

Had chrome matte grey, and purple mettallic made, i opted for the chrome

Howdi elfin, an odd story really, i drove all the bloody way to wales (7 hr round trip wont be doing that again) to pick up an epic, walked in to the bike room glanced at the epic, said yep ill take it but what is that beauty hanging up!!!! The guys wife told me it had been up there as an ornament for 10+ yrs.

Its very shiny, light and has suntour xc comp mechs front and rear and chainset and bb all mint.

They threw it all in with the epic (£375) for an extra £30….. I was chuffed!
