My original view was one shared some others here and quite a few people I know, a few of you took offence at my post which I regret but I don’t apologise for asking the question, maybe could have worded it better tho.

@timc – I’m very very surprised your keyboard wasn’t replaced free of charge, did you ask (I assume you bought the MacBook in the UK and hadn’t damaged the keyboard)

Bought in the Uk & Not damaged, Apparently the keyboard just bust, no sign of water damage or any other pap the ‘genius’ was chatting. I asked if it was covered in anyway, none, i had to cough up £160 notes.

Not impressed really, could count myself unlucky I guess…

OK, I guess I’ll have to concede that there is more to suspension design than just pumping it up a bit more The problem is that, much as I admire people who try to push the envelope of what’s possible with bike design, I’m naturally a cynical fellow and tend to believe that virtually everything is just marketing BS unless proved otherwise. Guess I’ll just have to test some of these bikes out sometime and make my own mind up. Still, interesting to read the comments in the meantime.

you dont have to understand it to enjoy it though, make the efforts to demo, its worth it imo. i rode x8 bike before i bought mine, glad i did in hindsight

@ timc – The reason for the steel on the Rocket is that during the development it become pretty obvious that there was going to be hardly anything in it weight-wise between aluminium and steel for the level of durability I wanted. That and the seat tube was much stiffer than the aluminium equivalent, so I could tie the suspension on properly.

The only way you’d shave significant weight off the Rocket and keep the durability is using carbon. 7.5lb 150mm frames aren’t that uncommon regardless of material. SB-66, Covert, Butcher all in that ballpark.

Makes sense, thanks for reply, it was a genuine question btw, not having a ‘pop’ at steel bikes!

out of interest where are the demo’s?

@timc – My Rocket is 30.5lbs with pedals, 3 x 9 gearings, Fox 34’s, Reverb and 2.5″ tyres. It’s not that heavy, is it?

No, its not that heavy, I,m simply asking, would a lighter material not have helped achieve that goal, It wasnt a comparrison to the Orange 5 in any way.

OK, so you want the bike to “pop” of things more than most long travel bikes. You could just ride a bike with less travel of course (which would also be lighter), but I guess you still want the travel for the big hits (e.g. when you cock something up). But can’t you just increase the pressure in the suspension of any long(ish) travel bike to get the same effect?

Or use something lighter than Steel?

Orange & 5 need to be added to the swear filter then we can get a proper discussion going without all the fan boys needlessly chipping in.

Having ridden a five (briefly) as well as other high and forward single pivots (extensively) and never riding a rocket I’d buy the Cotic.

Moving away from a high forward single pivot design has made the single biggest positive improvement to my riding

    Cant argue with science 😆

mboy i get the sale chart figures every day, do you? Id suggest you show me the figures that show a trend of dubstep selling serious units…

EDIT: ofcourse there will be the odd exception to the rule, but in general, it doesnt sell.

lets clarify something here mboy, no dubstep shifts lots of units, its really doesnt sell well (in the UK)

good program, worth a watch i thought! makes you miss the good old days of clubbing, their are underground scenes still going but their not as big & widespread as they were, as odd as that sounds.

Interestingly a club in Liverpool that ran at the same time as cram through the 90’s called club 051 has had x2 reunion parties this year in its old venue, both selling out & getting 2000+ clubbers in, I went to the first one, ame faces but all 30-40 now, same tunes, very odd but bring the great memories flooding back!

You shouldn’t have a runflat repaired at all. My company has a policy about this, absolutely no repairs on a runflat. You can’t tell what damage has been done to the tyre outside of the puncture.

    spooky_b329 – Member

You can get runflats repaired, there was an article recently about garages miss-leading consumers and forcing them to buy a new tyre when its not always required.

The key thing is that if you’ve driven any difference on a punctured runflat, then it shouldn’t be repaired.

Its kind of a grey area isnt it? my understanding is you can repaair if its a puncture in the tread that hasnt been driven on at zero/very low pressure, ie a slow puncture. But once you drive it flat, its scrap?

That’s not the point of runflats though; the point is if you have a puncture you don’t have to be stranded, and you don’t have to stop at the side of the road and fix anything, you can just drive to a garage or home or wherever, and then make arrangements for a replacement.

I think we all know the ‘point’ of runflats. The majority of people (men or women) can learn how to plug a Compressor into a ciggy lighter & attached to a flat tyre valve.

The point is they offer reduced comfort, reduced grip & cost more.

So its a simple personal choice.

FYI, tyre weld etc – once you put that in a tyre you can’t repair it.

Aware of that, my point was a conventional tyre is cheaper than a run flat.

Early RF tyres were a bit harsh but modern ones are brilliant. You can drive with a flat tyre, what’s not to love.

The fact its scrap once you get home if truly flat & then more expensive than a conventional to replace

So what do people do then, in case of a puncture?. carry a spare wheel in the boot, or is there a better alternative?

Look up Conti Kit, lots of people carry that or similar (Electric compressor with foam) and a tyre weld or two.

Also have the full monty roadside cover

Plenty of modern cars from new come with standard tyres & a compressor/foam solution for get home, Honda civic an example

They are repairable. I’ve have many nails fixed with plugs and had them fixed at ATS.

I also did this with no problems

    sniff – Member
puncture light comes on. Just drive on home and get them repaired at your leisure.

Hey? If you have a proper puncture & drive on zero pressure you get 150 miles @50mph & then they are scrap…

£300 a corner could only be a quote from a BMW dealer. Far more reasonable prices out there.

Cant you find 255/35/18 for much less from the premium brands?

As above the difference is distinct.

I had Bridgestone run flats all round, £225 front, £300 Rear each.

Finally made the switch to non-RFT a few months back, got a full set of Michelin’s for £560 fitted, Much improved ride & grip. I would recommend it to anyone.

BMW salemen saying you ca not switch is a load of bo11ox, like you cant get your care serviced else where etc etc
