Income for artists from streaming is pathetic.

    Thats not fair, its rubbish.

sadly zero context attached by the BBC’s article.

Ill play devils advocate to add some context, just because no one really knows.

Are those streams from the UK or say ‘Turkey’ where streams have less value. Why mention monthly listeners when you aren’t paid for that figure. 5 or 6 million streams? which is it? ad funded or premium tier streams? they have different values, How many contributors / performers are on the record, the label credits suggest lots of other performers on the tracks all taking a share, not a solo performer, so what is her split? And then you have the various labels to which the music is released? so various deals & royalty rates!?

the problem the music industry has with digital distribution is they resisted the move to digital for too long. Devices were being sold with the capacity to hold 1000s, 10,000s, 100,000s of songs and there was no legitimate way to put music on them so the default way to do that was through piracy.

that means the established value of a digital copy of musical recording is ‘£zero’

Worth mentioning the tech industry & music Industry are not the same thing, unless you’re apple of course

As a (objective) Record label employee I know only too well both sides of the coin. I often find these articles really poorly researched or explained, So many circumstances & very little context delivered.

What I would say is if you wish to support an artist to a greater length, buy a live ticket, cd, T-Shirt, some even have gofundme or donation type accounts! don’t feel guilty about using a streaming service.

I had a 2006 E90 320d that blew its Turbo at 57k, well documented on those earlier models I recall.

What I’m not so sure on is the brands who spend money sponsering sporting events (ie, ford having a ford banner at the side of some premiership match). Sure – there will be positive connotations etched in for some fans, but surely just as many will have seen their side take a pounding and get minor revulsion every time they see the logo again?

Worth noting advertising is part of a wider Marketing strategy, That strategy will determine how an advertising campaign is commissioned.

Sponsorship can be implemented with very different objectives, but even when they have the same objective, because you’re dealing with brands, the performance can differ regardless.

Aon found their sponsorship of Man Utd had a positive effect, Investec found their sponsorship of Tottenham to have much less effect, they both had the same goal(s) (excuse the pun) but for various reasons they had differing results.

Currently 3.5 months into my wait for a warranty replacement rim on my trail wides, as above mine cracked from standard use.

Ive also had the free hub fail & I’m having to do the bearing already, all on the rear rear. Ive done about 300/350 miles on mine.

I couldn’t recommend them based on my experience despite the ok customer service.

Mr Renton you do seem to pop up every so often looking for a new purchase to solve your riding woes! Bike change hasn’t proved the solution in the past!

Maybe get out riding more on your Hightower more regular, ride more challenging places than FOD which is pretty tame & a Hightower is probably overkill anyway.

Maybe get fit off the bike also, get a PT for a couple of months! If you come back fitter & stronger it will feel like a new bike anyway.

Also if you’re slow stay at the back & you won’t feel such pressure.

Ive seen the Orange colour way on the Internet & in the real world & it looks brilliant on both! Great addition!

In general people don’t like change but companies have to evolve, Cotic have made a lot of bold moves in recent years & that should be celebrated really!

Those bottle bosses do look a lil untidy, but in practice I wish my Soda Max had them so I could run x2 Cages & Hose clips neatly!

I have regular access to a Doblo Maxi van, 1.6 Multijet diesel.

As (very) cheap vehicles doe I think its a pretty impressive car. Its obviously not that refined, its not that manoeuvrable either as mentioned above, reversing sensors a must, its handling is adequate, its a van after all, ours has been very reliable over 5 years.

The brakes are super strong up front, the pulls very well for a modest 105bhp, its seasonal on the MPG.

I noticed a marked improvement in handling & ride when I put good quality tyres on it over the cheap rubbish it came with that made it feel wooden & break traction very easily!

Go test drive id say, as its very much a van over a car!

I also have them on one of my bikes, currently have Minions on the other bike.

As above great in the loose & loamy, I prefer the minions in dryer, Rockier environments.

For me the Front tyre is the stand out performer, the rear is decent. Id say so far decent wear rates.

Why do, such as Radio Wales above, pay more?

Also, do some Radio stations get paid by the record companies to play their records?
Capital being a prime example, who play pretty much the same 10-15 songs 5 or 6 times a day, interspersed with an occasional one that gets played once a day.

The Reality is BBC Wales don’t pay more, its either incorrect or was reported incorrectly to the artist. It’s simply not the case.

Record Labels do not pay Radio Stations, they would just buy them if that was the case. That doesn’t mean other arrangement don’t exist though, Playlist features for Live event performances etc.

Capital also has a playlist structure, but their operation is very different to the BBC’s, Privately owned & with no real desire to play anything but hits or new music from stars. It’s about the most popular current records on repeat right now. I suspect they know their audience don’t listen for prolonged periods.

Do regular presenters get any/much opportunity to curate their music, or is it all preselected for them?

The BBC Stations have a Daytime Playlist Structure decided by a playlist panel, not the DJ’s (although on some stations they will have influence), Over night shows are different. I’ll stick to daytime here.

Outside of the Playlist Structure (A, B, C & additional Feature lists) they then have Recurrent Playlists. Be it recent hot records, Most requested, Strong Reaction etc.

Most Spot plays will be programmed by the Producers of the show, if you hear a random classic several times in quick succession chances are its from one producer or a team of producers. It could be linked to Artist & label activity, live dates, new album etc, but often its just a creative decision from someone who can.

I have already been down this road on my XL, I ended up with a cotic 35mm Stem (£39) & Nukeproof Horizon Carbon bars (38mm rise) for £50 in the CRC sale a while back.

It makes difference so Id agree its worth exploring.

    Ive also been at 120mm & 140mm & have stayed at 140mm.

Im also considering trimming my bars to 780mm to add that consideration

Go & try plenty on, the fit, cut, length, thickness & purpose can vary widely & be very personal, as can the features, more minimal jackets with less features are quite common now, plus walking, hiking, climbing, mountaineering jackets can all differ in features but look very similar on the hanger.

My advise from experience would be don’t get hung up on the material, eg, Gore tex Active vs Gore tex pro, Pertex v exoshell v diamond light or whatever they are all called, fit & function is key, if anything consider the Denier level you want or need as that will play a part in comfort.

Arcteryx, Mountain equipment, RAB, Montane, Mammut, High end Berghaus & high end North face all have brilliant jackets from my experience

Rumor was that the Cumbria police Sierra’s and Sapphire’s all had bags of sand in the back to keep them down on the road. There was one story of one going to rescue crew of an overturned police Sierra on Shap in a gale, only for the second to get blown off the road.
Another missed the bend over the bridge at Lazonby only to end up like this hanging above the Eden.

You say it like it was the cars fault & not the drivers!

Currently running 2.6 Butcher black Diamonds on my Hardtail & Minion 2.5WT / 2.WT Exo plus combos on my Full Sus, both on 30mm rims i might add.

I like the butchers grip & you can run low pressures well with the Black Diamond casing, the grid is too weak for my liking. I do however also find that the tyre can be a lil bit boingy as mentioned above & have also read reviews of other finding the same. Will continue to experiment with pressures! grip is great though & rolling good.

if an Indy or folk artist has an album on Spotify, and one track gets a million and a half streams, but the rest get ignored, then that’s about £1000-1500, not even a living wage, but major artists might get every track being streamed a million or so times, that’s £10,000

Can I ask you for a source of this information?
