Interesting you found it so hard, as above it must be part of your rehab causing it to be hard & your age will play a part no doubt (sorry).

You do far more cycling mileage than me yet at the weekend I did Snowdon (Up Waktins & Down Miners) & whilst I was tired at the end I found it relatively easy with zero walking pedigree / Mileage. Great fun though, made me want to get out more!

I guess with everything its building upto it & allowing time to recover

I like the majority would recommend a set of Hope/Stans wheels but I see on one have Shimano XT 29er wheels at £200. I have these on my Solaris & would say that is great VFM. Shimano reliable, decent strength & tubeless.

No Idea what tyres would suit your riding but I recently picked up a set of Maxxis Ardent LUST 2.25 from the STW classifieds for £45 posted as good as new condition, couple of rides & so far so good!

If you could get Similar at £250 that would be a great initial upgrade IMO.

As mentioned above if you have the legs & lungs going 1×10 (gears) would also lighten your bike & make it more responsive.

Just go stoke & M6 and stop poncing about 8)

Personally I would start with the wheels & tyres, take the opportunity to go tubeless as well.

i ride down San Marino, up through belmont joining WW. Along to Tockholes working my way through to Abbey Village.

I then road it to Brinscall & climb up Great hill on the road & bridleway from there.

Your two grassy routes are torture.

i have a set of 120mm Reba’s on mine & think I will be trying 100mm when possible, feels a bit lethargic for want of a better term up front, a bit tall, i think 100mm should sharpen it up nicely & still offer more than enough travel

Mark88 id personally leave both Gisburn & Lee Quary & Do a nice Big Lakes ride instead, take same amount of travelling time & be a far better ride
