Currently Ultegra 10s and DuraAce 10s on my road bikes with KMC Missing Links, no issues with either KMC or Shimano IME

KMC…their 10s Missing Link is re-usable and can be used with KMC and Shimano chains
PS see who else KMC supply http://www.wiggle.co.uk/kmc/ (towards the bottom of the page)

You can mix road and MTB, and even campag and shimano, but only certain combinations work. CTC Forum might be your friend here, many tourists favour square taper BB / MTB gearing

Truvativ Elita GXP compact double, annual inspections only and no problem in 8500 all-year-round commuter miles.

    All of the above
Internally-routed cables? Check that the inner cables aren’t sticking
At this time of year; outer cable casing / bottom bracket guide full of crud
Jockey wheels worn / too much play / G&T wheels mixed up
Be careful about lubricating the inner cable, some greases get too sticky

Try an Iwanson caliper for a fiver. It’s a dental tool measuring down to 0.1mm
The problem comes with finding the manufacturer’s spec. I can’t find either a wear indicator or a rim spec for my Mavics

My Etrex30 with barometric altimeter varies from 1194′ climbed to 1285′ climbed on the same commute route. It generally hovers around the 1200′ mark though. Distance-wise it’s very consistent. HTH

2001: A Space Odyssey “See you next Wednesday” (not a lyric, but hey)
Have a good ride, hope the weather holds for you

Get down to your LBS, Bontrager, Spesh and, I think, Fizik do a 30 day trial warranty

Probably not this week, and the weather looks pretty good too

I will be panting at the rear

…only until my astonishing lack of technique puts me there

I’ll confirm later if I’m going

Spesh Phat bar tape, with gel pads. 4.5mm or 2.5mm @£13 if you shop around

    Sensa Trentino SL here.
I’m 6′ and bought 58cm, which has the same horizontal top tube length as my 56cm Spesh
The bike came full Ultegra despite being advertised as part-Ultegra, I guess this was to do with the imminent (then) 6800 coming out.
Great bike and excellent service from Merlin (I’ve no connection to them)
    My mods:
    Helicopter tape on RH chainstay
25mm tyres this year (OEM 23mm)

I’ll hopefully be there. Picked up a silly injury so I’ll see how the commute goes, I’ll confirm later

Smartphone battery life is limited when GPS-ing

Etrex 30 connected via USB is comparatively slow. I keep maps, routes, etc on microSD fitted in the Etrex. I plug the microSD directly into the PC for transfers, there are various USB-size and SDcard-size adaptors out there for not very much money

might have left the satnav on

Some statistics: 10 miles, a good evening and a decent pint

18.4 miles with my back wheel slippage, no grippage, (maybe) :D

    Etrex 30 here
Does everything that I need and does barometric altitude
AA batteries a bonus, you can buy them in most places
I prefer to plan routes on the PC and then upload to a micro SD card

Thanks for putting up with me Danny

At least the wind noise covered the sounds made by the big cat/axe murderer that lurk in dark woods.

If you’ll have a new, old MTBer, no gear and no idea, I’d like to join you.

I’ll look out for that one.
One of these Wednesdays/weekends, when the weather/work is right  I’d like to try out with your group (if you’ll have a new, and old, MTBer)

Two mini roundabouts where car drivers don’t have to give priority to cyclists from their right (apparently)
