The Lord of the Rings Trilogy

    sooooo painful 🙂

I wanted to hate the Dark Knight, but actually thought it was ace – Heath Ledger was brilliant in it

I quite enjoyed Quantum of Solace. Think that CR and QoS are still trying to reinvent Bond, and the storylines will flow a bit more in the forthcoming films

Does anyone actually use the pressure gauge on a pump though when you get a puncture out and about?

I just pump away, squeeze the tyre a bit, realise thats jst about ok and i cant be arsed to pump anymore, and ride off 🙂

Open Water – just utter rubbish, nothing happens

Twilight – GF asked me to go and see it with her. Fell asleep.

Elf – awful, awful, awful, awful, awf…

Blair Witch Project – just crap

Mega Shark vs…on the other hand this looks so bad its good (theres a lot of films in that category!):-)

I think this year had to be a big learning curve really – and the boys did good 🙂

The only gripe i had was the cost – i dont think £40 was unreasonable for the whole weekend, but thats only if you could make the whole weekend and do all the events – and as said before it was quite easy to miss an event.

But…i think it did put a lot of people off as well – no-one knew what to expect, especially first time around. Although the alternative of paying for each event/day/night camping would be a nightmare to arrange. Not moaning as such, just trying to be helpful 🙂

I didnt quite get how the spectator ticketing worked either?

Was a good vibe – bit of a shame there wasnt a few more folk, but i cant speak as I couldnt make it on sunday and didnt camp over either (planned to do both but life got in the way). Really wish i could have though as the Sunday sounded like a laugh and i wanted to watch/have-a-go-on the lake jump

The little nippers were great – they were giving it hell on the hastily arranged 'dual slalom' through the barrels.

Who won the trackstand comp? 🙂

there are some old marins i see in regular use – 97/98 with mega mileage done on them 🙂

There are a few pro-flex's around as well – which must be at least as old but probably older

I'm sure the thinking probably went – Berlin -> that reminds us of Jesse Owens -> we have just eleceted a black leader -> wouldnt it be nice if we commemorated JO's success in berlin and and at the same time highlighted OB's presidency

why would any german be offended? I'd have thought they would be quite happy to be involved in it.

people are reading too much into this i fear 🙂

I guess the big problem with recumbents is that if they allowed them for the TT, then it'd be strange not to allow them for the race, and if they were allowed, a good rider would probably ride faster than the standard peleton, meaning it'd become more of an individual race than a tactical thing as everyone would have to have their own recumbent (can recumbents draft recumbents?).

    Joe

You'd probably have to be mentally close together. Recumbents are ace…and utterly mental at the same time. I really want to have a go on one…just not on the road!

they should be able to use what the hell they want to use

Fully faired recumbents for the TTs then. Or do you think there should be some rules?

within reason 🙂 Double diamond frame, min.weight limit, drop bars – after that, free reign to be be imaginitive. TT bikes are compeltely different to standard road racing bikes anyway

I love how road bikes are simple to look after and easy/quick to fix.
Servicing my mtb. susp. forks after 30 hrs of riding is a joke.

I hope the UCI never allows disc brakes on road races-tradition.

But it shouldn't stop us when commuting or training-but thats when cx bikes/mtb with disc brakes come in useful.

Never quite understood this logic – they should be able to use what the hell they want to use (fair enough, keep the min.weight limit) – makes life more interesting

It will be much more fun with travel and gears

depends on how quick you are really – if your fast rigid will slow you down something chronic – its rocky!

they SHOULD be the the same 🙂 but you can shim the actual disc out so they match anyway without touching the caliper

well, as long as they are all 6-bolt (centrelock complicates matters)

flatties rely on a flat sole to grip the pedal…so confuisus shoes with no grip maketh a man fall over in mud.

they also have pins – cant say i've ever had a real problem.

flatties are superb in the mud – much better than SPD's when its really claggy 🙂

Its fine to ride whether its soaked or bone dry.

Food is nicer at the ponds, so it depends on whether you want a big lunch or an after ride munch 🙂

If its just a hack bike…singlespeed it, rigid forks, big bolt on axles, ball bearings araldited into any remaining bolt holes (bars/brake levers) (good idea that!)

They do grind away at the dropouts if your not careful (as QRs dont actually rotate)

    Tim
    Free Member

I think its just an arese covering thing in case you dont do them up tight enough

i suppose, if QRs are use properly, the strain forces actually tightens them, as you SHOULD be putting the cam over the "hump"
    (if that makes any sense)

true, but only for some types of skewer – lots of aftermarket ones dont use an 'overcam' design like shimano use, so they can only get looser.

Ti skewers? Stretchy and less secure. Bolt up skewers make no difference to the wheel eject disc brake thingy.

I wont start this one again, but they sort of do – a bolt up can’t suddenly release all of its ‘tightness’ in one go, like a none cammed/badly cammed QR can. Less chance of it coming loose enough for ejection. (i know its not the only factor!)

not starting this again, and walking away!

OP! I bought some Kore secure ones for the GF’s bike – been fine so far and you can get them nice and tight. Careful though – some of them do grind away at the dropout a bit as its been designed for QR
