The 3rd one was painful. I nearly stood up twice at the end as i kept thinking ‘this must be the final scene’.

Were you sat behind us – we were sniggering every time they made a grab for their coats.

Possibly, if you kept hearing assorted muttered comments: “not more”, “my legs have packed in”, “I have DVT”, “Throw it in the bloody lava you tit”, “whats this about”, “can i go home”, “noooo more please”, “boat?”, “excellent, lets get to the car park before it gets to busy…hang on, why are they back at the start of the first film, this wasnt the trailer was it?”

    Question:

Why do most toasters have slots not large enough for standard sized bread?

    How come setting 3 = warm bread, 3.5 = warm bread, 3.9 = hugely undercooked toast, 4 = charcoal

And if it burns on setting 4, what the hell is setting 6 for? Starting a bread-fusion reaction?

These are questions i want answers to

nice thick waterproof jacket and trousers, duct tape anywehere they can get in

pair of boots – more duct tape

    Marigolds – more duct tape.

Safety goggles over hood, more duct tape.

Breathing mask (the spray is evil anyway), more duct tape round the edges.

    Wasp Destroyer spray

    launch attack

worked here, minus the duct tape as it was only a wee nest 🙂

I saw all 3 films at the cinema – went with my OH.

The 3rd one was painful. I nearly stood up twice at the end as i kept thinking ‘this must be the final scene’.

And then all that pointless crap about the bloody boat.

and THEN they go back to tellytubby land again.

Somewhere between the boat bit and tellytubby bit i began to really really hate Tolkien for writing this dross, and Peter Jackson for filming it 🙂

I was happy to work my way through the maths sections of a Neal Stephenson novel.

But after what seemed like 500 pages of Tolkien describing every bloody blade of grass in a bloody field, nothing had happened at all and I couldn’t be arsed. 🙂

Read the part of the first chapter of The Hobbit and gave up. Really cannot see the appeal in the books or the films…

Thats quite amusing, considering the stick we give them 🙂

You can fit an mtb in pretty much anything. 106, 205, polo’s, C1/aygo/107 have been done.

Quite right, so lets leave the last words to someone who has –

This was the story I referred to earlier – why is that the guy with no legs got picked on for not helping?

I don’t think he is personally, he is just the figurehead (because of his disability he is the most famous) for the groups that decided the summit was more important than a mans life

As said before, to me there is a distinct difference between stopping an ascent to help, and being unable to help on a descent…seems some in the thread are purposefully blurring these lines.

    However, i am not a climber…

One must rely on the judgement of people who’ve been there. Joe Simpson and Simon Yates have been there and Joe is very clear in his opinion.

Not having read the full text, what is Simpsons opinion?

    found a synopsis…

“We have no need of codes by which to judge our ethical response to situations. We know intuitively what is the correct way to behave.” Passing by a dying man without even stopping to hold his hand is a terrible violation of this universal standard of humane conduct, and undercuts the very foundation of society.”

I think theres a big difference between passing someone in danger on your ascent compared to your descent.

Passing someone on an ascent and not trying your hardest to help is digusting – considering you are planning to put yourself in more danger by going higher anyway.

Surely at that point, the want to help a another human being should override self interest, the need for glory and that you dont want to waste your £50 grand on the chance of saving someone.

I think the idea itself is a good one, but the marketing of it is quite odd and comes across as a bit pretentious 🙂

Nice idea in principle (I think – i’m not 100% sure exactly what it does), although not something I imagine I’d ever feel the need for personally.

From a quick view of the site it’s not actually clear what PleaseCycle does:

PleaseCycle is a British start-up with one purpose:
“Deliver tangible and intangible value for employers by inspiring cycling.”

This could be a spoof/parody. No normal person speaks like that 🙂

Was thinking SID – Z2’s are pretty heavy IIRC

want a disc as well 🙂

For an old bike (nostalgia) that was gonna get built as ‘period’, but i’m kinda thinking it would work just as well modernised.

    What dustytrails said

It’ll help, but i always thought that sudocrem wouldn’t provide as much protection against chafing.

And its better for after ride soothing 🙂

I had to dremel my SS single chainring one to get it to fit a hardtail. there is a hell of a lot of excess metal in it.

If you rotate it too much it just wont work and rub like hell

Only thing i’ve bought from them was a chain device, because it was cheap.

It was also very low quality in places – the lower roller/guide . The jockey wheel wore out in very few miles, squeaked and dragged badly.

The backing plate and top link are fine though – can’t really expect more for the money, although the backing plate needed extensive dremel action to fit on my BFe

Still – hacksaw the bottom arm off, dremel, alu plate, mrp roller – works fine now 🙂

I think this is the problem with riding 3 times a week on natural trails and not the trail centres the manufacturers believe we all ride.

Heh, dunno about you, but Welsh grit eating brake pads and chains/dust getting into bearings and generally hammering over rocks tends to destroy bikes pretty quicky 😉

That said, southern clayey mud does a smilar job in a slower, messier fashion

Its when you lose the chain and kneecap youself on the shifter/stem

then a chainguide is worth it 🙂

Back pedal a ‘tiny bit’. Not knowingly either, just setting the pedals – if the chain isnt sat correctly on the bottom run it can come off.

Ordered last week and seems fine so far…

Off road you need a top guide at the very least, but i’ve always found a lower gide is required as well, or you can lose the chain when you back pedal for corners or over really rocky stuff

picked up some Bicycle Union ones from LBS

Black, simple, hidden plastic knee guard. Ridden for a day with and not particularly uncomfortable

    Suits me 🙂

Got some Veggie Knee’s here but they are enormous so going back to CRC

From this weekend trip to Afan and speaking to a few people:

Skyline is closing for good soon, although not sure when. Possibility of the first 1/3 remaining?

Cafe is due to re-open for Easter

Penhydd is due to re-open ‘sometime this year’

The 4X track wasn’t in a particular great state (s/h knowledge)

The Wall and Whites were all open and good as ever.

Seems to have gone a bit flat there recently, which is sad. Arguments over licences for the Cafe, trail closures…

Still had a bloody fun weekend though 🙂

I struggled to find a setup that worked on my 456 with a deore octalink setup that had worked perfectly on previous bikes

chucked on a new slx triple – solved problem

Some people just favour the feel of hydros – me for instance

and whats wrong with having a play and a bit of ‘invention’

You could reshape/use an alternative lever blade to get the lever where it is required if the angle of the body throws it out at a weird angle

Seat too high, get a bike that fits you

Nonsense, if the post goes high enough to pedal properly its fine 🙂

Pikes are good forks, nice and reliable

Fair enough :-)- i assumed it was the same as older 7/8/9 stuff when, even if it wasn’t 100% it worked pretty muich perfectly anyway 🙂

Because softness doesnt have much to do with strength in this application

Alu steeres are softer but MUCH thicker to maintain adequate strength
