Had my invite today for a swine flu jab

Not decided yet, seems to have been rushed in with undue haste. Not over trusting of our health service or government when it comes to something like this.

Tijuana. Are you a Welfare Rights Officer for the Taliban?

No, just a realist, not many jobs are very fulfilling and I see too many people working mental hours and losing out on life

Life is just a one off show, no dress rehearsal, so make the most of it

Gave up the pursuit of fame and fortune many years ago, small house, ten year old motor, but loved every minute watching my nipper grow up
My missus felt the same, packed up work to see the kid through childhood and never regretted a minute of it

I'm fifty one at the end of the month, but can now retire at 60 or before with no mortgage and the chance health permitting to have some more good times
Careers and so called success ain't everything if life is crap and you are unhappy

Hope the OP gets what he wants without missing out too much on the good stuff
So Tom, I don't think that commute is a great idea and if you do move down to Cambridge come and have a pint.
Nice place to raise a family, sorry I was a bit harsh sounding, but not always best to just sympathise

    Have a good weekend all

Work to live, not the other way round. Most money for the shortest hours and enjoy your leisure time.
If you have kids spend time with them when they are little rather than moan you never saw them grow up

From what you say sounds like their are a good few people in your line of work with nothing, so pull your socks up before you join them

Hear too much about careers and i'm an unemployed whatever, when you are unemployed you are just that, on the dole.

Have to go on 60mg a day every now and then to break up my Cluster Headaches

Usually gives me extra energy and don't sleep as much, tend to work hard and do a fair bit of exercise, haven't noticed any problems
Most of the side effects I get are of the mental kind, feel very agitated and angry, also get a few night terrors too

Should come off them gradually, do feel a bit weird because I just stop after five days. Just be careful being in contact with anyone who is poorly especially chickenpox.

    Hi curly

Sorry not going to Thetford, age and injury has curtailed my riding rather a lot
I'm in St Ives, saw you were going up to Rutland, easy to drop in off the A14 if you wanted them

    (sorry for thread hijack)

I'm in Cambridgeshire if anyone wants to pick them up.

Sorry, but too much hassle to post what with the packing and lugging them up the post office
Lot easier to just bung them in my recycle bin over a couple of weeks

Got issues 1-51, subscriber copies for anyone interested, little donation for the local kids hospice (EACH) would be great if anyone does want them

I have issues 1-51 to get shot of, tried my luck for twenty quid on the classifieds, but alas no takers

Can't be poncing about so off to the tip it is

Worn my Seiko automatic every day for the last thirty years (apart from a service every five years or so)
Can still pick up a nice Seiko sports auto for about 150 quid, if its as good as mine no point spending any more

1 Why not, if you have a funny sexy lady who you enjoy being with, tell her

2 How about face to face, get the feeling many of you are scared of the ladies, they really are rather nice if you find the right one.

Give the above a go and you might actually enjoy it, there really are some lovely woman out there

Reckon Mr Poddy's choice of a Sigma 17-70mm would be fine especially on a crop sensor, multiply focal length by 1.6 on a Canon.
Only f/2.8 at the wide end though, but still gives nice image quality, very pleased with mine

Another choice might be something like a Sigma 18-125mm with stabiliser might be a good range for you, but no idea what people think of it

One thing to remember is that the D40 has no in body AF motor, so all lenses need their own.

Kiss, their first gig at the Hammersmith Odeon, appalling and thank god for the support band which was Stray

Couldn't use half the special effects due to contravening the fire regs and the sound was crap too, just didn't work at all

Fair enough, don't remember getting anything when we made financial sacrifices to have one parent stay at home to look after our own child

AC/DC were very good at the Marquee, reckon about 78 ish, another memorable gig was Ted Nugent at the Hammersmith Odeon same sort of p[eriod

But my favourite was the Scorpions at Reading as a late stand in for Thin Lizzy, they really rocked

Personally thought Neon Nights was the best Sabbath album especially the track Heaven and Hell

Surprised no one has mentioned Wishbone Ash with Argus, my second choice after Rainbow

Been very lucky to see most of my favourite bands in their prime, but missed out on Springsteen at Wembley around the mid 80's
Had a ticket, but did my leg in and couldn't make it.

The other one would be Free, just missed them and had to put up with Bad Co
(only joking, they were rather good)

    Rainbow's "Rising"

Nothing else rivals it for the way five musicians are all at their peak producing an album of pure brilliance

Still sounds as good today as it did when it was released, from the opening note of Tarot Woman to the last note of Light In The Black

My kid finally went for an Optometry degree, she had been thinking about that for a while and although her main subject is maths, she thought that it was a wiser choice for future employment

As I said she had been thinking about it for a while, so she obviously found it interesting (and still is)
Not everyone wants high powered pressured jobs and some just want a steady living in a nice location with some leisure time.

whereas a degree in optometrics is going to qualify you for a few variations on basically one job

    or

a degree isn't just training for a single job

Slight contradiction there methinks although I left school with five o levels and did an apprenticeship so perhaps I'm not sufficiently educated to comment on such topics

    TijuanaTaxi

Well said Stoner and totally agree with everything you mentioned

My daughter is in her first year of University and the choice of subjects was bewildering and also the relative lack of academic success that was needed to enrol for many of them

How many Egyptologists can they want, I just see this further education as a way of keeping the jobless totals down and boosting the income to the many university towns and cities
Just a shame nobody has considered the youngsters in all of this

My kid finally went for an Optometry degree, she had been thinking about that for a while and although her main subject is maths, she thought that it was a wiser choice for future employment

Even that is over populated with grduates in places like London, but many small towns are short of Optometrists, so hopefully all will be well.

Sorry to hear the OP has problems, but maybe try and start your own photo business in your spare time, daresay that is over subscribed too though.
How about camera servicing, good many dirty sensors out there and the big companies turnaround times are dreadful

    Canon Pixma 4700

Quick and nice prints, ink seems to last a while too

I have the 4600 which is great and apparently the 4700 is better, right result for about 90 quid
Or maybe the 4600 at an even cheaper price

Steroids make me very angry, almost psychotic and wake up in the middle of the night with real terrors
Horrible things and unfortunately I have to take large doses (12 x 5mg Predisolene a day) to break up periods of Cluster Headache

Only take them for five days at a time and would hate to be on them full time

You have my sympathies, but just remember its only the meds making you worse than usual and you will feel better
Some poor sods are depressed all the time which must be awful

Hope France beat Ireland later today

Get fed up with all the commentators going on about Eire as though they were a British team
Just another foreign side same as all the rest to me and the French play much more attractive footie

Well done NZ, we had a Kiwi international (Chris Zorovich) play for us a few years ago and he was a great bloke
