Hope it all gets sorted out soon with a satisfactory conclusion for you

Nothing is 100% safe, but a bit of research before you commit is always a good idea
I would never buy online from a new member here who had just started using the classifieds, same on any site really

Talk Photography is pretty good with its trader ratings and gives you a good idea about a persons trustworthiness

Maybe its time for something like that on all sites, something that has been mentioned here before and obviously needs doing where you bought from

Just out of interest being a Canon user myself, which site was it exactly?

If anyone knows of companies / recruiters looking for geologist / geotechnical engineers i've got nothing to lose. Well save for limbs etc

It was the etc that the captured Russians tended to lose and that ain't worth no amount of cash thanks

Have a read up on what the Taliban did to captured Russians when they were there
Multiply that 100k figure by ten and you wouldn't get me out there

Better off blagging a bank here and doing a bit of time if you are that desperate for the cash

    Split the difference at £2.75

Three quid a pint is still a bit hard to swallow for a lot of people especially those up north

Oh yes I too had many doubts and like you carried on using cheques well into the digital age, still won't bank online though

Only joined Paypal when I had to for using Ebay, but haven't had any problems with security thus far

They do have a limit on sending/receiving cash (money laundering protection)and ended up having to verify my account, this entailed giving credit card and bank account details

Have now gone back to only accepting bank transfers for anything I sell on here and other classifieds for more than about a tenner.
Too many tales of payment reversals and other jiggery pokery with Paypal although I do use it for buying with if the seller wants to

If has ripped you off which I sincerely hope he hasn't might be a nice idea to join up to the various well known photo sites that have classifieds and make people aware of him

As I said earlier, I sold something recently and took a while for the money to appear, showed it leaving the buyers account almost immediately.

Also my wife has a Nationwide account and if she writes me a cheque it has taken an age to show up
Paid in with other bank cheques which clear a lot quicker than the building society one

No excuse for the lack of contact though unless he is having a problem, but a text doesn't exactly take long to send

Had a mate many years ago who became a mercenary, great money, but being banged up in an Angolan nick for three years was pretty grim I suspect

Doesn't sound like the usual scammer, does he post regularly on that site especially away from the classifieds

Must admit I do tend to use the talk photography classifieds because of the feedback system mentioned earlier.

Sold a camera recently and the transfer took a few days, kept in contact with the buyer, he mentioned not being worried because of my good feedback history

Hope this all works out ok, think it might and could just be the chap has had something happen his end

Sold an old Barbour jacket for not much, but went to do the zip up to pack it and the bloody thing broke a tooth off

Those brass zips are bombproof as a rule and felt very guilty saying sorry can't sell it like that. A new zip would have cost more than the chap paid for the coat.

We got M&S car insurance which included RAC cover for a very reasonable total price

Alternatively just buy a Honda, all those wasted years of breakdown cover 🙂

anyone know any issues with retrofitting a new worktop to an existing kitchen?

None at all, just make sure you have a good jigsaw with decent blades

    TijuanaTaxi

Me and the missus did the kitchen in our old house and this one too.
Plan it out on squared paper to scale and away you go.

Only the usual diy stuff like electrics and plumbing, bit of tiling and save a fortune

Had enough of crap workmen in my houses over the years and far more satisfying doing it yourself. Did all the new UPVC windows too, very simple and surprisingly cheap when ordered direct, yet again measure up properly

Buy decent tools though, makes a world of difference and once bought should last for years

I'm hoping Canon ditch the 50D and bring out something else to compete with Nikon in that price band

Would be good, can't see them using anything other than the sensor from the 7D if they bring out a 60D though

All I want is a camera, no video and around the 12-14mp mark, few more focus points might be handy too. My 40D has got nearly 70K clicks and can't go on forever

    TijuanaTaxi

Only Canon I'd avoid is the 50d – too many mega pixels crammed into the sensor creating too much noise – hence grainy pics)

Did wonder about that myself, but the 500D has the same pixel count and the 7D/550D has 18mp, both of those cameras get great reviews.
Surely Canon know better than to keep on increasing the pixel count and make cameras with poor image quality.

Admittedly I have a 40D with far fewer pixels, but had a 500D as a standby and never noticed a problem unless I went silly with the ISO

Not sure about any of this and would need convincing, I do know the 50D was much improved by turning off the noise reduction feature along with the highlights optimiser too

Not so much in London itself, much worse in the provincial towns

When I lived in London we just went out for a few/fair few pints most nights and not this big lets go mad on Friday lark

Few of us had a weekend away in York for the footie and couldn't believe how people came in from all over and then got pissed so quick

Me sort of, but my daughter is the big fan

Every album including the Rarieties ones including the Restless Native soundtrack

Only weird bit is why Stuart Adamson disliked their music being likened to Bagpipes when they deliberately went for that sound

but it won't fit inside the camera…

Delkin's new SD-CF adapter is SDHC compatible and can be fully inserted into any device that takes CompactFlash cards

    Oh yes it does…

Thinking of applying to the council to offer removing all the unused D Locks and chains from around the city
Fortune in scrap to be made for the price of some bolt croppers or cutting discs

Have a look up the station too for a whole plethora of dead bikes

You do see some interesting older bikes, there is a nice Kona Explosif circa 1994 left out in all weathers

What ever you do make sure the camera uses SD cards and not CF ones as the microscopic pins in the camera's card reader bend at the least provocation

Had cameras with both types and yet to have a mishap with a CF card

Very hard to force one in the wrong way round, suppose crap quality cards could be a problem though
You can always get a CF to SD adapter, Delkin make a good one and write speeds are the same as you would expect from a SD card (not as fast as a CF usually)

Whats wrong with a 5D and L lenses?
Probably me being thick, but thought the full frame would have suited the L Lenses perfectly.

To get wide angle on a 7D you will need something like a 10-22 and they don't come in the L range, wouldn't think a 16-35 would be wide enough given the crop factor

I use the 17-55 IS and that certainly isn't crap even without the L designation, in fact found it better than the 17-40L especially given its f/2.8 with IS

Slightly overkill and not strictly accurate, think the 454 Casull generated a bit more muzzle energy
Cylinder only took five rounds because the walls needed to be thicker

Now that really would get rid of the darned rat

Years ago before the gun ban got one of these bleeders with a S&W 357 Magnum
(massive bollocking from the range officer too)

Didn't know they exploded into that many bits

Not a good idea these days and probably worth about a ten year stretch

My dad was a coach driver and as a kid used to go on trips with him in the summer
Can remember the mods and rockers having a punch up in some of the seaside towns

Bit scary at the time for me as a nipper, but thinking back wasn't actually much and very similar to the footie hoolies of the 70's and 80's

Do wonder why all these so called fashions make the wearers look such prats. What about Teds and Skins, not a pretty sight, then we have new romantics and goths, less than pleasant.

I have had no problem with XTR hubs although I do look after them properly, current ones are about ten years old

One plus point is they don't make that infernal clicking noise that a certain brand does

Maybe check out the pentax K-x, really good deal on these now especially the twin lens kit, great little camera too

As mentioned above by Bez you could also use a whole range of older s/hand lenses and see how it goes

They really are crashtastic, bounce up and down like riding a spacehopper and actually quite dangerous for an amateur like me

Made my Orange Clockwork feel like it was on rails and if you remember how noodly they were it gives you an idea about the Softride
