I teach in a High School – every January the Headteacher asks if anyone is intending to retire/resign/change working hours between now and the new session in August.

This is done to allow staffing needs to be addressed. There can be no obligation to actually leave, even if you state you intend to, until you formally do so.

Maybe the person in this case is simply trying to helpful and alert management to forthcoming situation.

Personally – I would never reveal my intentions – circumstances change sometimes!

I think we all know classroom teachers do not make decisions on when a school closes – Headteachers in cooperation with local authority do that.

If your house has a value of X and the extension costs Y – I am suggesting the value of the finished property will be less than X + Y.

What you paid for the house doesn’t affect this theory but does influence whether you feel spending money on an extension is money well spent.

I am hypothesizing – you have the figures so I suppose I should shut up now! 😉

I don’t think it will add enough value to your property to cover the costs but it will make your house a better place to live.

If you’re planning on staying around then it is worth it IMHO.

There is probably lots you can do yourself – it’s not all difficult – lots of labour costs doing donkey work.

You could make the frame on the floor and lift it into position. This makes nailing and fitting easier. Just make the frame 20mm smaller than the ceiling height and pack it to fit.

I would also get the door and make the door frame before the partition.

Think about the centres for the plasterboard – make sure the joining stud is plumb.
