    Enjoy your new bike.

I rode this and the STriple back to back and plumped for the XSR.
The ergonomics suit me better and I like that there’s more engine braking.
Initially I thought it was a bit tall, but used to it now.

    I have the anniversary version,
    XSR900 at Loch Maree

My R&G tailtidy is a bit too short on wet days.
I recently added the small Yammie midge screen, but prefer the clean air you get without it.
I put Oury grips on it as the bar feels a bit buzzy at times.
I still run the stock exhaust and shocks as I think they work fine for road.

    Oooh… Thanks for that.

I couldn’t find replacement pawls, but found your post when I was searching.

I went from an E2 to a G5. Everything copied over in the setup app. Apps, photos, music, contacts, etc.
G5s operation is a lot slicker and has a better camera.
I miss the gorilla glass though, as I’ve put a couple of small scratches on the screen, Should’ve put a protector on it.
I Put a polyurethane cover on the back as it doesn’t have the inbuilt grip of the E2.

I fitted a hubdoctor kit because I had worn bushes. The symptom was side to side play at the cassette. It removed that play, and has been working well for a couple of years now. I’m fairly sure it was a ceramic bearings, and the bush is replaced with a bearing.

I have been using a Samsung one for years. Great for the stuff you mention. Boots up in seconds, even years later. Runs silently. Just don’t expect it to do heavy stuff like photo or video editing.

Get a referral from your Doc to the local NHS podiatrist.
They can do minor works on it in their clinic, like removing the side part of the nail bed, so that can’t happen.

I thought – why polarise? …creating groups with extreme characteristics.

Then I noticed the OPs forum name. :-)

I have the SV650N (Nekkid ’05 version with fuel injection) which has a riser bar, so makes it comfier. Comfort kits are available to raise the bar on the S model. I don’t find it too vibey, but then I like that feedback, as it makes me feel more involved :-) Exhaust can will need changing too. :-)

It is a budget bike. I made the following changes and now it works really well.
Fitted an aftermarket rear shock. The original is underdamped for those over about 11-12st, so wallows in the corners, unless you wind up the preload until it isn’t really working.
Fork is a bit lightly sprung too, so dives when under heavy braking, but I mainly use the V twin’s engine braking so it doesn’t bother me much. Although, I have cheap (£40ish)emulators waiting to go into the fork.
I adjusted the TPS sensor, it may need adjusting to make the bike behave well at low speed/revs (only a 15min job).
    Fitted decent tyres.

Its good for commuting because its narrow, light and the Vtwin’s low/mid range torque delivery makes it nippy and easy to control… and its good fun in the twisties. :-)
Post 07 versions are more economical, as they had to comply with raised emissions regs… twin spark, o2 sensor and better fuel mapping added.
The forum at SV650.org is great too.

I got into the way of using Pedros Syn lube.
Keeps the chain noticeably cleaner and lasts well.
Lately, I’ve been using Muck-off motorbike chain lube, just because it’s easier to find in my garage, and it lasts longer.

    Raspberry creams.
Used to be beside the custard creams and bourbons. Haven’t seen them in years. :-(

Trash the trails on or near the site, so Joe Public has no desire to go there while the harvesting is carried out.
Just my theory, after seeing it going on in Highland region too.

You are not the only one. I find the first couple of corners on the motorbike interesting after having been out on the MTB. :-)

I’d rather do something else if I was in the area.

Not quite sure if your issue is the same as mine. The PTFE bushing, shown in the post above, had worn so there was a lot of angular play. I fitted a hubdoctor kit. It made the hub feel better than it was when it was new. The metal hub body is re-used so needs to be intact.

Thanks for that Scotroutes. I thought they were caused by freezing, but someone “corrected” me and told me it was wind that carved them.

Vader, I went in to recce it from the south, up past Fannich Lodge. The climb up the west side of Sgur Mor is with the bike on the shoulder. The descent from the top of Sgurr Mor to the lodge is fantastic. The wind formed tiers from the summit are quite unique.

Good on ya for making the effort to make folks aware of this Keli1. Those steep sided glens with spate rivers can be challenging. I’ve gone through some highland tributaries that were ankle deep and 20 minutes later, on the way back, were raging at over a metre deep and uncrossable.

I was in a similar situation last year. Did the tests over the winter, bought an SV650. Went with a local trainer with a good rep and at times I thought I should’ve got a 125 so I could get more practice between lessons. He said that would be worse because its harder to correct the bad habits I would pick up. Now I’ve had all spring/summer learning to ride proper and really enjoying it, although in North Scotland I’m blessed with very quiet roads in comparison though.

    For me:
    – Developing technical skills to be able to clean trail features.
I get a bigger buzz from cleaning a particularly techy section than being first to the top of a fireroad. I dont “need” to be first to the top, happy if I’m not always last
    – Socialising with people with similar motivation
    – I continue to be amazed at the repeated pummeling a mountainbike can take.
    – Its an aid to physical and mental fitness

    Getting deja vu now.
I heard you could get pills for deja vu, but the company making them went bust coz people thought they’d already taken them.

Recently got the 42″ version of that LG. It replaced a 37″ Philips and came in at the same size as the frame is much thinner. Picture is really impressive and can self calibrated and has a variety of modes. Seems to upscale poorer signals too. Has plenty of connections. I’d recommend it.

I now prefer the 22-36-bash and SLX shifter for double.
    Clears big knobbly tyres better.
