and so it begins… I had a spider a couple of years back and it was truly aweful, but have heard some good things about them recently?! or am I wrong?

Yep, really easy, done it for my wife's dual air revs, you need the spacer though, did your forks come with it? if not drop me an email, I think I have a spare somewhere.

I've got one that I don't use anymore if you're interested? only the actual lever and the inner though as the outer got bent. It's been used so have got some scratches, but works perfectly. drop me an email if you're interested. or if you want a cheaper option I've got a brand new non-adjust one instead?

What about a rock lobster from merlin? that’s an 853 frame, and comparable spec to the altitude.

I’ve gone for stan’s flow rims on pro2s, £255 the pair, including spare spokes and 20mm conversion for the front, pretty good value I thought.

in my experience no, made the mistake of buying some in need of a service to find out that they were scrap. The one’s i bought came stock on a marin I think.

oh, and I’m not the most skilled or delicate rider either, which is why I ruled out 24spoke designs

how about the proII wheelsets for ease of maintenance and spares etc? and a whole load cheaper! I’ve got the proIIs on flows and am very happy with them, build quality is good and very wide for the weight.
I’d say that you’d find the 355 pro3s flexy as they have less spokes(I haven’t tried them, but common sense would suggest this), this will also reduce the life of the wheels.

yep, agree, the 1.9 only came out more recently though I think, the older diesels are a 2.2 which isn’t so great I don’t think, well worth reading saabscene for some of the issues. Great cars overall though, and lots of toys!

just had a look at the figures, the 2.0t wont give many (1) more mpg, but i guess there’s less temptation to floor it!

got an aero, awesome bike moving car, can easily fit 3 people and 3 bike inside the car, leaving the back wheels on. aero isn’t great on fuel, but 33 on a run, and pretty quick for an estate. there are some issues with clogged oil takeups in the sump, so check that the PCV upgrade has been done, best to look for a car with full service history and regular (<12k) oil changes. saabscene is a great forum for advice and tips

Personally I’ go for the hoops but with stans rims, the 355’s for XC would be my choice, or the 717’s, I’ve found the 4.2d’s are hard to fit tyres to and a bit weak.

ONzadog, where’s the video? I’ve got the tape and valves on their way for my flows, so for once I’d like to do a proper job!

Thanks coffeeking, sounds like I need to take a day off and take it to my local specialist for a once over. Cheers

thanks for your reply coffeeking, the saab engines have timing chains, and the last service picked up that they were rattling a bit, so thought that it might be worth getting them done if the engine has to be dropped out for the oil leak. The leak is on the head gasket. Now I know that’s not a good thing, but can I change that gasket with the engine in the car, or does it mean a rebuild?

funny you should say that, lovefilm sent through back to the future a couple of days ago, and the wife and I watched it last night, she’d never seen it before!? I’m not sure she enjoyed it that much to be honest, but I guess it was educational on the issues of time travel…

sv – not too be a tad old fashioned and all, but does two wrongs make a right??? you’re hacked off at them for doing wrong, so why should you go out and do the same?! sorry but that smacks of hypocrisy to me! just cos you can get away with it doesn’t mean that you should, and that’s exactly the same point of view that is being expressed towards the current MP expense issue! only difference being that you would be breaking the law, and as it stands currently they aren’t!

don’t mean to be a spoil sport, but it is designed to provide a way to buy a commuter bike, and technically if you don’t ride the bike to work (wording is that it is the majority of the use) you are commiting tax evasion. Whilst I realise that many people don’t use the scheme for this, if you ask you’re lbs to do soemthing special for you you are asking them to run the risk of getting done by the taxman, or getting kicked off the scheme and losing business. Sorry if I seem a bit arsey, just sounds like your trying to take the piss a bit.

My wife’s 5’5″, but longer of leg, so I’m a tad concerned over the reach, she’s stood over a 16″ and the standover is fine, but reach was a bit long. trouble with orange is that they offer so many colours, she’ll never manage to decide!

it’s not a mastiff as that’s a 6 wheeler, though there is a 4 wheel version, called a cougar in the states, so might be that, but I think it’s a bit shorter than that vehicle.

mybike, is your wife’s bike a long or a short, and how tall is she if she doesn’t mind me asking? my wife’s looking at a 5 and cant decide what size she needs and we haven’t managed to track down a demo yet.

I think it’s just a different lock-out lever, more substantial, and durable.

same here, pro IIs on 23s on my enduro, taken a battering at the wall and skyline, still true, and built by me! Yay!

how much do you reckon you’d sell the remedy frame for, you’ve got me thinking now?!

    Tiboy

The problem you’re going to face is the increase in weight for a burlier bike. I’ve got an 06 enduro, which is very much over burly for what I do, but it has served me well when I’ve picked some downright awful lines! However I’m now in the opposite position to you, wondering if I could get away with something lighter!? Sorry, not much help, but understand your struggle?!

Typical, I’m intrigued now though!? does it have a seperate spider and disc?

Ah, would have loved to help, but being in Bristol you’re a bit far for me with work as it is. Might be worth ringing hope to ask for the hub dimensions to put into the DT calc manually :D
